There were a lot of interesting displays, curiosities and oddities to satisfy the most diehard Ripley's fan. Some were incredulous while others were cringeworthy. Mr. Ripley spanned & scoured the globe discovering the unique and incredible and sharing his finds with the public. His fan base supplied him with a lot of material, as well. The kid and I went here as part of a combo deal on a hot day in San Antonio. She wanted the wax museum but I vetoed that because to me it is not interesting. So we ended up here as part of a compromise. Anyway, we did the Illusion lab first (a different review) and then went to Believe it or not. I found the Believe it or not to be moderately interesting, but for an 8 year old it was not. She likes interactive things and this attraction is mostly reading about the phenomenon. Only when I read her some of the descriptions was she interested, but mostly not. So, I give it 3 stars because it is suitable for older kids who have the interest and patience to do a lot of reading. read more

There was so much to see and do here! I loved how they had so much interaction with everything. Plus, the military discount saved us $20. I was so excited that they honored this! We purchased our tickets on site. The only trouble we had was some of the ticket scanners wouldn't scan our ticket. We had the receipt with us to prove we purchased it. So this place is what I call the " we don't have anything else to do destination" yep! Being strictly a tourist attraction, I still decided to come here with my family, so I got the three event package: ripleysbelieve or not odditorium, moving theater 4d, and Louis Tussauds wax works. We enjoyed ourselves especially in the 4d theater but it only lasts 20mins. It's a bit expensive but like I said this is a once in awhile kinda thing. Enjoy yallselves!!! read more

I actually enjoyed this place more than I thought I would. It's very interesting. Some of the artifacts were awesome to see. You do need to plan some time so you can read everything and take it all in. I think a lot of the negative reviews could have been negated with some planning, but hey, I've been wrong before. I haven't been to the Ripley's Museum since I was 7, and I have to say 25 years later I am still quite impressed! We decided to opt for the single attraction pass to the Odditorium (due to a particularly traumatizing event all those years ago in the wax museum leading to an intense phobia of Shirley Temple, but that is a story for another day...) and for $25 I have to say, you get your money's worth! The Odditorium is enormous and can take up a significant chunk of time if you actually stop to read/interact with each display. There were plenty of times when the "believe it or not" mantra popped into my head, as I couldn't quite wrap my head around the authenticity of things like being able to touch a piece of the Berlin wall or see Lee Harvey Oswald's toe tag...WHY would those things be in a San Antonio novelty museum?? But I guess that is part of the whimsy you experience each and every turn at Ripley's. The attraction is great for kids and adults alike, with plenty of interactive and touch-friendly displays and quite literally something to look at from floor to ceiling. You can expect a few trickster antics along the way, so always be on the lookout! The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5, is after 25 years there were quite a few of the displays I remember vividly, so this isn't something you can go to frequently and expect to find much variance. But don't wait for tourists to come into town to check this place out, it's in our own backyard for a reason! read more

I remember watching Ripleys on tv growing up. It's very interesting and it still amazes me now to learn. During my trip, since my best friend met me in San Antonio we had an entire day planned together and after our cave hike, we decided to do this before one of the yelp spring break main event we had to attend around the area. We got the duo pass which was $3 more when one ticket was around $15. So we chose this one and the wax musesum. Fun facts, quirky stuff to look at, waxed statues, many great oddities, and weird history overall are a few things you can find in this whimsical museum. I purchased the combo pack that included two museums and the 4D theatre all for $35 or so. If you're going with family or friends, this might be the best package to purchase versus buying all three individual attractions for a more expensive price. The Ripley's main museum has many weird facts about certain people doing crazy talents, animals that set records, and the world's tallest man at over 9 feet! I was impressed by all of the history and facts that I didn't know about, and your mind is blown when you read some of the things that these people were capable of. There's about three or four floors of cool stuff throughout this museum, and you'll be amazed. With the kids tagging along, they will love it and get a kick out of cool statistics. The waxed figure museum was nice, but it wasn't all that for what it was. Celebrities, singers, and more iconic people are featured, but I think Madame Tussaud's in Los Angeles is the museum I preferred. Now the statues do look realistic from a distance (which was pretty cool for me), but I would've liked to see a little more to make the museum top notch. Finally, the 4D theatre wasn't all that. It's two movies that are like rat races and the seats move all but a few inches and you don't really feel like you're part of the action. Nonetheless, it seems like a place where you can bring your little ones to enjoy. Because I've been to more decent 4D theatres in the past, and this one wasn't really impressive. Overall, this little museum is nice and has tons of fun history to read up on. On top of that, Ripley's has extended all over the country with various museums, and I'll have to try more out one day. Parking for this place is right by the Alamo, but make sure to come early as it will get crowded on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. read more

