They don't value loyal customers. Ive been going to Rio for almost 4 years and only saw 1 hairstylist, she was wonderful. However, the management of this salon greatly disappointed me. I scheduled my appointment 3 months out for January with my hairstylist. A month before my appointment was due, I learned that someone in their salon gave my appointment away to another customer and the told me I need to "figure out" in picking a different stylist or a different date if I want to be with the same stylist I originally booked. The manager on the phone admitted that they gave my appointment away by an accident and instead of calling the other person that they gave my appointment to, they told me to again, "figure it out." Poor customer service from management and I felt disappointed after my 4 year loyalty they treated me like that. So, this is a one time shop. If you want a salon that does good work and cares about their customers, then stay away from this place. read more

My wife was getting her eyelashes done at LASH next door and I needed to get a haircut so I went next door to Rio Hair Studio. TITLE: MULLET, courtesy of Fran I went in, with an appointment, to get my asymmetrical haircut trimmed so that would be straight at the bottom to grow out evenly. I also asked for some longer layers so that it wouldn't be so flat. Initially, the length was fine, but the layers were like 2 drastically chopped shelves in the middle of my head, not at all evenly spaced or even close to the total length. I asked if these could be blended in so that it was a bit more cohesive, very nicely I might add, and ended up with a MULLET. I kid you not. PICTURES POSTED. The stylist tried to brush it off the MULLET she had just given me as a "shag" and told me it was in style. The layers could ALL be put in a small high pony tail with the entire rest being a single length, no layers. When pulled away from my scalp, the way layers are normally cut between two fingers, there was a DRASTIC drop from straight cut to 6-7 inches longer. Pictures of this posted, too. My hair is parted with most hanging to the left of my face, and the layers there did NOT match any other location on my entire head, they were half the length of the rest of my hair and was about 80% of the hair on that side so they couldn't even be fixed or blended when I had to go SOMEWHERE ELSE! AND I HAD TO PAY FOR IT, AND WAS EVEN DUMB ENOUGH TO TIP! I will NEVER be going here again, and i do NOT recommend this place to anyone else either. I should have known, seeing as how my stylist looked like she was wearing Ed Hardy attire, but I trusted her as a "professional" (ha). I dont know if she was drunk, on drugs, or what but this is BY FAR THE WORST haircut I have ever had in my entire life. read more

They claimed to know how to cut curly hair. Actually the charge you more for a curly hair. I was confident because she said she had taken a curse. I showed her a photo of what I wanted (the first one that you can see here). She started to cut the hair and then I saw she was cutting really near my head and I told her "it believe it's really short" (I know my hair is going to shrink). And she replied, oh no I need to do the layering, if you want volume this is how. This place just doesn't know how to cut curly hair. I'm so mad I came here.I am crying, literally she did with my hair what she wanted, not what I ask for. I wanted to update my review... the owner called me, she asked about what happened, she told me she will give me my 42 dollars (yes, I even pay for this disaster) back if I erase this review. Seriously! I replied I would not take it down and to keep the money. So dissapointed, I would have changed my review if the owner took a better attitude. Haven't cut my hair in a salon in literally 10 years. Everyone was very welcoming and hospitable. Riley knew I was coming in to get rid of my dead ends. They were driving me nuts and my hair was down to my butt. I knew a lot had to go. She made sure I was okay with the new length (I was). She was very kind, made great conversation, and transformed my damage into a healthy head of hair. Even though I washed before I came in, she washed my hair again so she could blow dry it out because I said I wanted to feel like a new woman when I left. I certainly did! My hair feels amazing. Terrible experience. Will never return again!!! First 100 dollar deposit then got an estimate for 245-260. Guess was counting on the remainder of 150 to be due. Now the terrible part . Got there at 9 and 6 hours later done. The girl miscalulated amount of coloring and kept mixing more jacking my bill up higher. I felt the rep was unprofessional and in over her head and finally rushed me out cause she had a 3:15 appointment. Then they give me a bill of 360 dollars. Remember I already paid 100 deposit. Nearly 500 haircut and color holy crap!! Looks like novice did it. Drum roll please if they didn't get enough from me, they proceed to try to sell me 100 worth of product. No thanks lol. She is a curly girl herself and she really gets it. I think I blew a sigh of relief as soon as she said she would cut my hair dry. No panic. She did a fabulous job on my hair. Went back to her for a color treatment. Let me just say that the only reason I would ever do a home color again, is if I had an emergency grey situation. It is just no competition to professional color treatment. The color was expensive, the cut not so much. But if it makes my hair look great, it's probably worth it. I made an appointment with Sara to get highlights and I paid $170 and my roots were not done and looked extremely unblended. She said she was gonna fix it but then blew me off. Terrible and I felt tricked and now I gotta go pay full price somewhere else just to get the hair I want. If you are getting highlights I'd recommend another salon or at least not Sara. read more

