My mom is on hospice and she goes there for a respite care which gives me a little bit of a break for five days. We've gone there a few times and staff and nurses are real nice. They have a nice space where you can have lunch outside of your room if you want to they have a nice little patio that the caretaker that I have going there too will take my mom out for a walk in a wheelchair I highly recommend this place if you are recovering from a surgery. Or if you have someone on Hospice that needs a place for respite care. read more

The place is light, very inviting & the best part are all the activities they work to provide - wonderful musicians, lectures and sessions that provide great info re physical therapy, balance, and even presentations for the appropriate holidays. Nursing staff take pains to support patients with memory issues, always responding with tact & redirection. Line staff are especially patient. Mom Had been to other facilities before, but this one is the best that I've seen so far. Any CA location is difficult with traffic, but the open spaces, daily access to outdoors, short trips to the beach, and mini concerts are a special touch. read more

If I would have known what kind of place this was, I would have never left my father here. I was not greeted upon arrival as my father arrived in the ambulance. I was just told to take him to his room and still in his hospital gown. This was like being at camp in an empty room. No details, they didn't shower him. I checked him in, exhausted and upon leaving I was feeling horrible. This AM my caretaker arrived and found him lifted in the air with a hoist and he was yelling help. She is like what are you doing he can walk. He was still in his gown, the food he said was horrible and I demanded to bring him home. This place is for people being near the end of life and have no family. This is not for someone coming out of the hospital. He is better off home. Good luck to you all. read more

Bayshire was recommended by the VA Social Services for Rehabilitation after knee replacement surgery. Met with them twice, toured the facilities. In the second meeting I relayed that the surgeon and primary doctors recommended that I not go there because of a higher risk possibility of infection associated with hospitals and rehab facilities. I told them that the surgery was being done on an outpatient basis and that the surgeon wanted me out that day or the next day. On the morning of the surgery I called to make sure that I had a room available and was told for the first time that Medicare would only start after three days of being in the hospital. I was appalled and said why was this not mentioned before, because this disqualified me from using their facilities. All I got was that the hospital knew that. I said what about me? Why did they fail to mention this in our conversations. The surgery was cancelled while we now look rebook the surgery and look for a suitable place to rehab. NOT GOOD for me or my knee. Not good for the scuttled surgery team. read more

My Father was transferred here to recover at the skilled nursing area after his stay at Scripps La Jolla Memorial Hospital. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly and kind, the rooms are decent. I felt he was safe there. I loved how they had a mural for Veterans in the hallway connecting to the elderly living at the facility. Can't say enough good things about this place. We chose it because of the high ratings and it did not disappoint. The staff was professional, kind, good at what they do, from admissions to nursing to PT. I am a former geriatric case manager and I've seen some awful SNFs, some mediocre SNFs, and now one excellent SNF. Most of them are paid the same rate by Medicare so why can't they all be good? I highly recommend Bayshire Torrey Pines! My aunt had to go to skilled nursing rehab after a hospital stay. We chose Bayshire Torrey Pines and I'm so glad we did! It's a beautiful, bright and clean facility. The staff were friendly and welcoming upon arrival and continued to be that way throughout her stay. The care team made my aunt feel valued and special while caring for her and were very attentive to her needs. Physical Therapy was amazing! They even took her outside to some raised garden beds to 'garden' as part of her therapy! Although the food has to be highly regulated, it tasted great! Yes I snuck some bites of Auntie's food! There was a full activity calendar of things to do including live music performances which helped make the time go by a little faster. No one WANTS to go to rehab but if you or someone you know needs it, Bayshire Torrey Pines is your place! read more

My husband was at Bayshire for several weeks. The food was atrocious and depending on the time of day (evening shift staff was not attentive to their patients) the service lacked. The Doctor for the rehab, assisted living and memory care was on site maybe two days a week and when staff texted him he would respond quickly but without seeing the patient. He seemed to be overwhelmed. My husband developed a UTI and was did not start treatment for 5 days after first reported and ultimately was one of the illnesses that contributed to his death. Are there rehabs in San Diego that anyone would recommend when we asked the hospital staff. No! I don't know why California does not monitor their rehabs or why insurance companies don't investigate these facilities. I visited three and called at least ten, this being one of the "better" facilities . I can't recommend any of them including Bayshire. read more

