My husband and I spent a romantic weekend together snowed in at the Black Horse Inn. It was truly a winter wonderland. The inn keeper and owner were simply amazing. From the moment we arrived - we were treated like royalty. Breakfast, wine/cheese plates each afternoon in the parlor, reading in our private sun room, classic decor, countless fireplaces.. all of which made us feel as if the mansion were our home for the weekend. Our room "great expectations" - exceeded all of our expectations. You can feel the wood burning fireplace from bed. If you are looking for R&R, this civil war era mansion is perfect. We recently got married in FL but this would have been a great VA venue. Beautiful grounds, large event hall and mansion to provide close family/friends with lodging on-site. The owner also recommended several restaurants in downtown Warrenton and even made reservations for us (Claire's at the Depot). I definitely recommend it. Especially if you are trying to escape DC/city life for the weekend.

I was in Virginia recently and had some extra time so I decided to stay at the Blackhorse inn bed and breakfast. I have to tell you that stepping onto that property was an amazing experience. I learned from the owner Lynn that during the expansion in 1920 to create a hospital the owner imported trees from all over the world. The colors and varieties were spellbinding. Additionally the inn has each room designed differently by the owner. The attention to detail and amazing antiques fabrics and colors were truly one of a kind. I thoroughly enjoyed the attention to detail by the staff exceptional food and the time that I spent visiting with the horses the cat and the fish pond put me in a different frame of mind which I completely did not expect. It turned an overnight stay at a hotel into spiritual experience. I will always remember that 24 hours that I spent at the Black horse inn.

But it was near the door to the outside, so there was not a stopper on it, and it was slam shut, which was not great in the middle of the night. I am a very light sleeper so I do take accountability for that, and the refrigerator made warring growling noise quite a bit through the night. So I did not get a good night sleep which I was hoping for. The breakfast was wonderful. Staff was absolutely phenomenal and help. Teddy was a great help getting everything situated and giving me the information on when breakfast was when check out was where my room was located. It was definitely not his fault that there was only one room left since there were weddings and other events in the area. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was large and the room was very clean which is a huge thing for me. I have to have clean and sanitized. Overall, very good. I think just the sounds is something that may or may not be from the area and possibly age of the hotel that being said I took my pen sleep and consideration. I did have a bit of a sticker shock on pricing. I got a discount, but it's very interesting. How much it cost for a hotel room here. Virginia is not inexpensive.

I love that they grow so much on their land and use such fresh ingredients. The employees are incredibly helpful and nice. The buildings and rooms quaint and nice. The property is truly a treasure. I was sad to see only one swan there this year. I'm not sure if the others passed away but I'd think they would at least have a pair and hope the swan isn't lonely. I saw so much beautiful wildlife and I always feel so much more peaceful when I'm on this property. I don't know if I'll make it back to another conference here but I hope this wasn't my last one because I've cherished the moments! If it is, I hope to just book a trip to visit in the future! Thanks for the beautiful memories Airlie!

We were visiting our family during the Easter weekend. I have been here several times prior with my…read morelocal family including the Easter and Mother's Day Brunches, when we did enjoy our dining experiences in the past. I reserved the 12 PM Sunday Easter Lunch this year for my family of nine for $890.40, including seven adults and two elementary school children or a total of nine. It was raining quite heavily during our drive down. Luckily when we arrived a little before noon the rain had changed to a light drizzle. Needless to say the weather was not good on Easter Sunday. We parked our vehicle. The atrium was a short walk from the parking lot. When we checked into the atrium entrance we were immediately directed to our table for nine. Luckily they had some coat racks so we could hang our rain gear. The bar was set up outside the pavilion. Six fluted champagne drinks paired with peach, pear and pomegranate were available for $12 each. I enjoyed my two glasses of Roget champagne for $12 each. Complimentary canned carbonated drinks were provided to our two elementary school children. The prime rib was decent, but the lollipop lamb chops were too tough. My other family members also complained about the tough lollipop lamb chops. I only ate one. I enjoyed the snow crab claws the most. My cupcake and small mousse were acceptable. We departed before the next 2 PM lunch reservations arrived. The restrooms are located outside of the atrium up a staircase, which was not convenient. Overall our family of nine and I did not think that this Easter Day lunch was not worth $100 per person excluding alcohol. We will not return here for either Easter or Mother's Day brunch/lunch in the future. Also because of the poor rainy weather an egg hunt was not included. I found another yelper Brandon, who attended the same lunch as my family. Brandon immediately posted a 1 star negative yelp review. Please read it for another customer's perspective of the same event. I found that reviews ranged from 1 to 5 stars so this place is not consistent in ratings. The variation in ratings seems to be due to whether you attended only a conference/housing event or other non-housing event such as Easter Brunch/Lunch. You can judge for yourself by reading all reviews and deciding if you want to visit here for an event. Don't get me wrong, but the natural grounds and pond here are quite nice. That is worth your visit. My review is mainly regarding the Sunday Easter Lunch.

"Say you were unable to pay half that. Where would you go?" He nodded grimly. "There's a place up the street called the Rip Van Winkle. But I must warn you... you get what you pay for." There we found an old lady at the front desk smoking a cigarette, her hair in curlers. She clearly lived there, at least part time. We signed a waiver, paid $50 cash and BOOM! were teleported straight back to the 70s: earth tones, wood paneling, plaid blankets, antenna TV, colored toilets et al. Unless you're a total neat freak you're going to LOVE staying here. Sketchy, cheap, cozy, good times.

Pros: * Very nice front desk guy. * Cheap prices ($55 a night) But that's about it for the Pros... We found the bad definitely outweighed the good. Cons: * Our door was broken, almost impossible to open or close or lock. * Our room (121) had a disgusting smell of cigarette ash and dill pickles * Heat never worked, room got freezing cold at night * Horrible insulation: walls were soaking wet every morning. * Shower was disgusting and the bath faucet was broken and always running. * Neighbors were yelling at each other every morning. * Almost no outlets in the whole room. And the list goes on... I would never advise anyone to stay at this Motel, ever. But, if you do stay here do not stay in room 121.