This is my second time here and I don't remember who cut my hair the last time, but this time I won't forget! Dani was amazing. I wish I would've done a before and after. I got quite a bit cut off and it feels so light. I have naturally wavy hair but she straightened it out to add layers and it's been so long that I've actually had it straightened that I forgot how much I like it. I have tried to give this salon and multiple stylists a chance and each time was the same result. Messed up orange, spotty hair. The lighting is TERRIBLE and toner can fool you! This last time I went to have my hair lightened after being brown for a while, something I have always done for 25+ and never had an issue. I was a level 5 wanting to go blond again which was usually achieved by full head highlights. I originally wanted to be booked with their blond specialist but she was booked out (I had a wedding I was going to that I wanted my hair blond for in 3 weeks) but I was told they had another stylist that trained under her and would be great. Cool, salon receptionist booked the appt for easter sunday. Obviously realizing a week later they called to reschedule my appt a day or two before the appt. It's Easter I get it so I rescheduled but told them I had a wedding to go to and needed it done before that. Scheduled new appt for the following Sunday. Stylist felt balayage would be best because of how much hair I have and that would lighten as much as possible the fastest..my hair was orange on the top and very over-processed on the bottom and TERRIBLY spotty. Orange was kind of corrected with toner for the day, but my hair doesn't hold toner at all so for 6 weeks I had to wear my hair up because it was too spotty and orange to wear down. New appt to correct (so I hoped) my hair 6 weeks later, I tell the stylist how toner doesn't hold in my hair and I would like to see it before she tones it this time and that I have been very unhappy. I wasn't upset with her because hair can be unpredictable sometimes but as a stylist you should care what it looks like. A repeat balayage now completely destroys my hair to where all of the face framing hair is burnt off, the bottom is like elastic string and the top of my hair is still orange and very spotty and inconsistently lightened. I have a wedding to go to immediately after this appt so even though she notices and comments that it's bad there is no time to fix it. You would think if you know it's bad and the stylist knows it's bad they would make sure to get you in ASAP to correct...NOPPE not this salon (once you pay your 100s of dollars to them they don't care what it looks like.) My next appt is pushed out 8+ weeks!! Listen I have a lot of hair, I have NOOOO problem spending hundreds of dollars on my hair as long as it looks good. I cant be mad at the stylist completely or blame her because what the sweet receptionist that talked her up and told my how she trained under the blond expert FAILED to mention was that she had just started doing hair and had only been out of hair school a year maybe. Normally I don't complain and I never write a review however I think this salons reviews are misleading. They are probably great at hair cuts and adding color..I decided to write this review because after $600+ dollars on my hair NOT including what I have spent to correct it so that I can at least wear it down but they messed it up twice, pushed my appt out 8+ weeks to correct it KNOWING IT looked bad but then called me yesterday the week of my next appt to tell me they were bumping my appt from 9 am to 1 PM hope it works for you or we can reschedule. So an appt that has been booked for 2 months is now getting rescheduled for the middle of the afternoon when it takes 5+ hours to do my hair in general. So never mind I already have plans for the afternoon because I schedule it around the hair appt that has been scheduled for 2 months but it's basically like take it or reschedule your already waited 2 months with bad hair we messed up twice for an even later date. I already wasn't impressed with the salon, the stylist and the way they handle situations but it's crazy to KNOW you messed up someone's hair twice, they paid full price for that messed up hair TWICE you don't do anything to fit them in to fix it just make them wait 6 weeks, 8 weeks but can move their appointment like it's nothing. I've been going to Rio hair salon for a while. I saw Sami skinner and I have to say she has to have about the worst attitude of any hairdresser I've ever had. I have no problem paying good money for a master stylist but when a stylist is doing 3 people at once and they leave your toner on too long and you're hair comes out grey/purple don't tell me it's so difficult to do and blame me as a client for her mistake. My hair should have been blonde and shades root. I paid $170 for my hair color to be the same as I went in. Sami can definitely cut and style hair but her arrogance unfortunately supersedes any work she can possibly do. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE. No offence Sami but there other people out there just as good if not better. You may want to reconsider the way you treat your customers, without us ... you would be nowhere!!! read more

