This was a really charming place. The staff were warm and welcoming. The drinks were good. We spent the evening ghost hunting which was fun. They are in the midst of renovations which are sorely needed but you can see some very real potential there. It's like stepping back in time when you visit. We are not allowed to give zero stars, so one it is. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Talk about a weird and horrible experience. This place was suggested as a place to stay for a wedding that we we're going to. I called to make a reservation and I was told that I would not get a confirmation number, no email or anything. They simply told me to show up. Fast forward to the day of the wedding and I arrived with my family. The outside looked similar to the pictures but just 30 years older. When I walked in to "reception" I walked into a dark room with a gate closed around the reception area. No one in sight. I ended up walking around the entire property, looking for an employee and I never found one. I asked the only person I saw, if they worked there but unfortunately they didn't speak English. I walked up the stairs to see a hallway with fans, dirty floors and just an overall very creepy vibe. My youngest daughter started telling us she was scared and we decided to get in our car, book a nearby Hilton and never look back. This place should be condemned. read more

This place is a farce. They do not respond to your request to book. When your booking day arrives you get a call from them moments before your booking time. They lie about being fully booked when there is no one in the place and try to set you up in a room fit only for prison inmates. I left the place in disgust over the shabby room condition after mulling over the situation since I had driven a long way to get there. I asked for a refund but never got it. Why do I give this hotel 5 stars? I've been coming here on special occasion for over 40 years and I've always had excellent customer service. The staff has always been amazing. The bar was classic vintage and the food remarkable. And the history a story still being told. This may 34th I was supposed to be married in Oregon to the love of my life. But instead the venue for my wedding was canceled and I wanted to come up with something special to do on that day because we had to reschedule our wedding months in advance ahead of us. So I selected to return to this hotel ask my fiancé to marry me for the second time because the first time I didn't have a ring and the second time she would get one. When I made my reservation I talked to Tina the event manager there and she set me up with a couple really nice rooms. Now I have to say I fully understand that they were beginning a major renovation for this nearly 100 year old hotel and had to stop before it began because of C 19. I knew before I made my reservation that it was in need of deep deep renovation and that everything from the area out in front of the hotel to the smallest details in the room needed attention. But I knew that they were working on them. Sometimes it's more about the experience than it is the problems that they're trying to do a work around with. I have faith that they will get to these things in time but the economy just didn't support them at this moment. Tina was very upfront and told me that the restaurant and bar were closed and that they had limited rooms that they could open because of the shelter in place. When she heard I was coming to ask my fiancé to marry me for a second time so I can put the ring on her finger she was all in. What a great help to us the entire time I was there. Tina also suggested that I go out and set up a picnic in the back Garden gazebo where we are surrounded by flowers to enjoy my moment with my fiancé and her daughter who was with us who is also in on this. My fiancé had no idea what I had planned. It was the ultimate surprise. Champagne perfect weather tons of food beautiful people and nap under a shade tree it was perfect. We had our picnic in the garden and a swim in the river our rooms were wonderful and we had a completely enjoyable stay at the hotel. I can't wait until they're fully functional and start their brunches again we will be there. I will be there with my fiancé wearing her wonderful ring and her daughter. I can assume that it will be brought back to its former glory with an event area that separate from the hotel off to the side or you play some more your boat while you are staying at the hotel on the river. Final note. I would like to give a shout out to a young man and I hope I get his name right but I believe it was Jonathan. In the evening when there was no one around Jonathan was there to see do I need for icing towels or anything else that we needed. What a really really nice young man he took incredible careless. Even refuse to tip with a smile. This is the kind of employee everyone should have. Thank you Jonathan. read more

