Please heed my warning (and those of the other most recent reviews!) and save yourself the time, money, effort, and stress - hire literally ANY other caterer for your event. After months of poor communication and several displays of unprofessionalism, I tried to cancel our contract 6 weeks prior to our wedding date. I was in a dispute with the owner (Gabe) to try and get a refund for an event he hadn't even catered, and he refused to provide it. Note that the owner himself has stated that he thinks his business is headed to an end. See attached photo for text messages I received from him with this claim. If anything, you don't want to work with someone who cannot maintain a professional demeanor in their client correspondence. In case you need further convincing to NOT hire Ring of Fire, feel free to read through my ordeal below. --- In February of this year, I reached out in search of a wedding caterer. Gabe invited me and my partner to a complimentary tasting with other couples who were interested in booking. The tasting went great (the ONLY thing that went well in all my interactions with them) so we booked and paid a 50% deposit. Over the next few months I reached out to get deadlines and feedback on our proposed menu. After repeated attempts to contact him, the only time he really reached out was to offer a discount on our balance if we paid it early. In hindsight, this should have been a *red flag* - no professional would ever reach out to a client to ask them to pay something in advance of the contract terms unless they were poorly managing their business and finances. Instead, thinking it was gesture of customer service, we went ahead and paid our balance early to get the discount. However, after paying, Gabe unprofessionally asked us to reschedule our already confirmed site tour in favor of booking another lunch. My wedding coordinator and I agreed to reschedule, only to have him NO SHOW for the site tour. 15 minutes after the confirmed meeting time I called Gabe to get his ETA. He didn't seem to know where our venue was (even though he accepted a calendar event with the date, time, and address in it) and told me was still 50 minutes away so we proceeded without him. Had we waited, he would have been OVER AN HOUR LATE. At this point, I lost faith that ROF could cater my event. We were still 6 weeks away from our date so I requested to cancel our contract and get back the balance payment (that HE requested we pay early). Needless to say, he did not want to grant the refund. I worked with an attorney and determined the best course of action was to file a dispute with the credit card company AND to sue him in small claims court as backup. Luckily, the credit card company resolved the dispute in my favor but I still experienced an extreme amount of stress trying to book a new caterer with less than 6 weeks from my wedding date - something I would never wish on any bride. Again, please save yourself the stress and look elsewhere for your caterer. read more

We hired Gabe & Ring of Fire in 2019 for our June 2020 wedding. We had come by to do a tasting and he had a huge spread ready for us and another couple. All of the food was delicious (and the artichoke dip is still my favorite thing ever). We were given the option to pay in full upfront so we did.  When Covid hit, Gabe was very understanding and accommodating about moving the date, which we did twice. We finally celebrated in June 2022, and unfortunately the team was dealing with some key staff out for Covid.  We were super happy with Gabe until pretty much the day of the wedding itself. He had previously said he was going to come by in the morning for setup but never showed up or answered our message asking if he was still coming. We were also supposed to have the big truck showcased on the property and they arrived with the smaller truck. Come to find out the big truck had been inoperable and they couldn't fix it that morning. When the staff started arriving, the first thing they tell me is how they're short staffed and needed to move their crew around, service might be slower, etc. This felt unprofessional especially since it all ended up being fine. We paid for 120 head count and only had about 90 ppl show up, so we told them to leave leftovers. I'm not sure what happened but we had zero leftovers, even though Gabe was saying we'd have a bunch. They also didn't serve coffee in the evening though we had paid for it. Overall we've gotten so much positive feedback on the food and bar, the crew was great, but the unprofessionalism in the final moments really left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm sure some of this had to do with the fact that we paid in 2019 and that doesn't feel fair given that it was an option he offered to us. read more

