It's taken me months to write this review. How can I possibly put into words the gratitude I feel…read morefor Apex recovery? However, in this season of Thanksgiving, I find it's the perfect time to share my family's experience.  With the help and support of Apex, my husband once again has control of his life and his health, my children have their father, and I have my best friend. They literally saved his life from the grasp of his alcohol addiction. When the best Kaiser could offer was a mental health facility for my husband to detox {try to imagine a strip search, outside privileges offered only 2X a day for 30 minutes- and that's in a cloud of cigarette smoke-and people pacing the hallways screaming obscenities at all hours of the night} he was begging to come home after just 6 hours in. That is absolutely NO way for anyone truly seeking help to get it.  I realized pretty quickly that because our Healthcare system is so broken, we would have to find an alternative for my husband to actually begin to heal. Enter Aily Nguyen and the Apex team.  Honestly, Aily is an earth angel and was the balm that my sad, helpless, confused soul needed to get me through one of the most difficult trials of my life.  Her team literally rescued him from the "hospital" where he was and brought him to the beautiful sanctuary that is Apex. There he would find a private home with a pool, a chef that came daily with fresh gourmet meals, yoga, meditation and multiple therapy sessions each day.  Here, in this safe haven, is where my husband could recover, work, heal and ultimately be reborn. 11/27 marks 4 months since our journey began.  I'm happy to report that my husband remains committed to his sobriety, after 5 weeks of inpatient care and 10 weeks of IOP (intensive outpatient program). He has forgiven himself, and has been gifted the knowledge, the tools and the self awareness to stay the course.  Apex was instrumental in getting him to this point, and our family is eternally grateful for the entire organization.  If you are looking for help with your addiction, Apex will rise above and beyond all expectations.  If you want to be treated like a whole human being that deserves special care and attention throughout your recovery, look no further. If you'd like to have a place that still calls and texts just to check in months after you leave.... try Apex. Thank you, Apex. We have our husband, father, son, brother, uncle and best friend back and we recognize the pivotal role you've played in his road to recovery.

When addiction grabbed ahold of me I felt no incentive to break free. I didn't want to trust myself. I needed day by day proof that I could exist and face the challenges of life as my authentic self. Bayview made time go by and put me into a world where I could be around people on the same journey and immersed in the teachings of recovery. The places the staff take you in the van (outings, group sessions at the center, AA meetings) and camaraderie that comes with all of that made the experience memorable. I lived in a house in Clairemont that allowed me to slowly transition back into the real world until I was ready to give myself full autonomy. I'm still clean to this day and feeling stronger than ever thanks to this program.

The team there was all hands on deck and welcomed me with open arms. Once I got to meet the infamous Max (owner) I knew I was in good hands. He is the most generous and kind soul I have ever met and will be forever grateful. Lauren (therapist) did my introductory interview and made me feel like it was a safe place to be. I then started to open up more as I met others suffering with the same disease as me making it easier for me to fit in. Lauren was my therapist throughout this time and can't thank her enough for walking me through the swamp that was my past. She was the bright light in my darkest of moments and will always be thankful. Nine months later, I can truly say that I'm a changed man. I have a new outlook on life and now can handle tough things with grace and stability. I cannot express enough how Bayview has assisted me with overcoming struggles showing patience and compassion through any internal conflict that I had. I will forever owe Bayview for getting me to where I am today. I'm not out of the woods yet, but I know I can handle whatever is thrown my way because I wouldn't been able to say that before, thank you Bayview.

I just talked to someone who asked me Qs about it so I hope this might help some more people. Best of luck to you all. Going thru the Sharp Rehab Pain Management program was a total game changer for me because I was highly opposed to getting completely off pain meds myself. At the time that I began working with a pain specialist there I was taking between 6-8 Norco a day for a chronic back problem that was only getting worse with treatments. I worked with a pain specialist who -very gradually-helped taper me down to a lower dosage of medicine. The rate at which my dosage was tapered down is some thing I was able to negotiate with the doctor and she was very receptive to my opposition of getting off of the painkillers completely. I want to say I went down half a pill a month, so it is not something they sprung on me overnight.. I can distinctly recall that this was process still not easy for me, so they were intermittent appointments where I would ask the doctor to go back up on a higher dosage of Norco, to which she (mostly) obliged. I really was not the best patient and I fought with my pain specialist throughout much of my taper off painkillers namely because I didn't see hope without them & I really had no faith that other things would work at all for me, let alone work better than what I was doing. I was not a huge fan that one other thing I was encouraged to try was switching over from Norco to taking SUBOXEN. When I looked into Suboxen I wasn't able to find any information on how it can be used to treat pain. This medication made me feel super dizzy and loopy so I didn't last very long on it. My 2 go-to's to manage pain pretty much boil down to ICE PACKS & HEAT PACKS. I had to become way more aware of what my body was saying to me because I had the bad habit of ignoring my physical symptom's until they were really bad. A huge part of the Sharp program is educational so I say through a required class that talked about ways to manage our stress. This was a real eye-opener for me because it felt very validating because it covered how living with chronic pain is a real thing that Does require our time and attention, if we do want our pain (& quality of life) to improve. I really appreciated that the doctors that work in this program never downplayed the fact that I was in pain even while they were tapering down my medicine. My feelings and physical problems were not ignored or belittled, as one might imagine. In fact, I think that everyone I met with, and worked with, was very kind and understanding. I would never have made it through the program had it been designed any other way than that way... For me, a huge part of dealing with my chronic condition, was an underlying feeling of hopelessness and helplessness that was making me feel marginalized from society, and alienated from most other people, because it was something that I couldn't talk about without some fear of judgement or scrutiny from them. I do wish there would've been more support groups involving other chronic pain patients but -for whatever reason- that wasn't the case.
