Patti, the owner, personally rushed to clean up one of the lovely cabins for me, which wouldn't normally have been available as guests had just checked out after the Fourth of July weekend. I wanted to come here for a little writing retreat because of the chill vibe I'd heard about--small fishing town, beautiful beach and nature, friendly people, not super touristy. (As much as my family loves Port Aransas the vibe in the summer is anything but chill.) The neighborhood where the cabins are is the kind of place where everyone waves as you're passing each other on the road. There are some beautiful cows across the street that came RUNNING to greet my dog and me, miniature horses, lots of birds, chickens, and a cat or two roaming around. The cabin is super comfortable in every way, with multiple places to work on my laptop (porch, dining table, couch, chairs on the porch, bed) and even in the heat of summer it's been cool and comfortable with multiple air conditioners and ceiling fans. I love that JBB is family-owned and operated, and Patti is just one of the best people you'll ever meet.

This stop on the highway between Palacios and Bay City did just the trick. For only $5, our family had use of the park for the afternoon, and an additional fiver gave us an hour of golf cart use. That's pretty cheap entertainment for a carload of people (maybe 4 adults and 1 kid or some combination thereof). Our 3 year old was most impressed with the motoring aspect of the outing. As our visit fell at high noon at the end of August, there was little chance of seeing much wild beasts (like smart members of the circle of life, they all had the good sense to hide and take naps about this time). We did get to chase butterflies and see lots of beautiful flowers, but alas, no gators or birds were sighted. We also were able to pass by ponds, streams, the Colorado River, and check-out some turtles and minnows. After about 45 minutes, we'd traveled every trail at least once and our boy was ready to go. The nice lady at the ranger stand told us early morning is the best time for viewing the critters, and we'll plan that for next time we're in the area.

There is all the equipment I could ask for plus more. Also this gym is open 24/7 which is great because my work schedule is inconsistent. Another review mentioned the music being loud. I think it's an appropriate volume for a gym because you don't have to hear others and I don't have to worry about people hearing me when I'm out of breath. When I put my headphones on I can't hear it. Not that I need it, but I did notice there is an area for kids.

While the equipment and facility have the potential to make this an exceptional gym, there are a few items that make it an unsatisfactory experience. First, the showers are rarely cleaned and it shows. there are usually bugs, dirt, hair clumps that may remain for days before they are removed. On several occasions muddy boots have soiled the floor and it was days before the clumps were cleaned. Another negative issue is the blaring piped in music. During the day and evening, loud music may be necessary or desired to enhance moods or attitudes, but at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning, most of the gym's users are annoyed by the music turned all the way up. As I write this, I can not hear my airpods well because the house music is so loud. Iy is 6:30. the people who work out this early are: a retired pastor, two teachers, a pair of mothers, a retired couple. These are not people who need grunge music played at 100 to accomplish their exercise goals. I have asked the owner repeatedly to consider lowering the volume, but he refuses to considers his patrons.