Avoid at ask cost. You are forewarned. Gabe over promises under produced and cowers away once any critical issue arises. The nice catering pics are over 3 years old. The only thing good is the tasting session. Once he gets your money the entire nice guy is nowhere to be found. Gabe and crew were amazing throughout the whole process and we could not have asked for better partners. When we came in for a tasting, ROF prepared a feast for us and entertained us with his stories being from Napa. The spread was wide and the food was stellar and we didn't bother to look further. Leading up to the wedding, ROF was patient and responsive, which is important when you don't have a wedding planner. I appreciate how flexible the crew was - I had to change the guest count numerous time as well as the menu, and ROF was always happy to accommodate. We wanted to pay homage to my Texas roots so we served family style barbecue on the wedding day. We also rented a firepit and corn hole set. Everything went perfect: people still rave about the food! We had the 12 hour smoked brisket and the smoked wings (husband's favorite food - we wanted the wedding to feel personal). The timing could not have been better; we had 6 speeches and the courses were delivered promptly on time after each of the speech. The night concluded with late night pizza which ROF boxed up for us to deliver to the after party. Gabe, you were incredible to work with. We owe a huge chunk of the success of our wedding to you. After a zoom meeting and emails in June with Gabe to try and get some retribution for his company's horrible service, he has NOT communicated in the last four months. I would not even give this business one star. I was a guest for a birthday celebration most recently and I was appalled and disappointed by the service. They were late in getting to my friends birthday celebration. Uncalled for.! The food was just okay but there was not enough for any seconds on appetizers. The staff seemed to not really know what was going on and did their best, alas the coup d'etat that the dessert was melted. Relatives of the birthday party ended up going to a local store to get dessert for the party because the catering staff was at a loss of what to do, to fix the problem, it was awful. So annoying to deal with. I work at this camp place in the mountains during the summer, and for the last weekend I was there we hosted a small music festival. It was several days long and ring of fire only catered 2 of the meals. Our 30 person camp staff had to cook and serve all of the food for 500 people. It was a MESS let me tell you. The ring of fire crew was late to bring the food so the food came out super late, their workers were so slow and barely did anything, and our camp staff had to work our asses off in order to get all this food out, because ring of fire was so disorganized and had horrible communication. I wasn't even scheduled to cook or serve the pizza meal we did, but I had to hop on as well as several other people because they needed so much help. I didn't work at the other meal they catered, but the kitchen was a hell scape and a lot of my coworkers were extremely stressed out for the 6 hours it took to cook and serve the food. And to make things worse the ring of fire dude Gabe was rude, short tempered and aggressive when talking to us, and easily got into tiffs with people and then preceded to claim "I'm just a guy, I'm not responsible for any of this", when he is literally the head chef/coordinator of the company. This other woman from ring of fire with a wide brim hat and a long flowy dress was INCREDIBLY annoying. She worked so slowly and barely did anything, and would go into the kitchen smiling at everyone while we were stressed out moving as fast as we can, and she would create more problems for people working. Like what are you doing lady???? I talked to so many people that said they wanted to scream at her. If we didn't have a contract with them we would have not even paid them at all and they are never coming back to cater anything where I work. They don't do any work. read more

