There are two areas, both located behind one of the baseball fields - one area is more grassy but fewer trees, the other with wood chips and better shade. There's a water fountain on the far east end and plenty of available trash cans and clean-up bags. I don't have children but taking your dog to the dog park seems to pull a number of similar themes with taking your kid to the playground: 1) safety, 2) sanitation, and 3) camaraderie. Safety: I don't believe it's truly fair to judge a venue by its patrons, but the pups that frequent Bullhead are "tough." Anecdotally there seems to be more rough (but generally safe) play than just trotting around, friendly sniffing, or lounging in the shade. This works for many pups, but not all. Obviously this fluctuates with the temperament of the dogs present. Know your dog and assess the situation appropriately for him/her. Sanitation: Despite the numerous signs around the park, owners seem to neglect that Rover and Sparky will probably using their playground opportunity to relieve themselves. Please, folks, clean up after your dogs. You don't want to step in that and you REALLY don't want to clean those smelly paws after your dog tramples through a pile while chasing a frisbee. Pick it up - it's the right thing to do. Camaraderie: There is a clear group of "regulars" here. They know each other and they know each other's dogs. Initially this felt a bit like the 3rd grade playground - "Who's the new girl? Her dog seems weird..." (you get the idea) but they have warmed up over time. There are only a few benches in this park along with some free floating patio furniture, so seating can be hard to come by. Overall, it's a matter of convenience that we go to Bullhead, rather than a love of the place. We'll be returning for more pup playtime and hopefully new furry friends to be made.

Most dog owners are nice and there seemed to be regulars here. They are friendly and for the most/majority of dogs and their owners, they are pretty nice and friendly. I like that my dogs feel comfortable there and can take some time to socialize with other dogs as they pleased...or can be left alone if they weren't in a mood to play with other dogs. There are also water area to get your dogs a bit refreshed and free poop bags if you ever need them, too. The only thing is just that not everyone picked up after their dogs. While the parks are generally clean, I've seen poos lying around here and there..and I wished owners would at least look/clean up after their dogs. Otherwise, I like this park the most so far..to the fact that I take the time to drive close to half an hour each way several times a week to this park to entertain my dogs (most visitors seemed to be locals in the area/live very nearby).

We, and the fur kids, LOVE this dog park…read more Unlike most (all?) other dog parks, this is NOT one big, flat, open, space. Whereas most parks are stripped of all weeds, plants, etc, leveled, sprinkled with few trees, benches and some bark mulch all inside one big fence, this park was designed to be different. In creating it the city intentionally left in place most of the existing plants, terrain, etc. Some trees were planted on both sides, bark mulch, and benches were added, and voilà! A new type of dog park was born! There are two play areas for your dog to choose from. One for big(ger) dogs (25+ lbs), and one for smaller dogs (under 25 lbs), divided down the middle with a dirt/gravel walking path. The first section is a large area with an obstacle course, one covered set of benches near the course, and more uncovered benches placed throughout. While this space is designated for bigger dogs, smaller dogs are welcome too, provided they're okay hanging with the bigger pups. On the west side of the park is a smaller, but equally nice smaller dog area Like on the big dog side, there's one covered set of benches, along with few uncovered stand alone benches placed throughout. Unfortunately though, there's no obstacle course on this side. The north side of the park has an entrance/staging area that has a pump, a big (plastic) bowl for water, and a couple of benches. The gates for both the big and small dog areas are accessible from there, as well as the entrance to the path dividing the two sections. There are more parking spaces on the south side of the park than on the north, so if you're coming by car I'd plan to use the lot on Ventana Village Rd (just W of Universe) which is right next to Ventana Ranch Elementary. That south side also has staging area, a pump, water dish and benches. The entrance for the bigger dogs play area is accessible from the south, but the small dog area is not. To get to there you'll either need to take the path I mentioned above, or walk through the big dog area and out to the staging section on the north end. There's only one gate into the small dog play area, and it's on the north end of the park. My only complaint about the park is there are quite a few ants in the small dog area. It's not overrun, and if your dog is spending their time running around, then they probably won't notice them. But they are there, so be aware, and watch where you sit/stand. I don't know whether the big dog side has the same problem, as we spend all our time on the side for the littles. We don't come here as often as we probably should, given how close it is to our house (about a 5 - 10 minute walk), but it really is a great park, and a nice thing to have so close to home. If you're anywhere near Ventana Ranch, you and your fur kids should come check it out!

The area is not hard to find, you just need a good pair of eyes to follow the two signs that point you in the direction, not joking. The parking area is small, but I would bet you'd be the only person parked here, just as I was. The first area you enter you'll see the entrance sign and all the rules. It says no dogs off leash in this area, though I found no one to be enforcing it... oops. The actual dog area is to the right of this sign through the green gate. Once you enter, you'll notice a well-worn path that encircles the area. It's about 0.33 miles round trip, 7 ish minutes to walk at a leisurely pace. Tons of sticker bushes around, and the area itself is not the most well kept park, but I'm glad we got to walk around some. My pup didn't wander off into the center of the area, but she kept on the path and I'm thankful for that. I did not want to be constantly picking off things from her paws. Bring a trash bag with you to pick up the litter here and there. All in all, might come back to see if she'll do the little obstacle course they have set up!

The playground…read moreis big enough to maintain a kid's interest and enthusiasm for at least an hour, and there's plentiful seating in both shady and sunny spots. A birthday party would probably be a great success here, especially with supplemental kites or frisbees or other throwing things. The grassy field is sizable enough for kickball and other such terrain-sprawling sport. We had a compelling game of pine one ninja (think live-action fruit ninja, sub Dowel rods and pine cones). There's a quaint earthen walking path on the far side of the park that, I believe, leads to a pedestrian sidewalk passing over I40 and leading to the Winrock mall. There's also A bunch of well-maintained tennis courts, which I thought were for public use but appear to be restricted access... tennis club or something? I don't know for sure; better check with google on that. There's imposing chain link fences surrounding them, and while tunneling under may be difficult due to the asphalt and turf perimeter, you could probably climb them if you really wanted to play when the courts were closed. * Yelp does not condone criminal trespassing, and their views are not necessarily reflected in my satirical advice on circumventing restricted access. One star deducted because of bathroom access. There's one in that... tennis club?... building, but of course your bladder relief is then at the mercy of their hours of operation. Go play here. At the other Far end of the park, There is a child's playground filled with wood chips few swings, along with a slide structure. This park is great to go walking pretty much any time of the day, although I don't recommend walking around it late at night. It is mostly dog friendly, As long as people are respectful of picking up after their dogs waste. It takes up about one block radius. It is greatly use by the surrounding neighborhood, especially, with family with young kids who like to come and use the playground structure. There are some trees to sit under for some shades especially in the summertime. There is however a, a water tower station right next to it. Which is fenced off to the public. It is a good little park right near a busy intersection on Carlisle street going southbound. Despite the ongoing traffic, Overall, it is quiet place to sit and read or go walking around the park few times.
