This park is the BEST, best being wherever I am right this minute, because I'm a dog and the past and the future mean nothing to me. Hey - smell this gate! It's all double entry so that those small freaky dogs won't get away while you're trying to get the leash off them. And HEY ! Water! There's water right there and you can dunk your ball in it when it gets too many wood chips on it. Best of all - I've mostly got this place to myself, I never have to share with rude dogs who take too many sniffs if you know what I'm talking about. My mom sometimes cheats and we play in the huge grassy area next to the gated park. She is taking a chance but we've never seen The Man here checking tags. So yeah, come get your chase on and play a while. Smell ya later!

I was really impressed with this dog park when I first arrived. They have two really large…read moresections; one for dogs under 25lbs and the other for dogs over 25lbs. They even have a dog course in the park which I thought was really cute and fun for the dogs. I am giving it 3 stars because of the people. No one followed the rules and there were big dogs on both sides. My dogs do well with old big dogs or calm big dogs; not hyper or energetic big dogs. At first, it was just a guy with one old lab. Then another guy with 3 big calm huskies. Then a lady came in with her 4 rowdy big dogs and one small dog. After that is was chaos, they were chasing my dogs and trying to dominate. Once we noticed the rowdy dogs enter, we tried to leave. Then more people with more big dogs came in and were causing my dogs to run away scared. It's one thing if you have calm big dogs or if the park was void of little dogs but common courtesy to just follow the rules or at least ask if we minded. What's the point of a split park if big dogs are on both sides. Might as well remove the fence. Which doesn't matter cause the fence is short enough that once we did get our dogs to leave a dog hopped the fence into the in between fence where you leash/unleash. He was just waiting for us to come in so he could play with my dogs. We just waited and he hopped the fence again but now on our side! Just too much stress for my dogs and I sadly won't be going back. I really had high hopes when we first got there. I was in love with the park but it's just not worth it for my dogs. If your dogs mesh well with big dogs of all types, I highly recommend. It is a great park as long as the people are respectful.

Once you locate the dog park you will see that it is spacious and neat. It is all rock with a few different levels of space for pups to play. Unfortunately, there isn't much shade and there aren't any soft surfaces like grass for dogs to play on. There also don't seem to be many people who use this park and when they do, no one cleans up after their dog. The park was fine for me to sit quietly for 20 minutes or so while my pup smelled around unleashed. Overall it was ok.

The playground equipment is small and not so great for little kids. In the evenings, it is crowded. There is usually someone selling concessions under the shaded picnic tables. Overall, I think the park has a lot of potential, what turns me off is that it is so crowded and poorly maintained (the same sticky seat has not been leaned in 3 months).

I love this dog park as they have a large area for dogs to roam around off-leash and have separate…read moreareas for large vs. small dogs as well as areas to just walk your dogs on a path. Most dog owners are nice and there seemed to be regulars here. They are friendly and for the most/majority of dogs and their owners, they are pretty nice and friendly. I like that my dogs feel comfortable there and can take some time to socialize with other dogs as they pleased...or can be left alone if they weren't in a mood to play with other dogs. There are also water area to get your dogs a bit refreshed and free poop bags if you ever need them, too. The only thing is just that not everyone picked up after their dogs. While the parks are generally clean, I've seen poos lying around here and there..and I wished owners would at least look/clean up after their dogs. Otherwise, I like this park the most so far..to the fact that I take the time to drive close to half an hour each way several times a week to this park to entertain my dogs (most visitors seemed to be locals in the area/live very nearby).

We, and the fur kids, LOVE this dog park…read more Unlike most (all?) other dog parks, this is NOT one big, flat, open, space. Whereas most parks are stripped of all weeds, plants, etc, leveled, sprinkled with few trees, benches and some bark mulch all inside one big fence, this park was designed to be different. In creating it the city intentionally left in place most of the existing plants, terrain, etc. Some trees were planted on both sides, bark mulch, and benches were added, and voilà! A new type of dog park was born! There are two play areas for your dog to choose from. One for big(ger) dogs (25+ lbs), and one for smaller dogs (under 25 lbs), divided down the middle with a dirt/gravel walking path. The first section is a large area with an obstacle course, one covered set of benches near the course, and more uncovered benches placed throughout. While this space is designated for bigger dogs, smaller dogs are welcome too, provided they're okay hanging with the bigger pups. On the west side of the park is a smaller, but equally nice smaller dog area Like on the big dog side, there's one covered set of benches, along with few uncovered stand alone benches placed throughout. Unfortunately though, there's no obstacle course on this side. The north side of the park has an entrance/staging area that has a pump, a big (plastic) bowl for water, and a couple of benches. The gates for both the big and small dog areas are accessible from there, as well as the entrance to the path dividing the two sections. There are more parking spaces on the south side of the park than on the north, so if you're coming by car I'd plan to use the lot on Ventana Village Rd (just W of Universe) which is right next to Ventana Ranch Elementary. That south side also has staging area, a pump, water dish and benches. The entrance for the bigger dogs play area is accessible from the south, but the small dog area is not. To get to there you'll either need to take the path I mentioned above, or walk through the big dog area and out to the staging section on the north end. There's only one gate into the small dog play area, and it's on the north end of the park. My only complaint about the park is there are quite a few ants in the small dog area. It's not overrun, and if your dog is spending their time running around, then they probably won't notice them. But they are there, so be aware, and watch where you sit/stand. I don't know whether the big dog side has the same problem, as we spend all our time on the side for the littles. We don't come here as often as we probably should, given how close it is to our house (about a 5 - 10 minute walk), but it really is a great park, and a nice thing to have so close to home. If you're anywhere near Ventana Ranch, you and your fur kids should come check it out!

The Good: Massive piece of recreational real estate which includes a sprawling baseball/soccer…read morearea, dog run, playground and public library. The dog run alone is its own park. The playground is mighty fun, with an Indiana Jones-esque bridge running a ways above the ground, long curling slide, and the basics: bucket and big kid swings (long radius), climbing apparatus, the usual. Gorgeous view of the city and the mountains to the east. The Bad: The usual: Sand, no shade. Not a lot of picnic tables or gathering areas for families to celebrate and recreate. From the signage, it appears that air-filled bouncers aren't allowed here, not that I personally care. The biggest issue that I noted was the wind. While it was a breezy day, this park seems to be perched on peak of a hill without trees, and a light breeze turns into a full-on blizzard at times. My kid wanted to leave soon after arrival. The Verdict: On a calm day, bring the kids and make a day of it. Don't forget to snuggle your local library. This is actually possible, library snuggling. I find a nice corner and nuzzle my face into the carpet. I consider it a societal duty.