I had more fun at Ripley's than I was expecting. The "museum" (not quite sure what to call this place) is larger than it looks from the street. There are 3 floors (with an elevator in case you or someone in your party has issues with stairs) and they are jam packed with stuff. Some is interesting, some is surprising, and some is very gross. But, there really is a lot of interesting items and you learn quite a bit. While a lot of the exhibits may be too gruesome (there literally is a section on torture and punishment devices) for kids, my 7 year old son had a great time. We took a picture with the statute of Robert Wadlow, the nearly 10 foot tall man and the 1400 pounds man. There are several buzzers and buttons to push throughout the joint. So, while a lot of your visit will be you just looking at an artifact and then reading about it, there was enough hands on stuff that kids would not get bored. I am not really sure how much this place is price-wise because they got me for the group of tickets to Ripley's, the Wax Museum, and the 4D Moving Theatre. Those 3 were $30 for an adult and $22 or so for a child. The museum and theatre were well worth it, the wax museum was not. If you can take your time with this place you will really get your money's worth and learn some interesting stuff. Like I said, I did not anticipate enjoying it as much as I did. read more

The wax museum was slightly too loud for me, with the sounds and whatnot but was still fun. Out of the 3, I enjoyed the museum the most. It was really cool to see all the neat things and it had a few interactive stuff for anyone to enjoy. I wish there was more, but there is a good chance I simply overlooked a few. We went through the haunted house and the tomb raider ride I couldn't find the separate attraction so I'll leave my review here. We bought the two package for the two events that we did the haunted house was pretty scary and lots of fun I love that they take a picture of you throughout the tour makes for a fun keepsake the actors were all very good and the house is decorated immaculately we always love to go through the haunted house when we come to San Antonio. The tomb raider ride is lots of fun I like that it's interactive and also like that you get a picture afterwards also a great keepsake inside you get to shoot laser guns and play against your partner in the cart the ride is pretty short for the price but the decorations and atmosphere inside make up for it. They also have wax hands that you can make as keepsakes and have a snack bar inside that has beer and wine based margarita. I would definitely recommend trying the tomb raider ride and the haunted house! read more

My wife and I visited the gift shop with our 5-year-old daughter. Dealt with a pretty lazy and rude staff member that I believe is the manager. The whole time we're in there she was whining about some boyfriend drama at some dance and about fast food. My daughter and I found a small unicorn squeeze toy in the $.99 area that was ripped so the inner squishy portion came right out. We saw her do it and we were planning to buy it anyway because she really liked the squeeze portion. Besides being ripped, it also didn't have a tag on it, so they went to try to find a tag for a similar item to ring it up with. During that time it seemed like my daughter had pretty much lost interest (typical kid), so we decided just to put it back instead. They tried to say that we would have to pay for it since we had "clearly ripped it", but then said they would just damage it out. It's really the rude/accusatory comment that struck me. We paid for our other little toys and left but I just couldn't believe how crappy an operation it was. Complete honesty, the museum was pretty average. They had a couple of interactive exhibits that were fun and they had some interesting sections. However, and a BIG however, it was WAY too expensive for what it is. There's a combo pack where you can go to three of the museums and even that is overpriced. The computers that displayed games and factoids had a 50/50 shot of actually working and some of the interactive stuff was broken (drumsticks at the very beginning). Tomb Raider was the only highlight and even that was glitchy (it's a laser shooting type game with a slow moving cart on a track). Overall, there's better stuff to do downtown than those attractions, but if you got nothing else to do it's a slightly overpriced hour-ish of fun. read more