Sorry to say, but please BOYCOTT this business until some new owner can try again. They ruined my daughter's honeymoon. They knew her father and I reserved the honeymoon suite for them for Saturday and Sunday night, with reservations for Sunday brunch as well. I made the reservation well in advance and called to confirm the day before. I was told that all was well. The happy couple arrived about 6 PM Saturday evening to a pitch dark, locked and deserted facility. The gate was locked, and they were not answering the phone...WHAT? A worker finally appeared as he was leaving and told them the Ryde was closed for renovation. Someone finally returned my husband's frantic recorded message asking what was going on. They said to stay there and someone would open up a cottage for them. Are you kidding me? A dark deserted building. Nobody to greet them or provide any service? Wait around in the cold and the dark? No. Just No. They ended up at a Best Western at a truck stop by the freeway. For their honeymoon. After a beautiful wedding. NO. When they called the Ryde the next morning to find out what happened, they were told that we would be charged since we "cancelled" the reservation. What Nerve. How rude. The opposite of hospitality. Inexcusable. They were LOCKED OUT. No Instructions, no warning. You at the Ryde, how dare you. You all deserve to be fired. The owner needs to go away. We do not need your mean spirited incompetence ruining a beautiful, historic place. You ruined what was supposed to be a once in a lifetime treasured event and memory. This place has been on my bucket list for years because of its history and (what I thought was) charm. last night my bf and I checked in and checked out in the same night. I know this place is old Fashioned and run down so I gladly came here with no expectations just to experience staying here for a night. The condition of our room (master suite $150 nightly; the best room they offer) was terrible. For starters we got this room for the jacuzzi tub. I even brought little candles to have a romantic evening with my boyfriend, but when we noticed the water was brown (filled with rust) that quickly wasn't an option anymore. we even Filled it up twice and drained it hoping the clear the dirt out of the pipes, we ran the water for about an hour and it still came out brown. the tile floor was ripped in the bathroom and there was a broken towel rack on the wall. After that we decided to try to watch a movie in bed on the devices we brought (I knew there were no TV's) and the wifi signal didn't reach the 3rd floor, sooo that wasn't an option anymore either. moving on to the actual bedroom.. the ceiling fan to the left of our bed looked like it was hanging out of the ceiling, it also had about 100 dead flies in the light of it. Lastly when we arrived we had to wait in a dark front Office (no lights were on and no signs of life anywhere) I rang The bell for service, said "helloooo" and nobody was there. So I called the phone number I previously Called to reserve a room. I was informed that our room was open and the keys were under the pillow. i find it very unprofessional to not even greet your guests. During our 7 hour stay I did not see one employee in the hotel. Nobody in the restaurant, nobody at reception, no cleaners anywhere. trying to stay here was a huge let down. its sad that we paid for the best room they have and this is what the conditions were. We would rather pay $0 and go back home to our clean shower and tv and snacks. I love how this hotel looks and the history of it, it has so much potential to be a very grand place. I'd give it 5 stars but we did not spend the night, so I can't speak for the rooms. We dropped in to look at it and ask about brunch and got an extensive personal tour from someone who turned out to be the chef (and manager?). It has a ton of history and is mostly renovated beautifully, with more renovations ongoing. The Sunday brunch was excellent, and the price was good. The "Central Valley Chicken" with all ingredients local, including olive oil and capers, was the standout for me, but it was all great. The staff is friendly and attentive. It's more than 100 years old, and some of that shows. If that bothers you, don't go, but we loved it and plan to visit again. read more

I'm giving it two stars because it's a local place. We went for their Sunday Brunch and I was unimpressed. Not at all what was advertised although I do understand that the menu was subject to change. First there is no omelet station, the shrimp were in water not ice and still had their shells on. There was no horseradish sauce with the roast beef, which was chewy. There were no labels, which would have been helpful. The food was always running out. The eggs Benedict once gone, was gone and they brought out quiche. The salads were all right. Many of the dishes did not have serving utensils in them. The dessert table was nothing to write home about. Many of the desserts that should have been chilled stayed out far too long. You constantly had to chase a table runner down to get more water or mimosas. There was a coffee station but they were out of cream. As for the venue, I would like to see a little more glamorous Art Deco and a lot less tired 80s. The place really needs to brought back, it is an historical place. Table runners were so few and far between people were busing their own tables. There was only a single bathroom upstairs, and although there were more downstairs the toilets were on a raised platform which meant they were not ADA compliant which didn't matter as handicap people would have had trouble getting down the stairs in the first place and the railing on stairs needed replaced or repaired. There was only one handicap parking space in front of the hotel and it didn't have a sign, you had to look for the blue paint on the pavement. Actually for the amount of people at brunch there should have been more handicap parking directly in front of the hotel. read more

Mothers Day Sunday brunch was a total disaster. We had 10 am reservations and arrived on time. We knew it was going to be busy but were unprepared for the fact that most of the items in the buffet were wiped out. The eggs benedict, prime rib and shrimp cocktail platters were decimated. They were scrambling to restock but there was no clue when more food was coming out. It didn't matter because the food quality was subpar with overcooked prime rib, runny eggs on the benedict and dry salmon. Then to make matters worse, when they presented the final bill, they told us we had to pay cash since their credit card reader was down. We were a party of 10 and lucky we even had cash on us! PLUS...they said we overstayed the 2 hour/table limit and we had to leave. Well...we had to wait 40 minutes before any food was even restocked on the buffet...so WTH? AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I had the pleasure to experience a very nice brunch on Mother's Day at the Ryde hotel. I was there with a very larger group and someone from our party had chose the location and made the reservation. Our reservation was later in the day but the food was fresh and very good. The service staff was very attentive and the manager was so on top of everything and making sure that the buffet was full and that the guests were happy he even went out of his way to bring more fruit to my table when asked if the station was going to be filed. I probably would have never come to this location if not for the Mother's Day brunch but I'm so glad I did it' was a great experience. read more