We had our small wedding this past October with the wonderful Ring of Fire crew. Gabe & The Crew showed up on time, setup gorgeous string lights over the tables, and created a bar station that was super charming and easily accessible to the guests. We opted to have the truck at the event, and we are so thankful that we did! It was a show stopper for everyone as soon as they arrived. The fire stove on the truck was such an awesome feature to see, and is something our guests couldn't stop talking about. The food was beyond delicious. The pizza was some of the best pizza we've ever tasted, and don't even get me started on the stuffed mushrooms. My bridesmaid snuck me a couple before the ceremony and I was in shock over how tasty it was. They also made vegan options available, which I was super thankful for. I have never been so disappointed by a caterer/chef!! Gabe talks a big game, and acted like he and his team could do anything we wanted. Initially, I was only going to hire ROF for the pizza oven and awesome truck. But Gabe convinced me that they could do all the other food items I wanted as well. My vision was to have multiple food trucks for a street fair vibe in the vineyard for our employee harvest party. I wanted pizzas and apps, street tacos and gourmet hot dogs with truffle tater tots. Again, Gabe promised me his team could execute all of this and I was getting married (aka a bit distracted and thought it would be easier to deal with one vendor than 3 or 4), so I hired ROF for all three food stations. I explained my vision clearly, I wanted authentic Mexican street tacos. I wanted gourmet hot dogs (I even sent him the exact three I wanted with toppings and all). I wanted three different food stations. In addition to the food, I wanted to make sure that their food truck which has a definite "wow" factor, would actually fit up in our vineyard as we have a row of 100+ year old olive trees lining the drive to the Grove. Gabe came up twice and measured and assured me the truck would clear all the trees. Event day: while I was on my way to work, my boss (the owner) texted me a picture of an olive tree whose branch had been broken off by the truck. Gabe was driving the truck up very carelessly and my boss said he didn't seem too concerned about breaking the branch even though I'd expressed multiple times how priceless they were and my concern the truck would not fit. Gabe had a personal situation that he was unable to be at my event for. he assured me his team would execute. His team was late to arrive. Scrammbling to set up on time. And once food was served, I realized how off target the entire menu was. Not only were several items not served that were on my contract and paid for in advance, but the Mexican street tacos were store bought hard shell 'gringo' tacos with barely any meat in them, there was a chafing dish with dogs in it and buns on the side- that doesn't seem gourmet to me!! Not to mention none of the toppings I asked for were even provided. I was mortified about the product they put out for our hard working employees. I got a ton of negative feedback from everyone. When I shared this with Gabe, he got defensive. But asked how he could make it right. So, he said he would refund me. I was connected with Dom who does their Marketing from what I understand and we agreed upon a rate to be refunded. I continually had to follow up and finally Dom told me to work with Gabe directly. Gabe finally responded and said I would receive the refund by December 15th and we still have not received. Oh, and one more thing...when I added the tacos and hot dogs, they double charged me for the truck ($500) and gratuity on the pizza I had already paid for. If Yelp allowed half stars this would be a 3.5. It pains me to say so because Gabe and his team have some real talent, but three months after our wedding, my husband and I still feel that they have some major issues that they need to address. The PROs: - delicious flavors (ROF clearly knows good food) - tons of thought and investment in menu-planning prior to our wedding date Thera are a lot of positive things I can say. We approached ROF about collaborating with us to serve a custom menu of dishes that represented our cultural and culinary backgrounds (Filipino and Japanese), including a Filipino lechon (whole roasted pig). We were thrilled when they were game and they seemed as excited about it as we were. Gabe teamed up with a local chef, Eric Magnani, to help develop the flavors that we envisioned, which we really appreciated. Gabe told us that his team was double-booked the day of our wedding so likely he would be at the other event; we would have Eric at the helm w/ROF staff supporting him. After having two separate tastings prior to the wedding to see how the dishes were coming out (both were great), we were confident this would work. We had a tall order and we don't discount the amount of research and preparation that Eric did to execute our vision. The food that was served on our wedding day, when it worked, was truly delicious. For example, my Filipino father-in-law loved the Chicken Inasal so much he's asked us to recreate it for him and several guests told us it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding! The CONs: - bad/haphazard service day-of - poor communication at times - some dishes had issues Sadly, there were some things that we will never forget and can't ignore here. On our actual day, the service was bafflingly bad. We paid for family-style service (where a large helping of each dish is shared at the table). Simple enough. However we heard from many guests was that their table was not served many of the main dishes. We found out later that some servers may have dumped more than one of the same dish at other tables which might explain it. This meant some vegetarians only were served meat dishes and meatlovers very little meat. Other guests told us their table wound up bartering with the the next table just so they could try each other's food. (Cringe.) The best man/my brother-in-law's table was not served 2 of the 3 meat dishes nor any of accompanying sauces. We noticed this ourselves as we were making the rounds at the end of the meal and had to ask the staff to check with the kitchen on whether they could be served those special dishes - including the roast pig that he had been so excited for. Some even said they were left hungry. :( A simple way to avoid this would have been to have one server assigned per table or tables to ensure that each table got one of each dish. Why that was not done we will never know. Our planner also told us that the servers did not seem to have a manager in charge so even as she started to spot some of these major issues developing, they could not correct it. Food issues: - we had told them the Filipino whole roasted pig would take up to 6-8 hours. My husband saw them setting it up very late (~5 hours before service) and asked if they would have enough time to cook it, they said it would be fine. We later heard back from guests that parts of it seemed undercooked/raw. - the mushroom risotto was very undercooked (we love an al dente risotto, this was not that, it was hard rice) - the roasted veggies dish was presented very poorly, the veggies were totally broken up and looked bad (this should have been easy to avoid)* *Timing note: Unfortunately, due to things beyond our control, our wedding started an hour late, causing dinner to run behind too. We empathize with the challenge that might place on any kitchen, and would understand if the issues we saw were a result of that. However, the disorganized service and the undercooked pork seemingly have nothing to do with that (the veggies perhaps yes). Red flags: Prior to the wedding we some organizational issues, and the problems ROF had in execution on our wedding day seem related. Gabe was very busy with events and at times, our venue and/or planner could not reach him at all. He seemed really overcommitted and possibly overwhelmed. For example: ROF sent in the paperwork that the venue needed to review and approve WAY past the deadline, and this was after many requests. Gabe had some delays on his end, which he explained, but it added significant stress -- we had to pay both ROF and the venue in FULL before knowing if the venue would approve ROF as a caterer, which was nail-biting. It was finally sent about a week before the wedding. Our planner had other feedback about issues her team and the venue had working with ROF that day, but I won't cover it all here. I do really hope they can get these issues corrected as they have great flavors and a lot of good things going for them. read more

