I took a chance and I'm glad I did. I called about coming in the same day. I spoke with Yvette who told me when I could come in. Yvette evaluated my hair and quoted me a fair price for what I wanted based my hair length. It's nice when you can be quoted a price for everything up front and there are no surprises. My hair came out wonderful, it was definitely one of the best blowouts I've had. It was giving relaxer lol. Yvette even joked about making sure not to get my hair wet. My press LASTED and my hair successfully reverted, so no heat damage! I'll definitely be returning!

I think she even used some shampoo after my deep conditioner. 2. I brought in a luxury brand of shampoo and she used HALF the bottle even when my hair became over saturated with product. (Less is almost always more with hydrating shampoos) 3. She kept referring to my hair as short and it's not...I thought that was weird, inaccurate, and off putting. 4. They often will use a flat iron (or try to use it) even if you request the opposite. 5. The price varies even if you always do the same service. Sadly, I just can't win with salons in the dmv. It just seems like dealing with hair envy and stylists who do what they want and not what you ask is the norm out here. True bummer here because most salons (esp luxury salons) no longer do roller sets. I will say my hair is so tangles after roller setting here. I wonder if it's because they've (not so secretly) used shampoo to wash out my hydrating conditioner. Also, when I wrapped my hair and took it out...it didn't even look like I had my hair done! The stylist did not formally consult or examine my hair to tell me what she thought I needed she just started shampooing me right away after quoting price. She didn't even tell me her name or ask me mine. Or even ask if I had sensitivities and scalp problems. The lady washed my hair about three times and the scalp massage was rough and unbearable to a degree. She had very STRONG hands, uncomfortable if you aren't used to heavy scratch on your scalp. But it felt like it relaxed me I guess. No salon grade products were used on my hair... and the brand was unclear or not the actual brand used in the container. so it's unclear what they are putting in your hair. When she rolled my hair without styling product so frizz was not tamed and rollers weren't neat. So I am unsure how my hair came out bone straight. When wet the stylist comb my hair without fine tight comb from the ROOT instead of the ends and I could feel my hair snapping. Which is a big no with ethnic hair you have to detangle first with wide comb first. So the stylist did not detangle curly/ mixed ethnic hair properly. Which is shocking as this is a Dominican salon that should know how to deal with curly/ wavy hair texture. Not sure if I will go back due to lack of transparency and care around what was used on my hair. Which is a major concern.

It's easy to tell where the salon ends (right after you walk across the TV playing Univision) and the barbershop begins (video games being played, random Caribbean guy selling perfume out of a backpack, life lessons being tossed about in a nonchalant manner). If you've ever walked by, especially on a Friday or Saturday, and wondered why there were 18 males waiting in a quote-unquote Dominican salon, it's because of the quality work done by the resident barbers. These dudes aren't just schmucks with clippers, they're masters of the craft. Every detail of your haircut is considered, details you haven't even thought of yet. You might wait a little bit, but you'll leave feeling like your shape-up could cut diamonds. These are not one-dimensional barbers, either. Straight hair, curly hair, almost no hair, white, black, Latin, Jewish, Cajun, Ancient Egyptian, it doesn't matter, you'll get cut. I know at least John prefers appointments, but feel free to walk in, though you might sit for a while. If you've got nowhere to be, who cares?
