    Captain's Quarter (loved it)
    Lai L.

After having missed our first reservation in August, we finally made our way here in September to celebrate our anniversary. There was some misunderstanding in the beginning where I was charged for a no-show, and I explained that I still wanted to visit and that my son was rushed to the ER and I really felt bad for not making it. One of the owners (Rebecca?) was so kind enough and gracious to rebook us and offered a discount for miscommunication. I was so grateful! When we entered, I believe the other owner (Christina?) greeted us and mentioned losing out on money when we missed our first visit. A little off-putting, but I shook it off as I wanted to enjoy my visit. After that, things went really well and the host was extremely sweet and accommodating. There is a complimentary drink upon arrival, which we enjoyed on the deck. We went to the 3rd floor to our room, Captain's Quarter. The room was so clean, beautiful and perfect! This was our first time at a B&B and we enjoyed every minute of it. The morning breakfast was so nice and we met another couple who were regulars. We only spent one night there, but wished we would've booked two as we didn't want to leave. Benecia is such a beautiful little city with so much to do. It's a plus that everything is walking distance so we explored downtown. Thank you, Shorelight, for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable. This is definitely a must return! We were enamored by all the details and care that this establishment put into their guests.

What a delightful place to stay! Right in the heart of Benicia! Our room was cozy and had a great view. You could walk to every thing downtown. The bar across the street was loud and boisterous, but when you closed the door you could not hear a thing. The breakfast was great and fun getting to know new people staying there. Coffee in the room and downstairs too! I look forward to staying there again!

I have wanted to stay at the Shorelight Inn ever since I walked by about three years ago. I was finally able to make it happen this last weekend. It was a last minute trip and I had the choice of two rooms according to their website. I chose the Blue Lagoon Room because of the hardwood floors. I have to say, the room was absolutely amazing! Every detail was perfect, including how clean. The place was immaculate. The fridge had complimentary water. The fridge in the registration area also had several complimentary beverages. Though my overall experience was lovely, there were a few incidents that bothered me. When I first arrived Christina greeted me very joyfully. After check-in she offered me a complimentary drink. I chose wine and after putting my suitcase in my room, I enjoyed myself on the deck. Christina planned on joining me, but then I heard her chatting with someone and then shifted her plans. Shortly after a man joined me on the deck, and introduced himself as Christina's longtime love. He was pretty chatty so I conversed with him briefly. He made a comment that I thought was inappropriate, so I finished my wine and headed to my room. I put on my mask and tried to walk passed him at a safe distance as he was not wearing one. He got up and followed me in. I browsed around the registration area looking at magazines, and he just stood behind me. I felt uncomfortable so I headed to my room. He literally followed me and when I opened the door he commented on how he loved the room as he was a sailor. I said okay, walked in and closed the door. I waited a few more minutes and then opened my door to make sure he was gone. Fortunately he was, but I still felt uncomfortable so I bolted the door. Excited about the jacuzzi tub, I turned on the bath water and thought I'd just relax. I turned on the jets and when I got in, the water felt luke warm. After a couple minutes it was so cold I got out. I decided to just take a shower but the water was cold, even after letting it run for a few minutes. I called Christina to let her know and she apologized. I put on my pjs, turned up the heater and went to bed. Immediately someone sent me a text saying they had hot water downstairs and wanted to check my room. I told them I was in bed and didn't want to be bothered. I was angry and contemplated leaving in the morning. I continued to get up and check the water, it wasn't hot until 2am. I woke up and decided to stay. Went to check out the breakfast and thought it was lovely. Since the guy from the prior night was in there I decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I enjoyed my time walking around Benicia, it is my favorite Bay Area city. I chatted with shop owners and came back in a happy mood. I decided to talk with Christina about her friend. This conversation is what boosted them from a 1 star to a 4. Christina listened to me, she heard what I told her, and validated how uncomfortable it must've been. She said that he's a friendly, chatty guy. I told her it was still inappropriate for him to follow me to my room. She heard me. Christina's customer service was impeccable. She told me she was planning on joining me outside, but had to run to the grocery store. That's why she was gone. I didn't like that I was alone with her friend the prior night, but I decided finish my stay anyway. The rest of my stay was excellent. After another glass of wine and watching the sunset on the deck, I decided to enjoy the jacuzzi. The water was perfectly hot. It was incredible. I decided to check the water after, and it was cold for a while. Christina explained that if two people try to run the water in the jacuzzi around the same time, one will use all the hot water up. It's an older building so I do get that, but the staff need to warn people cause a cold bath is miserable. At least it is to me. I had a pretty peaceful night. I could hear the person upstairs from me walking around, but that didn't bother me. Other than that the room was extremely quiet. Despite the two incidents, and the fact that they use scented products in the laundry, I had a great experience. Christina is just lovely. The place is just gorgeous, very well maintained. I love the architecture and the different themed rooms. The breakfast was pretty good, the fresh fruit was the best. The complimentary drinks added a classy element that I believe a lot of different hotels/inns could benefit, but I do get that a Bed & Breakfast is a different experience. The views are incredible, though my room didn't have one, I could still enjoy the deck. Should I stay here again, I'll come with a partner and choose a room with a view and deck. I know, a long review but I wanted to paint a very clear picture of my experience.