I would give this place a zero star if this was an option. Bayshire Torrey Pines I wish I had reasons to give this facility a better review because I found most of the staff to be friendly and caring. However, operationally speaking this place dropped the ball on several occasions that made me question whether this facility can effectively manage critical care for those in need. I don't write reviews but making an exception here because I want others to do their homework on this place before deciding to trust the care of their loved ones to this facility. I want to be clear that the staff are friendly, but operationally this place continually missed the mark, which reduced the quality of care needed for my father who was released from UCSD having broken his shoulder from a fall - my father of 85 had spent a week at UCSD and now needed skilled nursing and rehab before being strong and healthy enough to go back home. The following is a short summary of the issues my father experienced during his three week stay at Torrey Pines It took them three tries to get the initial paperwork completed. They had assigned a new employee to this task and she clearly didn't know how to go about doing what needed to be done. Inefficient and unprofessional. They failed to complete the intake inventory checklist prior to my leaving the facility. The inventory check list goes through all my father's possessions, including money and medications - I had to leave for an appointment. Without my presence, the person doing the inventory checklist counted my father's cash then walked out with it. After she returned my father asked where she took the cash and she claimed she did not take any cash. An amount under $100 was taken from my father's wallet and never returned despite my speaking with the head of nursing who suggested I complete a loss form, which I did. The money is not the issue here, broken trust is. Medication was not administered - they failed to inform us that medication is provided on an as needed basis contrary to the hospital where medication was administered on schedule. They failed to review insurance thresholds with us during his intake and further failed to notify us when insurance coverage ended. They initially claimed that it's their policy to review this information during the intake, which inferred that I was not telling the truth when I mentioned no such review was provided. Further, one would assume as professional courtesy that we would be notified when his insurance coverage was about to be complete. No such notice was provided and my father ran over his insurance coverage by one day - we were lucky to have asked when insurance coverage would end. Discovering that my father's insurance threshold had ended, combined with our experience with this facility, I advised the social services representative that I wish to have my father released and that she should complete the paperwork immediately. A few minutes passed and she came back to the room to advise that she had reviewed my father's case with the staff and that it seemed the insurance policy review was in fact not covered with me and that they were willing to keep my father for another week without charging their $204 daily fee. No thanks. After leaving the facility, the director (Eileen Ferguson) called me to ask about my reasons for removing my father and when I began to provide the reasons she continually cut me off to verbalize what a great facility they have, how professional they are, how much pride they have in their professionalism, blah blah blah. She was clearly more interested in hearing your own story versus listening to the reasons why I removed my father. She apologized for her staff not reviewing the insurance policies with me to which I responded that this seems to be an operational issue and asked if there is anything else. I am hoping that our experience with Bayshire is an anomaly. However, given the repeated issues we encountered starting from day one and throughout my father's two week stay I have to voice caution about this facility. Do your homework and stay close to the care provided for your loved ones in this facility. read more

I had a lot of trepidation when told I must go to a rehab hospital to begin recovering from a pelvic fracture. From my entry on a Sunday afternoon I found the staff concerned, competent and personable. I received basic care, PT, medication management efficiently and competently. More often than not, the button I pushed rendered assistance within a few minutes. Once it was an hour, but it was clear there was an emergency on the ward. A nice option: a lovely park I used daily right out the back door!! I heartily recommend BayShire Torrey Pines should you need rehab care. read more

The RNS Stephanie, Danielle, Donna, Patrick, Martina, Eliza,Neil were each attentive, courteous, professional and fun..their care was also excellent! Jasmine,PT, Christina,PT, OTs Amanda and Winston were persistent patient and understood what it takes from the patients perspective to improve- they each were contributes to my successful rehab. Steven,the PA always showed his interest in my succeeding, my conversations about my healing and never dismissed my comments as irrelevant. He is a big asset of Bayshire. Victor. Allana and Denassia, the kitchen staff were each ready to help with getting patients the right meal, coffee, and kept the dining room clean. They were a pleasure to know. Lastly Jason shared conversations early in the morning which made being up at 6:30 am and having coffee in the dining room a pleasure. I cannot forget Rhdorra, CNA, who was cheerful every morning , helped me shower and pushed me in a wheelchair when I couldn't do that myself. Each of these people helped me physically and emotionally successfully recover from an unfortunate incident. Bayshire is a very good rehab center because of its hardworking staff members. read more

My dad stayed at Bayshire Torrey Pines Assisted Care Facility for "restbit" care for a month and a half after having a stroke. The care provided to him was excellent. The staff, everyone from the administration to the nurses to the servers in the dining room, were amazing, always putting the residents first. I saw time and time again the kindness from the staff. This review is for Bayshire Torrey Pines' Skilled Nursing Facility. Highest rating. The staff is outstanding: competent, kind, and eager to help. My husband received excellent care as well as skillful therapy (both PT to strengthen his muscles and OT to make it possible for him to live at home), and he made great strides in his recovery. There were some minor glitches but none concerning things that really matter. The facility is clean, pleasant, well-organized, and even has a grass and shrub bordered walkway outside that accommodates wheelchairs. We feel immensely grateful to the superb staff who helped him in so many ways. read more
