The area right around the property has a day spa, a nice little bakery, a semi-upscale restaurant, and a coffee house all within a 4 minute walk. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the price of the rooms is a little steep. We'll likely go back again, though can't do it as often as I'd like at that price.

We came to Shenandoah Valley for a winter experience and took advantage of some of the great winter…read moredeals (all rate 25% off plus third night was 40% because we booked before Thanksgiving) offered by Brookside. Unfortunately, because of our choice of year, we ran into a few problems, all of which were addressed promptly and satisfactorily by the owners of Brookside. And, because of that, we are in position to review several of the cabins! We booked Cabin 9 and battled through crazy DC drivers who freak out over a literal two inches of snow (aside: seriously DC-area, get it together!) Diane in the gift stop called us that morning to warn us of the impending snow and to let us know that if we ended up arriving late, they would leave the key for us under the doormat. Amazing foresight and we really appreciated her call. When we walked into our cabin, the bathroom sink was overflowing and not draining. Turns out the cold winds had frozen the drainage pipes and Cabin 9, being at the end, got the brunt of it. Cece and Bob, the owners, came down immediately and gave us our choice of cabins. We chose number 2, which is a cozy space with a hot tub, angled bed and intimate fireplace area. The second morning, when we were moved back into 9, the water went out over the entire resort just after our morning shower, but by the time we returned to the cabin in the evening, it was fixed. Overall, I liked Cabin 9 best, with its open layout, its great view from the Jacuzzi tub and its numerous skylights. Cabin 2 was cozy and romantic and I liked the layout of the sofa area around the fireplace and the hot tub was pleasant. Both are ideal for a couple, though Cabin 9 has a pull-out sofa and is large enough to not feel too crowded with kids. We also had a peek into Cabins 7 & 8. Number 8 has a full kitchen and two bedrooms and would be great for a family or even the main house for a family reunion. Cece said it is popular for Thanksgiving gatherings. Cabin 7 is a jacuzzi cabin that was intended to be a two-bedroom but instead has a "tub room." If you like privacy for your Jacuzzi it makes sense, however we did not like that each room was separate. The greatest part about the winter? Beautiful snow-covered trees and a partially frozen brook that still babbles underneath it AND the amazing Christmas decorations in each cabin. The usual decor is a bit old-fashioned and flowery, but the Christmas decorations are really fabulous and fun. The restaurant was closed from Thanksgiving until the second week of January. Also, the cabins are really close to 211, which could get noisy in the summer, maybe? But we did not hear much traffic from our cabin, which was next to the roadway. Plus, you can't get any closer to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We hope to return this spring!

They had complimentary warm roll with butter. The main entrees were the crab cakes and bbq salmon. Both came with the goat cheese grits and spinach squash gratin. These crab cakes were huge and full of sweet crab meat and the salmon was delicious too. Entrees are pretty pricey so I would only come back for special occasions. It was a week night so there were plenty of tables.