We had a fabulous time here in this blast from the past. We wanted a King suite but there was a wedding this weekend and a lot of rooms were taken but we were informed on the phone to check back at 5 pm they might have a room with two queens so we did and Tina booked us for those rooms ( basically two Queen rooms with a pass through bathroom in between) We read the reviews and came in prepared, with a laptop for movie and a game, small coffee maker and stuff to read. We pulled up to the front door and were transported to the Art Deco lobby and checked in after a day of exploring and got settled. We were told the restaurant and bar would open later, so we opted to go down for a bit. We are both so glad we decided to go down for a few drinks we met our bartender David who was also our wonderful omelet maker at brunch the next morning. We had great fun with David and Tina hearing stories about the place. Later in the evening the outside patio area in front there was a nice breeze and we had a fantastic time. Waking up in the morning it was raining and sounded like we were in a rain forest with all the different birds sounds! Had a wonderful time on the delta even walked over to the dock and watched a few boats go by. read more

What a fun surprise on the delta! After searching for hotels and finding that not much is located on the delta in quite a few cities, the Ryde Hotel was a blessing to us! Staff was friendly and they had a same day opening so we headed over. Our room overlooked the delta and came with a bonus room too which was so nice and also overlooked the beautiful waterway. I feel i was fooled by their review-"Voted Top 5 For Brunch In The Sacramento Area!" Service was disorganized and slow. Food ran out fast and refill took forever. We had brunch there last month at my recommendation with two other couples. I have been here several times over the years and it's always been fantastic food. The people that are running it now are very sweet people, but the food is awful. We were there for a Sunday brunch. There was not one salad, green pasta or the like. The only option was eggs Benedict. There were no scrambled eggs. The worst part of it was there was zero beef, no carving station no steak the only meat that was available were some barbecue ribs that were gross and what looks like 3 to 5 day, old pork loin that none of us dared try it looked like it had turned already, I was super embarrassed since it was my call that I even had my friends try this place. I sent a private email. I never got a response to top it off. The owners came in and sat a table behind us. That should've been my clue when nobody was there And proceeded to be delivered hot fresh food while we paid full price 40 bucks and the food wouldn't even be worth 15. The "Sunday Brunch" at the Ryde Hotel was recently voted as being top five in the Sacramento Valley, so we decide to give it a try....... The positive. The bacon was good and was about the only thing to be replenished. The "Neutral". When we arrived, I told the host we had reservations for 12:30 (it was 12:05 when we arrived so we would not have been surprised to wait a few minutes.) The Host looks for our reservation and asked for my name again. I could see the reservation list and clearly my name wasn't there. This caused some concern, but he simply added my name to the end of the list and offered us our choice of two tables. They didn't have my reservation, but got us right in, so no harm, no foul. The bad.... We were told, "Take a seat, the food is buffet style and as much as you want. We will bring the drinks out." We took the table buy the window as agreed. This table had glasses but no silverware/napkins. No problem, I'm sure they will bring some. We waited a few minutes and then left to get food. (I'll get to the food in a minute). We returned to the table with our plates and while we had mimosas and water, still no silverware. We waited a few more minutes and since we hadn't seen our waiter, I went to the bar to see about silverware. As I was asking the bartender, a waiter asked what i needed. I told her we needed silverware and she agreed to bring it to the table. She came to the table with a single set. When I said we needed two, her response was, " Oh I only brought one because I figured you had dropped yours and just needed a replacement". She went and got another set. Ok, now the food. As you approach the buffet table, you are greeted with a selection of breads/muffins. There was an interesting looking biscuit so I asked the employee what it was. He said, "Cheddar and something. Not sure, but its my favorite". Good enough for us so we each took one. He also recommended the chocolate croissant, so my husband took one of those. Further down the line were the salads. I took some Caesar while me husband had the macaroni salad. Next came the warm food. I started with the potatoes, the spiced pears and the tri-tip and eggs Benedict. My husband went the breakfast route with bacon and French Toast (the last two pieces, by the way). He also tried the shrimp since it was the last couple of them in the pan. Conspicuously missing was the "omelette station". The website says they have one, but clearly they don't. Nothing made to order. How was the food, well, the biscuit was so dry, it was practically a dog biscuit. The chocolate croissant was also so dry as to be inedible. This seemed to be a trend with all the bread. Dry and awful. The spiced pears were cold. Given the condensation in the lid of the serving tray, the had started warm, but had been removed from the heat and set on the table. The shrimp was served along with a spoonful of the "shrimp water" which made for soggy French Toast. Also, the shrimp needs to be peeled before you can eat it. The Tri-tip was "fine" not good, not