I have driven by this area many times this year. I did a few times when going to Coca-Cola Coliseum for Marlies and PWHL Toronto (now Sceptres) hockey games. Last night, I passed by it heading to Queen Elizabeth Theatre for a concert. I remember when this space was used for parking during the Canadian National Exhibition (The Ex). It was affordable back in the day. You basically parked on the grass, paid for parking, and walked over to the Princess Gates. Good times. Parking for The Ex is atrocious these days. It's better to take the TTC, mainly because this parking space is gone and it's cheaper than shelling out over $30. If you are looking for parking near The Bentway, you've got a couple of Green P options: - 250 Fort York Boulevard - 800 Fleet Street Paying through the Green P app is convenient. If you need to extend your parking stay, it's easy to do through the app than physically returning to the parking machine to pay for parking. The Bentway is popular in the wintertime. It becomes a skating rink where you can rent skates, skate till your heart's content, and grab some hot chocolate. In the summertime, it becomes a rollerskating party every month. You can rent skates, grab a bite to each from food trucks, and visit a few market vendors. I am looking forward to Dominoes. It's basically a community-building activity of laying down giant dominoes along a 2.5 km path through a number of downtown neighbourhoods. They are cutting through The Bentway. The domino run is scheduled for September 22 (tomorrow). It sounds like a lot of fun! The downside is that traffic is horrible in this area. There was a concert and an Argos game at Exhibition Place yesterday. Cutting through this area to get there was painful. When there aren't a lot of activities in the area, The Bentway is a calming, fun place. Otherwise, pack some patience! (371)

We came on a Sunday morning just after 10 am and the zamboni was finishing up on the rink. The rink got progressively busier the longer we stayed. A lot of families came with young children learning how to skate. There were also some teenagers zipping around the rink and generally taking up a lot of space while everyone tried to skate at a leisurely pace. There's plenty of paid parking nearby or alight at North York Centre station if taking the subway.

During the summer the rink is a shallow man-made pond and in the winters it becomes an ice rink. Parking around here can be a little tricky in the winter due to all the snowbanks that are taking up the street parking. There is free parking on Sundays till 1pm on some of the side streets nearby, just heed the parking signs. We arrived around 10am and were just in time to see the Zamboni come out to resurface the ice. There are some benches around the rink where you can put your skates on and leave your belongings. There aren't really any indoor facilities that you can go into to warm up but there is a Starbucks nearby where you can grab a hot chocolate. It did get busier as the day went on and about 12pm was the peak time we saw most people there.

An average skater could skate the entire trail in 1-1.5 mins. Unfortunately there are no skate rentals onsite. This trail is part of the park part of College Park (so many P's!). It was officially opened on 2019-12-07. It is the first outdoor skating path in North America to incorporate state-of-the-art carbon dioxide technology in its refrigeration system. This environmentally friendly technology is natural, non-toxic and non-flammable, with no net greenhouse gas effect. They use a zamboni to smoother the ice. There are 2 firepits nearby and 3 ice sculptures. There is an event called Skates and Sounds held on 2020-01-24, 2020-02-07, 2020-02-28 (all Fridays), 5-7pm, where they have a DJ, FREE 1-hour skate rentals, FREE skating frames for young children, free coffee, and free chocolates. I skated on 2020-02-07. It was about 30 years ago that I skated last! It was fun! Having free skate rental and music was a good bonus! During the warm months, it is a walking trail.

It was my first time skating in more than 3 years and the last time I skated (in Jan. 2020) it was my first visit to this Trail which was also for an Event with my skating Group. The Trail features a relatively warm indoor change room/area with a washroom but no skate rentals are available here. The Trail itself is fairly small and (of course) narrow, and when I started skating yesterday at 1:30 pm both the change room and the Trail were pretty barren. During the next 1 1/2 hours both the change room and Trail gradually became more crowded; shortly after I started skating music began playing through speakers situated around the Trail and as I was putting on my skates in the change room, several people started setting up a table for free skate rentals (subject to availability) with valid ID. Between 2:30 - 2:45 pm the Zamboni came out for ice maintenance; due to the small size of the Trail this only took about 10 - 15 minutes. Afterward I skated around the Trail a couple more times to check how much better the quality of ice was - it was considerably better - then finished shortly before 3 pm. I've skated on a few other outdoor Trails in Toronto over the years: the Colonel Samuel Smith Skating Trail in Etobicoke, the Trail at Evergreen Brick Works and The Bentway Trail underneath The Gardiner; this one is smaller than the Etobicoke Trail, about the same size as The Bentway Trail and larger than The Brickworks Trail and it's now the first Trail I've skated on more than once. With College Park next door and Yonge Street steps away there are no shortage of amenities nearby. The Trail features 'Skates & Sounds' every Friday throughout February, with a different DJ every week and free skate rentals (again, subject to availability) from 5 to 8 pm.

But, for a city of crazed hockey fans and tens of thousands of hockey playing kids it's no wonder! Christie Pitts rink is one of my favourites and it has little to do with it being on my own street! Every winter I can't wait to lace up my skates and get in one my favourite outdoor workouts in the cold. This family friendly rink is hardly over crowded and has daytime and evening public skating, as well as shiny for both kids and adults nearly every day. The rink house has a wonderfully cozy feel to it. There is a warm wood burning oven inside and once every season the Parks and Rec staff put on a fun community skating party. I went last year and it was a blast! They played music and had games for the kids. There was free coffee and hot chocolate and a wicked outdoor fire pit to roast marshmallows and hot dogs on. You could skate, eat, drink and be merry! As far as the ice itself; it is well maintained and is cleaned off by the rink staff and zamboni man every few hours. Only once last year when the snow was extremely heavy and pretty much shut down the city, was the ice not cleaned off. They're usually on top of it from what I've experienced! Outdoor skating is a great way to get some exercise and fresh air in the winter, and there are no shortage of rinks around the city to do this. Christie Pitts rink is a large rink where everyone from beginners waddling around holding on to the boards for dear life to super awesome hockey players are welcome to learn and play!

I tried contacting Jeff multiple times for help with basic issues, and he was nowhere to be found. It's incredibly stressful hosting an event and not being able to reach the person responsible for the venue. What hurt the most was what happened afterward. When I finished my event, no one came to do an inspection, no concerns were raised, and I left believing everything was fine. Days later, out of nowhere, they withheld my entire deposit and sent photos 11 days after my rental -- with no timestamps, no confirmation, and no proof they were even from the day of my event. The uncertainty and lack of transparency felt deeply unfair. I reached out trying to sort things out respectfully and reasonably. Instead, I was met with empty apologies and no real evidence. It was emotionally exhausting to keep asking for clarity and getting nowhere. I also followed their policy that clearly states the $500 deposit is fully refundable with 48 hours yet they still kept it. Feeling like you held up your end of the agreement only to be ignored and dismissed is incredibly discouraging. This experience left me stressed, disappointed, and honestly heartbroken that something meant to be a happy occasion ended in frustration. I would strongly urge anyone considering this venue to protect themselves, document absolutely everything, and be prepared for very limited support. I cannot recommend this venue based on how this was handled.
