It makes life extremely difficult as the agencies have been taking me to my appointments for 10 years and now they have stopped doing it. I don't have a car and need a way to get to my appointments. I live on disability which is not extremely generous so too much, so too much is going to have to come out of my own pocket and I just don't have it.

She basically told my mother she was on too much medication, she just left the hospice 2 days before and the doctors had given her the medications. She also turned my mom's oxygen UP when she was doing very well at a lower setting. Her doctors said to SPECIFICALLY NOT to turn it up unless she required it as that makes her lungs more dependent on the machine. Her first visit she also advised she had 5 more patients and didn't have time for question. Please avoid this woman. No bedside manner or empathy and this was with a houseful of people. She didn't even try to hide her contempt. It was on display for my whole family. She appeared to be pushing my mom toward death. Not helping her. A new nurse has been requested.

Want to learn to play poker, Mac Jongg, or one of the newer games like Catan or Azul? OLLI's the place. Need some exercise? Take yoga, Tai Chi, or water aerobics. For a faster pace, try line dancing. Interested in art? How about a class in drawing, printmaking, or bookmaking? You can create your own piñata! If writing is your thing, OLLI's offers classes in nonfiction reading and writing, memoir writing, monologue writing, and creative writing. Prefer music? Take a class in ukulele or guitar! And if that's not enough, attend one of their free workshops on a variety of health topics and life planning. Visit with Government officials or the local fish hatchery. Discover meditation and delve into Buddhist philosophy. I've been attending since I moved here to Galveston and love the variety of classes, the interesting people I've met, and the informative instructors that teach the classes. The curriculum changes somewhat from semester to semester, but I've always found several fun and interesting classes to attend. In fact, I usually have to force myself not to sign up for too many! The cost of most classes is $35. Some are more because of supplies and others are free. The classes run about 8 weeks and last about 2 hours each. Membership to OLLI is only $20 a year. If I could give The Meridian zero stars, I would…read more My 85-year-old mother has been displaced from The Meridian for over a year after residents were forced to move out because of flooding caused by broken pipes in the building. She has been living at the Inn at the Waterpark ever since, while still paying thousands of dollars per month. The hotel conditions are unacceptable for anyone, especially elderly residents. Her room has a constant musty, mildew smell, and she has had an ongoing roach infestation. She recently had to ask to bring her roach spray because the bugs had become so bad. What is even more frustrating is the complete lack of transparency and accountability. For the last six months, we've been told the renovations are "almost finished" and that residents will be able to move back soon. Every month, the move-in date gets pushed back again with another excuse. After more than a year, it's hard to understand why repairs and renovations have taken this long with so little visible progress. These are seniors who trusted The Meridian to provide a safe, comfortable place to live. Instead, they've spent more than a year living in temporary accommodations while continuing to pay thousands of dollars each month, with no reliable answers and no end in sight. The Meridian has completely let her and our family down by the way this entire situation has been handled. The prolonged delays, poor communication, and unacceptable living conditions have made an already difficult situation far worse. I would strongly caution anyone considering The Meridian to think carefully before entrusting them with the care and housing of a loved one.

It's not that they didn't try, but it is not in their wheelhouse. I have since moved my husband to the Richard A Anderson Veterans Home in Pearland. This is a true Memory Care facility and one that will specifically tend to those needs. If your loved ones need rehab or short term care, I recommend Meridian. If they need specialized long term care, I would look elsewhere. The key is to visit often no matter where you go.
