I just finished my 8-night stay here for work. Pros: the gentleman running the place is very accommodating and provided the best service he could muster when I asked him to 1) help get the AC to run longer than 6 seconds (he couldn't actually fox that issue but i realized it was set to "Energy Saver" later in the week and adjusted it on my own), 2) provide more TP, 3) remagnetize my key after getting too close to my cell phone rendered it unuseable. Cons: no shampoo, no bath soap, no ice machine, pool out of order, loud traffic noise, weak and easily penetrated internet (messages of Russian infiltration were popping up), and probably the worst part of the whole experience were the clientele who were screaming and pounding on doors morning and night. read more

While some people tend to review based on everything around the world, I feel fairness is reviewing based on what's in the area. That being said, having stayed at several overpriced and underwhelming, "Marina Resorts" in the area, the Rio Sands has my 5 star. Rates might vary based on time of the year, but I'm here the day I'm writing this review. For a very reasonable $105, you get a room, Air conditioner, shower, toilet, light blocking curtain, double paned windows, a bed, clean sheets, free wifi, pool access, a laundry room, a shower, soap, towels, and a coffee pot(with coffee, sugar, pink, and powder creamer). Compared to some of the Marina resorts I've stayed at (which are outdated cabins with none of the above ammeninites for $170@night) I'd say Rio sands is a bargain. You're right on the main drag in town, which puts you across the street from a McDonalds. There are several 24 hour stores in the area for those last minute things you might need. The Marina resorts I've stayed at shutter their shops as early as 5:30pm. Each room has a theme. I'm in room 10, which is rock and roll themed. Right now I'm hearing people outside, the highway, but then again I have my windows wide open. Again, if you have realistic expectations, you'll be happy. There's an in-room TV with comcast cable. The wifi isn't the greatest. Testing up/down speeds I'm at 0.5mbps. Yet the wifi is 5 bar, and the connection is stable. You're limited to one device per room, but that's not a huge deal either. All in all, I like this place and will be coming back here with my family next year. read more

Currently here now due to out of town work. I'm typically someone to overlook inconvenient things and not be to overwhelming. First room I was in with my roomate, I got ate alive by bed bugs and when I confronted the counter about the issue I was met with "idk what to say, maybe you're getting bit while you're at work". So without any concrete evidence I did not pursue the matter, that was until I caught one crawling right by my face one night. Went to the front desk again, I was offered ZERO compensation and furthermore when I asked for a different room all they could say was that he did not have any available. So I had to do his job for him and switch with one of my coworkers. After the switch, a couple nights following, we were met with bed bugs AGAIN. And this time when we confronted the front desk, the same lazy asshole tells us "you guys have to be the ones bringing them into the rooms". If I could give this place negative stars, I would. The permanent tenants are constantly smoking their grass, which not everyone likes the small of that stuff. The office smells like a pig pen, they told us several times that the pool was closed without reason, they don't clean anything rather they just replace towels and make your bed with the same sheets every day. And for everyone thinking bout staying here, the first room we left....they did absolutely nothing to fix the bed bug dilemma, instead they re opened the room the very next day read more

Really gross. Not only does the room smell like cigarettes (even though the door says non-smoking) but the sight of dead flies on the floor was enough for me. The creepy decorations on the walls scared me (rusted iron tools and bear traps). Worst of all, when I opened up the bed covers a few flies came flying out. Immediately went to front desk to check out and the front desk guy didn't seem surprised and refunded me without any mention of it. Don't trust the website. read more

This hotel in inconsistent with their prices. I called and asked what the nightly rate would be for family visiting and was told no more than $130 a night. Then when family called they we told $140 a night. Which $10 might not mean much but it does when you plan to stay multiple nights. You can find nicer hotels in Antioch Pittsburg for less. read more

Went to a wedding on the Delta and the Rio Sands was the closest motel that accepts pets. When we got to the room, it had a funky smell coming from the fridge. It wasn't overpowering so we stayed there. The room is large enough with 2 beds, small fridge, microwave, desk and a chair. The bathroom was small with a very old tile shower about 30" square. The room has Pergo type flooring that we noticed was dirty the first night. Back at the room the next day , the cleaning staff had made the beds with the old sheets and restocked the bathroom without doing any cleaning. The floor makes your feet black and now the whole place feels dirty. We won't stay there again. Won't recommend to a friend. read more

This is the biggest dump I have ever stayed in, don't trust anything the staff tells you, drove all the way down from Yerington NV, they advertise there open till 11:00 PM, don't believe it, called said I'd be there by 10:00 PM and was told no problem, arrived at 10:05 and they were closed, no one around and no place to stay, had to drive back to Lodi and try to find a room, it's now 10:40, finally found one, in the morning drove back to a bunch of excuses, no air conditioning, terrible service, and a jerkwad at the front counter. read more