Shelby is absolutely amazing! I came to her for a color correction and she was able to completely transform my hair. She listened to me and looked over a set of photos I had collected before jumping in. She gave me EXACTLY what I wanted, a subtle chocolate balayage. She is an impressive stylist, she was a lot of fun to talk to, and she made my overall experience really great. I was so nervous to trust a new stylist, but now I am beyond thankful to have found her! The salon itself is really nice and the stylists all keep up with current trends and training. Friendly relaxing atmosphere with all the help you need to pick out product for my hair type from their great selection. Misty has done the best color on my hair than any other salon I've been to. When I couldn't get her I used other professional colonists there and they have all done a fabulous job! My cuts are always great as well. Krystal Burr is my hero! She does amazing work with color! I'm always afraid when going to a new stylist because you never know what to expect but as soon as she said hello, I almost instantly felt comforted. She has such a bubbly personality and is great to talk to. I get a certain dark reddish-violet color in my hair and most people can't understand me when I explain it to them. She instantly knew the color with my vague explanation and it turned out spot on to what I wanted! I couldn't be any happier! Another thing I'm thrilled about is, my hair NEVER holds a curl, she made the curls hold! I don't know what kind of witch craft she used on it but it worked! 8 hrs strong and still holding!!! Now about the salon, it is located in a little shopping area amongst a few restaurants and other stores. Parking is a bit scarce but if you get your appointment early it shouldn't be an issue. The inside of the salon was very nice and I was greeted and taken care of promptly. I definitely would recommend this salon to anyone asking about one! read more

I go to Rio to get my locks colored by Laura, and she does an excellent job. I'm Filipino and my hair is naturally dark brown. I decided, last year, that I wanted to make the journey to becoming a blondie. So far, Laura has definitely upgraded my blonde. Anybody who has dark hair knows that going lighter is going to be a long, and very difficult journey, IF you don't find the right stylist. Laura's specialty is blondes, more specifically, fake blondes like myself. I absolutely HATE being brassy, Laura has kept my highlights cool with a bit of warmth here and there. But, for the most part, I like being a "cooler" blonde and I am just that. She does pretty well with cuts as well. I am deathly afraid of anybody cutting my hair, I mean, yes I understand I have split ends, blahblahblah-- but it is MY hair and I will tell you how much I want cut off. I do NOT like when stylists take it upon themselves to cut, cut away because they think they're doing me a favor. I told Laura I wanted some layers to add some shape and movement to my hair, and to keep the length, of course. She showed me how much she was going to cut and I agreed to it. Once she was done with the blow out, I loved it.. perfect. It pretty much looked like I didn't get much of a cut, but the layers were obvious :) I gave Rio 3 stars because I don't like the interior decor, and I guess they're re-designing. I have been very disappointed with my hair stylist. I always have to wait when I am on time for my appointment. She has become very complacent. I look to the stylist for advise, not me telling them what I want and all I get is a touch-up because there is no time. Why isn't there time? We talked about highlights when booking the appointment. You don't have time because not only do you double-book, you triple book. Rinsed my hair in between appointments and said "I will be right back." That means to me you will be right back to put the toner on. Nope, you went back to the other client and dried her hair leaving me with my head in the sink. I use to get compliments on my hair.