We had a decent experience here, with the exception of the mildew/mold smell, that smacked us in the face as soon as we walked in. From that, to the loose flickering lights, loose wall outlets, and it not being the cleanest of cabins. We certainly tried to make the best of what i ended up paying $645 to rent out for the wknd of Nov 15th. So much so, we had to go out and spend even more money, for an air purifier... air sanitizing spray... and scented wall plug ins. Just to try and sanitize the air and mask the smell, making it a little more tolerable. So my birthday, our anniversary, and also now engaged/engagement wknd, wasn't a complete bust! Besides the issues with what i just mentioned. What i find to be more troublesome and just plain careless! When i addressed this via email to Tom, one of the owners of these cabins, at email - HotTubHeaven@yahoo.com I never received any response! Not your typical/automatic sorry about yalls experience in our cabin, or welp sucks to be you, nope no response what so ever! The kicker is, my gal Amber has a rare genetic lung condition called alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. So things like dust, certain pet dander, smoke, and absolutely mold/mildew in the air. Is very hard on her lungs and her body! She is now nearly a wk later, starting to feel a small amount of relief. From our wknd getaway to hot tub (not quite) heaven! Disclaimer: My review herein, is not to get any kind of future free stays. As we are not interested! It's also not to get any money back. As funds received should definitely be used, to take much better care of cabins! Nor is it to cause Tom and Deneane to loose business. It is simply to make others aware of potential conditions as these. We swooped in for a last minute getaway for our 25th anniversary--never having known about this area of Virginia--and came away totally stunned with The Shenandoah Valley and its surroundings. We used AI to find this place, and to our delight, Glen Gordon Manor is a treasure that will forever live in our memories. The manor has been under current ownership for about twenty years, and the chef/owner Dayn Smith lives onsite upstairs in the manor, along with this wife Nancy, who did the decorating for the manor. Maddie was a total sweetheart to us upon arrival (and any place we're greeted with a glass of bubbly earns a special place at the top of our list). We stayed 3 nights at Glen Gordon Manor (Sunday - Wednesday) in the Mews Cottage in the Fyvie room (there are a handful of rooms in this cottage). Fyvie was well-appointed and immediately comfortable. The small porch was a spot where we whiled away many hours (both morning and evening). The coffee delivery from the manor each morning was always so nice! If you've read ANY of the reviews here, you'll know that each room is outfitted with a multi-speaker SONOS system which was so clutch! Breakfasts served inside the manor were so delicious, and so filling! Each morning was something a little different--but the formula the same--usually beginning with a bread or scone, followed by honey-sweetened Greek yogurt with granola, and then the main which always featured a farm-fresh egg presumably from the chickens we gazed upon during breakfast. We couldn't sit still long enough to enjoy the beautiful pool during our visit, even though the weather was perfect for it. We spent quite a bit of our time visiting downtown Front Royal and even more time on Skyline Drive doing some hiking! For one of our hikes, we took advantage of the manor's offering of a packaged picnic lunch, and simply loved it. We enjoyed a five-course meal at the very sophisticated Houndstooth Restaurant in the manor, and were totally awestruck. We spent a lot of time trying to decide which dish was our favorite, arriving at a decision of "inconclusive" because they were all flawless. At the end of our incredible dining experience, the chef himself came into the dining room and spent a few moments at each table--what a treat! I overheard another guest comment that the manor has Pappy Van Winkle, why should I be surprised at that?! Wow! The only recommendation we could make (which has nothing at all to do with the Manor) is, try to plan your visit here on a Wednesay-Sunday ... we found that many of the vineyards were not open Mondays or Tuesdays ... and let's face it, this part of the region is wine country so the vineyards are a must! We visited Rappahannock vineyard, which was right up the street. Not disappointed at all!

Just spent a phenomenal weekend here at the Lackawanna and was so sad when I had to leave. The house is cozy and beautiful. The rooms spacious and inviting. The breakfast was yummers and the owners went above and beyond as hosts for the weekend. We stayed in the Charles Suite which boasts a private bathroom and separate room. Perfect for a couple traveling with child or a group having that 3rd wheel. Highly recommend. The B&B is large but only holds 3 rooms making breakfast time quaint. Phil and Sandy, the owners, were fabulous hosts. We actually found a stray cat and they helped us take her home. My dress broke and Sandy sewed up my straps. It was probably the best 5 star service I have had a hotel. There is also a beautiful garden/backyard area, pool, firepit, relaxing porch, lovely sitting room, wine bar, water bar and basically anything you want from the kitchen. By far, one of the most relaxing and awesome stays I've had on a vacation. Highly recommend. Circling back to things to do in Front Royal, here is what we did: Dinosaur Land, Wine Tasting @ Wineries (take a cab from Yellow Cab. Super cheap!), Horseback riding, Skyline Drive, Skyline Caverns, Town festivals, Civil War trails, dinner at Wine and Duck. PLENTY to do.

The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on. The linen were 500 count sheets. The bath had Egyptian cotton towels and robes. The food was good. Our hosts accommodated our being vegetarians nicely. The building is a registered historical place. Built in 1869 by an industrialist from Scranton, PA, it has an interesting story. Phil and Sandra renovated the building over the past 10 years and have a picture album to share that experience and the history of the house. Visiting Front Royal in February limits the activities one can get involved with but we found two good used book stores (Royal Oak and Page Master) to browse through, and a good local restaurant (Element) for dinner. In addition, Main Street has a number of interesting shops and eateries to visit. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the friendly owners, and would recommend this business to others.