Located at the end of the street where a public shoreline path begins is a large three story wood and stone Inn. I was attending a wedding as one of two best men for my best friend and his uncle checked me in so I can't speak to that process. I was impressed at the spaciousness of the sitting room with its Nespresso coffee maker and to go cups with lids as well as the armoire with full length mirror to make sure I had dressed correctly for a day of taking pictures. The bedroom starts with an air conditioner before you get to the flatscreen tv over the dresser and then opens out to a large queen sized bed which was a bit less give than I'm used to but comfortable. The I noticed the jacuzzi just three feet from the bed in a nook. That was a nice way to relax and get warm and toasty before slipping under the sheets to sleep. There were a few strange tiny brown flakes that was in the water but I'm not sure where they came from. Possibly from a wooden tank to hold all the hot water that seemed to be available but I forgot to ask about it during the weekend focused on the wedding. Finally we get to a good sized restroom with shower and sink which is around the corner from the bedroom so there's no door. The shower has the kind of shower head that simulates rain spread out but I felt they could have been a little more convenient with a small shelf to hold the toiletries that are presented so well by the sink. I noticed later on in the week a line of ants crawling along the shower stall and looking for dry land since it was starting to rain pretty consistently. The continental breakfast with fresh fruits, pastries , cold cuts, yogurt, bagel, coffee and even a quick scrambled egg by christine? Along with some of the inside scoop by the friendly people that hung out downstairs made for an enjoyable morning since I was rooming by myself and everyone else slept in. I was glad I took the opportunity to take a walk along the shoreline the first morning since it was pouring rain the day I was checking out. On the walk down to the pier and back, it was nice to exchange greetings with almost everyone out for a walk although the large number of fishermen were a little too focused on their task. Seemed like every place except for two bars were open after 10pm since there are probably still not as many tourists around due to Covid.

This was an amazing stay! It's my birthday the room and view was amazing. Wendy was an amazing host. Made us feel like home. Many themes for the rooms. Highly recommend you go there and visit. Over the top. I can't wait to go back.

The perfect staycation we were looking for to relax and recharge. I recommend calling the Inn before your arrival and calling them when you arrive so you're not waiting to get in I did that and we didn't wait long at all. I loved the architecture of the building it has so much history that Wendy shared with us. I absolutely loved the ocean view of the Inn I took a lot of photos! We stayed here on 12.21.23 in the Benicia Bay Suite which had the balcony ocean view it was nice and clean. I really liked the sitting area and we liked how it had a mini fridge to keep our drinks cold. Christine and Wendy were both very kind, friendly and accommodating which made our stay all the more delightful and they were easy to communicate with during our stay. The Inn was very close to all the restaurants and shops in the area everything was walking distance to the Inn, other than the live band across the street which they did minimize the noise level at a reasonable time it was such a beautiful property! I loved taking pictures of the balcony and patio area! My favorite part of the room would have to be the spacious tub! Breakfast is served 7:30am-9:30am Mon- Friday which included coffee, bagels, fruits, hard boiled eggs, pastries and scramble eggs upon request it was delicious! Breakfast is served in the downstairs dining area not upstairs. We will definitely extend our stay again and would definitely come back. Thank you Shorelight Inn our stay was fabulous!

