I've worked with Kay Riley and sons for years for my personal residence. I was very pleasantly surprised when I needed flooring for my rental property and I really needed inexpensive flooring. After all those years of working with them, I didn't realize that they have great pricing for entry-level flooring. I got value pricing for my rental with all of the great service I always get for the higher price-point flooring in my home. read more

I had the worst possible experience with Kay Riley's Carpet and Flooring that anyone could imagine. Please do your homework before hiring this company and know the code standard regulations for the particular work you are doing. These guys are untrustworthy, unprofessional, and do shoddy work. Kay Riley's Carpet and Flooring was scheduled to do a tile job at my home on the 18th of December. I got a call on the morning that they were supposed to show up saying that they couldn't come until the 20th. The job included replacing the shower wall board, replacing the shower pan, shower door, and installing tile in the shower and the bathroom floor. Kay Riley's tile guy, Jose', came to my house on the 20th. He did not have a work order with him so he didn't know what he was there to do. I explained the job to him which he then translated to another worker that did not speak English. Jose' informed me that because he did not read the work order before coming to my house, he did not have the materials that he needed to perform the job. He asked if he could use some of the sheet rock that I had in my garage so that he could get started. I told him that he could use the sheet rock but I questioned if they were supposed to even use plain sheet rock for that job. Jose' assured me that it was fine. I had to leave for work but I sent a text to the contractor to question the appropriateness of using sheet rock for the shower walls, who then called a manager at Kay Riley's so that they would "make sure they are using the correct wall board". After returning home from work that day, I saw that they had installed regular sheet rock and applied a "water proof" coating over the top of it. It didn't seem right to me so I sent another message to the contractor and asked if it was appropriate to use regular sheet rock with a "water proof" coating over the top. He replied that it was fine. My son decided that he would take the following day off work so that he could do some research on tile installation code and make sure they were doing the job correctly. He discovered that it is a very poor choice to use regular sheet rock, but if you do use it, it needs to have 2 coats of water proof coating put on, the corners need to be covered with mesh "tape", and then a "Kerdi" layer needs to be put over the top of that. Kay Riley's tile guy only put one coat of water proof coating on the sheet rock, he did not mesh the corners, and only covered the bottom 12 inches of the wall with "Kerdi" paper. Then they started installing the tile over this. This method does not even meet basic code requirements. I fired them and was left with a big mess that I now need to tear out so that it can be done right. And . . . I have to add that my interaction with Gary Riley, owner of Kay Riley's, was equally terrible. He was quite defensive and kept trying to make excuses for Jose'. He lied to me saying that he had a photo showing that mesh had been installed on the corners of the sheet rock, but then slipped and said " but even if there isn't any mesh . . . " so I pointed out this contradiction to him which he brushed off. But when I removed a portion of the Kerdi layer off the shower wall that they did, it was clear that no mesh was ever installed on the corners. And when I tried to communicate this back to Gary in order to let him know this, he refused to answer my text. Do yourself a favor and avoid doing business with this company. read more

We had Kay Riley and Sons install carpet and laminate in our house. I was very impressed with their location (clean, modern, good layout), customer service, and pricing. The employees in the store let us take our time browsing the flooring and gave us good feedback. Both installers showed up on time and completed the job in a timely manner. They were clean cut and friendly and I didn't mind having either in my house. read more

We had some kind of difficult spots in the floor installation in our home. When it was finished there were some room transitions that just didn't look right (colors and width of materials). Gary came out and not only reworked the room transitions (they look so much better) but came up with an innovative way to make a strange sloping spot in the utility room floor look really professional. We appreciate their willingness to make sure we were happy with the result. read more

Like the person who didn't want to be negative, I feel the same way. But after 5 1/2 years of having my carpet, purchased and laid by Kay Riley, I am very disappointed at the poor quality of the carpet and the carpet already becoming loose in places. Other carpet in my home, not purchased or laid by them, still looks great and is not loose--after 20 years! I could not recommend them in good conscious. read more

After dealing with Kristen for 3 weeks, we still didn't get the right quote for our carpet. We asked 3 times to speak to the manager/owner, only to be told they were not in and then transferred back to the same person who then told us that it was our fault because we were not patient enough and understanding enough that they were busy. Well guess what, we found another company who was very professional, and able to accommodate our schedule, for about a thousand dollars less. Buyer beware! read more

I've been debating to write this review because I don't like to be negative but every time I look at my poorly stained wood floors my blood boils. I had Kay Riley & Sons sand and stain my wood floors. I paid $5800 and it's money down the drain. The best word to describe my floors is SLOPPY. They look terrible and I'm disgusted by the craftsmanship. The stain that they used was a "high grade" stain that I paid extra for. In some places the stain did not take well to the wood. I understand that stain does not always work the way you want it to with older wood, but I also had some new wood laid in my hallway and the opening to my kitchen and that wood also looks terrible. My floors have circular marks where you can see where they used a rag to apply the stain. There are also smudge marks. I had the president come and look at it (he was very kind) and he said there was basically nothing they could do because it may happen again. I have gone into a number of homes where they have had their floors re-stained and I do not see smudge marks, circular marks nor sloppy craftsmanship. The person who stained my floors came and took some moldings and re-stained those pieces because you could see parts of the old stain underneath. Whats frustrating is that he didn't bring back all the pieces and he no longer works for the company and will not return my phone calls so I have to have some new moldings made. What saddens me is that I had a great experience with my sales rep. She was fantastic. Even the president of the company was good to work with. I had them lay carpet in my home and I was very pleased, but after this experience with my wood floors (which were stained after my carpet was laid) I unfortunately will never go back to them. Every time I look at my floors its just a reminder of how much money was wasted and the poor craftsmanship. The ONLY good thing about this situation is that the person who stained my floors no longer works for the company which is good for Kay Riley. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is because they did a good job with my carpet. read more