We just checked out of Rio Sands in Rio Vista and are not happy. Our bathroom had the towel bar falling out of the wall, the sink was plugged, the shower pan was cracked and the shower was leaking. Booking.com said that the bathrooms had been redone but apparently our room (14) was the one room that had not been as per the front desk lady. Last but not least we were ravaged by some sort of pest while sleeping (either fleas or bedbugs) so we left covered in bites! We evacuated the Atlas fire area hoping for some relief and this is what we got! Terrible! read more

I not sure what all the fuss is about. This is a nice place with friendly staff. I was driving past and thought "My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night" . I was greeted upon arrival by a nice gentleman. He helped get me settled in. The room was good size and clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I slept good considering it's on the highway and there's plenty of semi truck traffic noise. I found that Chris and Tina did a good job when they cleaned the room before me. Btw, Please tip housekeeping when you stay. I'm sure they have more stories than I'd like to hear about guests bad habits. If you would tip your waitress for good service, why wouldn't you tip housekeeping to clean up after you? All in all I can't really complain. The price was competitive not overpriced taking into account its the only local place. I took some pics so people can see the good stuff. There were no holes in the walls or spider webs as others have said. I'd definitely return and recommend this place if your in town. read more

Thin walls, can hear a lot from the other guests. Stairs and upper lever walkway echo through the room. Floor was not clean to the point I would not walk around barefoot. Bathroom reeked of bleach. The TV and fridge did not work. Mattresses were cheap and uncomfortable at best and did not appear very clean either. Find somewhere else you'll be happy you did. read more

We are regular road trippers, travelling w/a med size dog (40lbs). Usually stay @Motel-6, bc of the ease. Don't know what the other reviewers thought they were getting, but this is pretty much what we expected for the price. They are pet friendly & have specific pet rooms. For all you unreformed smokers, there are smoking rooms avail. We were there for 3 nights Labor Day wknd. The place was clean enough, if a bit shabby, really similar to Motel-6. The wifi worked in our room, which was right in the center of the place, so you gotta fig it worked on either end! The pool was clean & not over chlorinated (I am a regular swimmer, so I notice). The staff was courteous & helpful when we asked about places to go, things to do etc... My bed was GREAT & I am super picky about this! It was firm w/some kind of topper that was pretty cush. Seriously this was not some old nasty mattress. It was in the 90's & my rooms AC kept me comfy thru the hot nights. And when the windows were closed, they blocked all sounds from the road. Also we had a nice flat screen tv. As for in-room phone, really? Everybody has a cell these days, feel free to use it! Little things like that are what help keep the rates low. The Delta area caters mostly to RV/camper folk. There are a few B&B's nearby in Isleton if that's your (pricey) cup of tea. I'm just looking for a reasonable, serviceable place to lay my head before I go out exploring w/my dog for the day. I found it at the Rio & at only 1+hrs from the Bay Area, I will be going back again. read more

I've been to this large several times I have been walked in on with my girlfriend at the absolute worst possible time twice while there was a do not disturb sign on the door another time there was fecal matter all over the mattress and the maid just flipped the mattress over but it was the kind that you should should flip over so it felt like sleeping on box springs I wouldn't waste my time or money there if you have an option avoid that place read more

Can't leave a minus rating? Run! Do not stay here. Horrible rooms, filthy carpets, old nasty beds and pillows. No soap, shampoo or hairdryer. Were not given enough towels for 3 people. No washcloths avaible at all. Did not clean the room for second day. Went to front desk to report room not made up and was told there was only one maid that day and she couldn't get to it . Still no washcloths to be found. Pool disgusting. A family was attempting to clean the pool themselves. Very sad. read more

I think this little family operated motel is great. Their rooms are nice, and always clean. Their staff is friendly and very helpful. It is nice that they allow dogs as well, because I can't be without my pooch when I travel. I like that there arent any phones in the rooms because sometimes being "unplugged" from the world is refreshing. All in all, I think this place is a good spot to stay if you are passing through. read more

I love this motel. It hasn't changed much over the years--I went there about 15 years ago as well as this summer, and it and still has the charm of a 50s or 60s motel--with the low rates to match. (Don't go if you want something slick and brand new.) We went there escaping the Delta heat, and were in a state of exhaustion. The folks who work at the desk are smart and funny, and were very obliging with all our requests. The women who clean the rooms were fun to chat with too, and helpful, and the rooms were clean with nice firm beds. The POOL, though small, was SPARKLING CLEAN. I love swimming and motel pools are very important to me. I had a deliriously good time cooling off in the pool. I'd go back in a heartbeat, and might even go out of my way for this sweet old place! read more