We have seen this spot numerous times when we've visited downtown Benicia. Always admired the balcony with the amazing view of the Bay. So, for our 18th anniversary we decided to spend the weekend in the Pink Palace Room (with the amazing views off the balcony). Everything was perfect. The woman who checked us in was super sweet. We were offered drinks (both alcohol and non) and snacks upon arrival. We met the owner at breakfast and he was friendly and personable. Our room was clean and our bed was comfy. The breakfast was just enough with fresh fruit, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, etc. You can't beat the location - we didn't use our car once all weekend. Plenty of places to eat, lots of shops and massage spots (check out my other reviews for details on those). We love the Shorelight Inn and look forward to going back.

Every year we take our mom on a road trip. As we have family in Benicia, we make that our first stop. We usually stay further inland and at a generic hotel which suits our purposes but not worth yelping. Due to Covid we were worried about lodging. My mom discovered this gem, Shorelight Inn. Except for one other couple, we were the only ones there. Our keys were in a box with a code as promised. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor. They are furnished nicely with antiques and other decorations. The beds were comfortable. We slept well. We had a lovely balcony where we sat and chatted while enjoying a beverage. The bathroom in one of the rooms was amazing! Nice, big shower, sink area etc. The Main Street with shopping, restaurants, and bars is within walking distance. Breakfast was great. We served ourselves. Lots of protein! Super yummy! It was like being at home, so homey!! Loved it! Totally recommend!

Sitting at the bar, I couldn't help but imagine the hardworking railroad crews resting their weary heads here long ago, alongside the glamorous, lively parties that once filled the space. The sweet bartender even gave us a complimentary tour of the public areas.

I gave it as many as four stars because everything was clean and I love the character, including the marginally-dilapidated atmosphere, the ancient "lift" (can't really call it an elevator). If you want a slick, polished experience, choose a different lodging. Maybe the "Inn at Benicia Bay" down the street; I had breakfast there one morning and it looked very posh. But if you want a piece of history, I am passionate about the Union Hotel. Things to note before you take it on: The management is notoriously hard to get in touch with before your stay. While you're here, there's someone at the desk during the day within limited hours. But don't expect any contact or action at night. Don't expect calls back. Their late-check-in process was a little nebulous in terms of explanation before the fact, but worked out really well. I came up with adult children and needed an extra bed, but never got any closure on my requests. Not to worry, there were a couple of rollaways in the corner of the hallway with the housekeeping materials so everything worked out well. We tried the jacuzzi tub, and although it started up OK, we immediately regretted it because it sounded like you were right next to a 747 taking off. Then we discovered it wouldn't shut off! I called the after-hours number but didn't get a response. Finally we found a GFI outlet opposite the sink and if we tripped it with the Test button, it shut off the Jacuzzi! That was the only real problem we had. The room was nice and roomy, and even though it was one of cheapest rooms, it had a nice couch and coffee table for meals and activities. Great view from the 3rd floor overlooking the side street and the bay over to the side. The bed is so plush in the Beach Primrose (as of 2025), they have a little stepstool at the foot for you to climb up. If you're marginally athletic you can hop up on it from the side. All in all, very comfy. The town is great. Lots of good food, including the bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Doordash and Ubers available in town, too. Very restful weekend. Read the history on a section of their web site and other accounts of Benicia and Vallejo. Amazing stories, including the fact that it was the site of the State Capitol for a year or so. Lots of ghosts in this town, including in this hotel. You can feel her in the walls and halls. I'm coming back soon to get to know it more.

Our server was doing her best on her own for the entire establishment and we respected her situation. The Gabby's Jolt was merely strong and seemed to be missing ingredients listed on the menu. We ate two servings of bread an do bitter while we waited for the entrees. The filet was tender and seasoned well in addition to being cooked a bit over medium, had a large portion of spinach and mashed potatoes, and came with the same red wine reduction sauce as the mushrooms which we found a bit odd. The minutely seasoned halibut has to have been the tiniest piece of fish we've ever seen served and only had six small potato quarters and like 6-7 stalks of asparagus with it. Overall, we ate everything because of the small halibut entree, but will most likely not return. I suggest the owners have more than one server on a Friday night, For everyone's sake.