We found Gabe and the Ring of Fire team through some good ole fashioned internet searching and we could not be happier with our experience. Finding a food vendor for your wedding can be overwhelming. My best advice is simply to remind you that you are hiring people who know what they are doing so let them do what they do best. He gave us a ton of options and gave us free range to pick whatever we liked. On the day, the staff showed up on time and were very self-sufficient. They were tidy, friendly and accomodating. Cheryl and Matt were so very nice and incredibly helpful. Soon after they showed up, the oyster table was set up beautifully and all the guests started enjoying the delicious oysters. Then came the amazing homemade pizza and stuffed mushrooms. Mouthwatering and served with a smile! The buffet was plentiful, delicious and wonderfully presented. Gave and the rest of the Ring of Fire staff were so incredible I couldn't speak any higher of them. They were so personable and helpful- countless guests commented on how fun and awesome they were. The food was delicious and went off without a hitch! We used them for our Rehearsal Dinner on a property that already had an industrial pizza oven so they used that and brought their motorcycle vehicle and it was perfect. Yum! Had the pleasure of nomming on some pizza and other small bites at Vintner's Collective's party on Saturday. Here's what we had: Prosciutto and Margherita pizza- Both were delicious and it was hard to decide which one I liked better. They seemed to go around more with the prosciutto so I guess it was the crowd favorite. The tomatoes on the Margherita were a bit too charred/burnt for some of the guests on some of the pizzas later in the event. Maybe the oven was too hot? "My Sweet Carolina" pulled pork sliders- M ate like 5 of these. They were a really good size without being too filling. I liked the BBQ sauce and just now saw on their website that you can buy it! Wish I knew at the event. Pork was tender and the proportions of meat to bun were perfect. Roasted cauliflower with Meyer lemon dressing, olive oil- My least favorite item of the day. Lemon was overpowering. Arugula with Meyer lemon dressing, Parmesan- The lemon was good here with the peppery bite with the arugula. This was nice to have between bites of pizza and the sliders. Wish I could share a better review. We were so excited to hire Ring of Fire for our wedding, but ended up with a very disappointing experience. After getting in touch with Gabe and sampling the food, we had high hopes - loved the food and Gabe seemed easy to work with. He was easygoing and made various changes to our menu upon request, working within our budget. We exchanged many emails & phone calls discussing our needs for the day of the wedding. Unfortunately Ring of Fire did not meet expectations. We did not expect perfection on our wedding day, but the catering was by far the low point for us. Without getting into too much detail, they failed to follow through on multiple aspects of the event which we had specifically discussed. A few examples include arriving late to the venue, running out of certain food items, and not providing lemonade which we paid for. This was the first time our venue worked with Gabe and ROF. They have since been blacklisted for future events. Our venue reached out to fill us in on "behind the scenes" issues that came up during our wedding regarding Gabe/catering. We were shocked to hear the details. To be fair, we followed up with ROF afterwards to hear their point of view. After a few weeks of no response, we finally received a reply. What followed was a series of, in my opinion, unprofessional emails. Long story short, we agreed upon an amount to be refunded. This whole fiasco began late September and we are still awaiting our refund. Overall, delicious food but we wish we had hired someone else. read more