Meh. I've experienced "Much" better. I guess in this day of technology some motels no longer provide telephones...a practice that burns my backside! What if there were an emergency and the "Paid 'Guest'" had no manner in which to contact emergency services. The room does have a coffee pot, microwave, and refrigerator. Not such a big deal after you turn on the terribly noisy heater. Not a bad place, and the staff was very friendly...but I had to make my own bed! No joke! There were no blankets whatsoever on my bed. After I paid for my room (in advance, of course) and I had to do the work that is provided by every other motel/hotel [I have ever stayed]. Being no telephone I had to walk to the front desk, in my bed clothes, and it was cold and windy (outside). Hopefully I am not handed a mop and bucket when I proceed to checkout. read more

The star is for having a bed in the room. This is a run down lodge which I was surprised was the best in this town. I suggest you stay in a town out of Rio Vista since they are short on a decent place to rest your head. Our room was from the "Outer Limits", bathroom was moldy, the walls were dirty, the rug was gross, the curtain had holes, I really felt it was as "seedy" as it gets for me. I wondered when the bedspread was washed last...OMG. Oh yeah the oscillating heater was sitting on the desk since the built in was obviously non existing. Next year we will drive for 20 minutes and have more choices. read more

We stayed 3 nights at this motel while visiting our daughter in the area and were very pleased with our accommodations. We had two dogs along for the ride and they were happy to put them up, too. Our room had the most comfortable king bed I have ever slept in, including my own. The room was clean and had all of the amenities that they described. Amenities included a 12 cup coffeemaker, microwave, small refrigerator, flat screen tv. Didn't see any ice bucket so didn't look for ice. No phone in the room, but with all of us having cell phones, no biggie. Even though the motel is near the highway, the noise wasn't a problem. A nice clean room and would stay here again. read more

It is the most disgusting place I have ever been to. It was filthy. Imagine the worst place ever and times that by 10. How they are even still open I do not know. There is no clock in the room, no phone. The wifi did not work. There was hair all over and even in the sink. The sink did not drain either. Most of the lights did not work in the room too.The shower was so moldy and dirty that we had to take showers with our shoes on. The floor was so dirty and the chairs were the most disgusting of all. They charge you 70-90 dollars to stay here. It's not even worth $20. The pool was so dirty and gross that you can't even use it either. So you pay money to have nothing and to be in a dirty gross environment. Oh and you only have one pillow too. So with 4 people, you get 2 pillows. This place is a joke and would never ever stay here or recommend anyone to EVER! The pictures are a lie on the website. They don't deserve a one star either. BEWARE!!!!!!! read more

I have stayed in the Rio Sands lodge for the Bass Festival for the past four years. This year I was exceptionally disappointed! I am staying here this weekend, and as my first night here I am compelled to write my first Yelp review. The room is not only dirty but just plain gross. I won't even let my 2 yr old daughter take her shoes off. The floor is filthy, unswept, paid very little attention to. When we arrived I saw a maid open our room's door, spray Windex on floor, swish it around with a filthy looking mop and then continue on to the next room.. Yuck. The bathroom sink had hair in it, the mini fridge was moldy, smelly and also had hair in it. The ("non-smoking") room smelled like smoke and was just generally unkempt and didn't even seem like it had been looked over other than somewhat clean sheets! The tv does not work and the towels are damp and stained. What a disappointment. Please do not spend your hard earned money staying here at the Rio Sands Lodge read more

For quite some time my Husband and I wanted to take a weekend fishing trip to Rio Vista and stay at the Rio Sands Lodge. In November 2012 we decided this is what we'd do for our 31st Wedding Anniversary. The office staff was very helpful and friendly; we even sent an email with a question and they responded promptly. When we arrived, we were a bit early but they offered for us to check in anyhow. We couldn't have been more pleased with our room. When we opened the door it had a fresh scent, the room was very clean, there were fresh cut flowers in a vase, furniture was updated, matching and clean. Each room has a quaint, individual decor; ours was holding with the River and Water theme. We slept very well at night as the bed was comfortable, the heater worked well and we could not hear road noise. The grounds are well maintained with a beautiful manicured garden. We couldn't have been happier and were already planning our next stay before we left. Rio Sands Lodge is a step back in time, as most of Rio Vista; full of character. If your looking for glitz and glam, go to some other city and stay at the Hyatt Regency. But if you'd like to have a quiet, pleasant, memorable trip; stay at the Rio Sands Lodge. read more