Checking in was easy and the front desk staff was very friendly! We were arriving late night on Friday so I had called that day for them to leave a note on my reservation. We noticed their small store next to the front desk with food, drink, and personal care items available and thought the selection was well done (I didn't buy anything from it so cannot comment on the prices). The room was clean and tucked in the back by the parking lot. We were actually able to see both the theme park coasters and our car from our room. Score! Unfortunately, this is where they lose points for me. The options of what to watch on the TV were meh with bad channels and half of them losing signal. The Wifi was spotty and slow, but useable. The bed was soooo hard that I tossed and turned both nights and ended up with a sore back and neck. The other members of my party did too, one of which was sleeping on the sofa bed and commented it wasn't so comfortable either. This is obviously a personal preference, but it is a big deal for someone about to go enjoy the day at a theme park! The walls are thin, being able to hear people pretty clearly in their rooms as you walk through the halls ( *.* ) and when in your room, but we didn't have actual issues that stemmed from this. We ate from their breakfast spread both days we were there. They offered several juices, coffee, premade omelets, sausage rounds, potatoes, muffins, scones, bagels, toast, oatmeal, cereal with regular and almond milk, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and two waffle machines with vanilla or red velvet batter. The food was meh lacking in flavor, but it also wasn't the worst we have had so we were happy it was included in the price to stay. On a side note, Dutch Bros is a literal 1 minute walk from the entrance of the hotel! Blessedly they had a shuttle that ran all day from Six Flags to the hotel which saved us $50 in parking. We had to call when we were ready to be picked up and they were there within just a few minutes. We decided to swim and enjoy the hot tub after our day at the park. It was fairly full of people and one of the cabana mattress covers was ripped up making it unusable, but the experience was fine. There were towels available by the door and the outside pool was heated, but still cool enough for enjoyment. The hot tub helped our sore muscles, but the jets aren't really usable on your body as they are way too strong. Ultimately, if the beds were softer and the breakfast a little better we would have no hesitation returning next time we wanted to go to Six Flags. We may try another hotel next time since those are important, but we wouldn't say no to staying here again. Thanks for the friendly service and clean hotel!

The portions were pretty good. If coming here for food I'd recommend getting here early since food trucks have limited capacity. You're welcome to stroll around the property both the flower farm and the inn side before or after your meal. The parking situation is a gravel lot. So it may not be the most handicap accessible place. We had a lot of fun stopping by Park Winters. They were setting up for a wedding so the inn side would have been closed for the event starting at 1pm. The check also came with a small map of the property for you to keep. This was very helpful in exploring the property. The only caveat is this is the countryside. Wear long pants or be prepared with insect repellent! Even at 10am in the summer my legs were bitten by mosquitoes. (Type O blood. Mosquito magnet here.) I'd like if they burned some citronella candles to help with mosquitoes. The rest of the dining venue was so thoughtfully designed including timed misters (like at theme parks) to help keep the area cool. Definitely check it out if you're curious or in the area.

First of all, I wouldn't expect a tip after the establishment that failed me by not ensuring they had adequate kitchen supplies to keep a Mother's Day up and running. Additionally, I would have added more staff to the day, which would of course be very busy. And lastly, how are we tipped when you comped the bill and walked away, and nobody had cash? We did not ask for the bill to be comped. So for future reference, dear John I don't recommend calling your customers and bullying them over voicemail. You're the problem, not us.

I go in the bathroom to investigate, and find a cockroach as big as my hand just wiggling around on the shower curtain. As my wife puts some clothes on pleading to leave this place, I make my way to the office where I find it impossible to get a hold of anyone. I'm ringing the bell, dinging the door, yelling "HELLO?!" .... NOTHING. Literally TEN minutes of this with NO help. I had to track down the housekeeper and show her a picture and ask her "is this normal here?!" Catherine the housekeeper came to our rescue but had to spray bug spray all over the bathroom to catch the bug, which is when the desk clerk who was "NOT a manager" finally came out of the office . When i mentioned a direct refund, he quickly offered to switch rooms, but retracted the offer once Catherine came out with the shower curtain wrapped up with the bug in it. "So you guys are good then right?" The desk clerk insisted. "No. I'm not. I would like a refund" I said. He quickly dismissed my request with a timid unfulfilled promise of an disclosed "substantial" discount for our troubles. My wife did NOT feel comfortable enough to use the bathroom for the remainder of the visit, and quite frankly neither was I. Also the desk clerk promised us once the room was clean post check out, our $100 deposit would be swiftly refunded into my account which has not happened yet either. Two nights=$180 Unreturned Deposit=$100 Discount=$0 If I could rate 0 stars I would.

Customer service is still (in 2024) as bad as described in the other negative reviews…read more I paid for this reservation in full ahead of time & the receptionist refused to allow me to checkin because I only had a passport for ID. Highly do not recommend. Very poor business acumen & understanding of identification standards.