We hired Ring of Fire for my brother's wedding. We were deeply, deeply disappointed with Gabriel and Ring of Fire for a number of reasons. The event was hosted at our home. Despite explicit directions to stay out of the house, staff were going in and out throughout the evening. At the end of the event, we discovered a substantial amount of money had been taken from several wallets and pursues left in the house for safe keeping. In addition, the staff were drinking our alcohol throughout the event. When serving food, they couldn't tell guests what they were serving. Serving overall was terribly managed - each guest got about 3 leaves of arugula for salad. When I asked for more, they gave me another 2 leaves. The server at the front of the line didn't even know how to use tongs - he was holding them backwards. Clean up was also a disaster. At the end of the night, staff threw the hot coals from the pizza oven INTO THE FOLIAGE UNDERNEATH TREES IN THE FRONT YARD. We have just gone through years and years of wildfires in CA. How could anyone think it was ok to throw coals and ash into a pile of pine needles, let alone our front yard? Staff also left all of the unfinished wine bottles uncorked at the end of the evening, so we had to throw away around 8 bottle of wine the next morning. We reached out to Gabriel about all of this, but he refused to address any of our issues. These guys are freaking amazing. I was so lucky to be able to have them catering my wedding on June 5th. From the very beginning they were amazingly helpful. It turns out that I am not a wedding planner and there were some things that I had missed. As soon as Gabe showed up he realized I had no where near enough ice and immediately went to town to solve that problem. They started setting up right away and while they were doing that one of their servers Sherry pulled my wife and i aside and said she would take of us all night long and she did absolutely that. As soon as the ceremony was over they immediately started passing around pizza which was freaking delicious. From that point on they just kept serving delicious food all night long. When we sat down for dinner the tri tip they served was probably the best I've ever had in my life. And then later on in the night they served poutine fries which was a special request from us that they freaking nailed Overall these guys were helpful, fun, served delicious food. I don't think our wedding would have been half as good with our them. read more

Had Ring of Fire cater my uncle's baby shower a couple months ago. The food was amazing! (especially the tri-tip) The truck is one of a kind, I've never seen anything like it. All of the guests loved it, would definitely recommend Ring of Fire to all my friends in the future! read more

Very disappointing and disturbing experience. Ring of Fire will be black listed on my venue list. The owner was drinking alcohol throught the entire evening. It definitely came through in the way he treated my staff and his. I was saddened by his disregard for the details in the contract he had with my bride and groom but failed to perform. Meeting with a potential client and sharing a bottle of the bride and grooms bar wine back in the catering area during the wedding was the icing on the never again cake! read more

Gabe and his team exceeded our expectations. The food truck in itself is beautiful and his team was friendly and accommodating. Gabe spent a good amount of time with me over the phone to discuss exactly how we wanted the menu and the overall experience to go. He was punctual, accommodating and even came days prior to do a walk through of where we'd be having the truck. The truck is a statement piece and is sure to make any experience a positive one. People couldn't stop taking photos of it and the music they were playing was so fun that people were dancing the entire day. Also, their food is unreal. Amazing sliders and wood fired pizza that the staff would bring up to us. It was great. Highly recommend. read more

Amazing fresh food! Would have never known it was served from a truck! Fresh ceviche and the Tomato, peach burrata salad was delicious!

We hired Ring of Fire for our June wedding and I am still reliving the day, and hearing it was the best wedding anyone's ever been to. I know people say that a lot, but I've genuinely received that compliment too many times to count. Ring of fire was so easy, lovely, smooth and perfect to work with. Gabe is a true natural at what he does. I find it mind blowing the amount of work caterers put in, and how graceful they make it look. I would not recommend another caterer, and will always refer them whenever needed. They are a really great part of the Napa community, knowing they are here eases my mind. We could not thank the team enough. The food was perfect, the service is impeccable, and the customer care is outta this world.