bad, just fine. But, that made it one of the best things of the day. The eggs Benedict were cold and the English muffin was mushy. When we went back for round two, the shrimp...gone, French toast...gone, spiced pears....gone eggs Benedict.....gone. But, they had bacon! We moved on to the desert round. They had a separate table with dessert items. They had cupcakes but they all looked like they had been out on a hot day on a slanted table, everyone had the frosting slightly off to one side. They may not have been bad, but they looked odd so we passed on those. We chose to try the cheesecake and the Creme Brûlée. The cheesecake was fine, but the Creme Brûlée was awful. I'm not sure how you can overcook Creme Brûlée and still manage to have raw sugar on top, but they did. In the middle of all this, we ran out of water and Mimosas. No issue on the Mimosa since they were terrible. Never having seen our waitress, I took the water glasses to the bar for a refill. As we finished our waitress finally came by to ask how things were. We hesitated to answer. She said she wanted to hear what we thought and we told her it was "disappointing". Her said, "the food is better if you come earlier, but its more hectic". Mind you, they open at 10 and we were there at 12. They serve until 2 and I cant imagine what the food is like after 1. She offered to have us speak to the manager but we decided it wasn't worth he effort. She did however take our bill to the manager who comped one of the meals. We appreciated this gesture. That been said, if this was one of the "top five" Sunday brunches in the Sacramento Valley, I would be very afraid of whatever made #6 on the list. I get that this place has a lot of history and is maybe the only hotel in the area but the customer service and experience as a whole needs MAJOR improvements. I called a few days ahead to let them know it would be a late check in and they said it would be okay. I called again the evening of just to check again that it would be okay and the lady that answered said that our room (212) would be left open and the key would be under the table in the room. I thought, okay that's different but fine. When I arrived at midnight, no one was at the front desk (it was closed with a gate) and hardly any lights were on in the lobby. The stairwell and hallways were also very dark and creepy. I went up to room 212, tried the door and it was locked. Tried again with a little more force and the door popped open but there was a couple already sleeping in our room!!! I called the hotel number again and told the lady that someone was in the room and she said "WTF why would someone be in your room?" It was a really bizarre, kinda disturbing scenario and I expected a more professional response. She also said that it was probably a regular guest that just took the room. Then, the lady sent a young teenager who showed up in his pajamas with a set of keys to give us another room (201). I asked the lady to make sure that someone wasn't already booked in our room so that the same thing would not happen to us. Needless to say, we double checked that our door was locked before going to bed (only one lock on the door btw) and put a chair until the doorknob as well. The room was definitely dated but the place was built in the 1920s. The bed was lumpy but we slept okay. Drawbacks of the room were that there was no AC (just a weak ceiling fan) which made for a very humid time getting ready for a wedding, some of the towels provided had stains on them, the bathroom floor was sticky, and there was no iron, microwave, or fridge which would have come in handy. I asked for an iron at the front desk- they had one, but no ironing board available, so we used one of the many chairs that were just sitting outside our room. The first iron didn't work, so we can to ask for a second. There was some coffee in the morning but I think they only offer breakfast on Sundays. So for food, you either had to bring your own or go into the little town about 5 minutes up the road. There was a convenience store and pizza restaurant. We brought some waters and Gatorades but since there was no fridge in the room, we drank them luke warm during our stay. At one point, I accidentally locked myself out of my room and had to call the lady again because no one was at the front desk again and it was gated (at like 5pm). She laughed and said, "Did you lock yourself out of your room? I'm down by the river so I'll just tell you where my keys are." She told me where her master key set was hidden in the lobby which is TOTALLY unsafe and wayyy to trusting of guests! Before I got back to my room to try with the master key set, my dad (who was also staying at the hotel) tried to open my room up with his key (from a different room) and IT WORKED. So there is probably little differentiation between the keys to the rooms so please be careful!! Or better yet, don't stay here!! It gets 1 star for the history. In the back common area on the first floor, there are a lot of framed articles about how the place used to be a popular speakeasy during Prohibition and even had an escape tunnel which access to the river. The speakeasy is in the basement which you can go down to but it's definitely creepy and you get the sense that you are not alone down there. read more

This was below the Golden Corral buffet...eggs Benedict was cold, eggs Florentine cold...no utensils in some of the dishes on the buffet...food had NO flavor....i will never go back. The decor was not reminiscent to the grandeur of the hotels past. So sad. I will spread the word how horrible this place was. So embarrassed that I took our family here for a special day. HA!! The COOK not a chef...did a fine job for a parolee!! They should be fired. Wait till Gordon Ramsay hears about this!!! read more
