Then I drive over, park in DTSS, go in... and they cancel it all together! I thought they were kidding but no. My experience at Spa Mesu was exception from the moment I stepped in the door. Mesu warmly greeted me and offered a beverage. I was given a Spa Mesu gift card for Christmas 2021. Unfortunately, when I reached out to book a facial I was told that right now they were only offering hair services (Covid-19). However, Mesu was amazingly accomodating and said that she would happily send me a check for the amount of my gift card so that I could find a facial service elsewhere. With one exception, this was the best haircut OF MY LIFE. I am going on 10 weeks since the cut (going in this week). It was a gorgeous cut and grew out beautifully. When I pull it into a ponytail, it STILL looks like the ends were just cut yesterday. I was referred to mesu by my dentist, and holy crap am I glad I listened. This woman is a true artist. She sized up my hair, asked me in depth questions about the look I wanted and how I'd be planning to wear it...and she went to work! She layered and snipped and shaped, and then washed, and went through it again...doing one last round of angling and texturing my bangs again when my hair was dry again. It was the most thorough, careful haircut I've ever had. I don't think I had one hair even a centimeter off. And...there isn't anything I can even say about the color...see the pics for yourself. All I can say is I received more compliments over the last two months than for all my cut-n-colors combined. Be prepared to be in there a good two hours easy for cut and color....she does NOT rush you...and she keeps trimming until it lays and falls and swings just right. I originally came in on a Saturday around 2pm as a walk-in. They were unable to accommodate walk-ins because there was only one stylist that day. So I made an appointment, something I never do for hair. I'm the type of person who really only wants a haircut with no shampoo or blow dry or anything, which is apparently odd. But I made an appointment for the whole thing because i was in need of pampering. Mesu, the owner, did my cut, shampoo, and blow dry. We had a really good conversation, she offered me hot herbal tea, and she gave me a fabulous little scalp massage during the shampooing. I felt as if all the weight of the world was melting off me as she massaged my head. Mesu is very knowledgeable about hair and I received probably one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. She cut my hair while it was dry (before the wash) which is something you don't often see. And a plus, we were the only ones in the salon so you really feel like you're being personally taken care of. I left feeling glamorous and pampered!!! A bit pricey at $75 but I think I'll definitely be back just because the customer service by Mesu was absolutely amazing. read more

If you want a pixie cut, come here! I wanted to chop off my shoulder length hair into a fun pixie cut for the summer. Mesu was awesome about adapting the pictures I provided into a cut that suited my face and my wavy hair. She spent some serious time focusing on how my waves laid and making sure I ended up a cut that looked amazing with almost no styling needed. My 4 stars go to Mesu herself. Knowing my love for massages, my friend gave me a gift certificate to Spa Mesu. Although they list massages in their services, they never got a person in a year. Finally, Mesu kindly extended my gift certificate, and as the extension was about to expire I gave up and decided to get my hair done instead. I got coloring and haircut by a stylist that I cannot remember the name of. She was supposed to color my hair in a simple brown, and instead gave me orange roots. Her explanation was the heat of my scalp. Mesu noticed as I was talking to her and told me to come back. She fixed my hair free of charge and apologized. She is a wonderful lady but probably needs to revise her list of services and be careful with the stylists she hires. read more

I went to Spa Mesu looking to get a balayage done and it will be a decision I will regret for the rest of my life. DO NOT GO HERE FOR A BALAYAGE! After spending 9 hours at the salon, and having dye continuously added to my hair to "fix" the initial dye job, my once healthy hair is damaged beyond repair. I ended up having to dye my entire head of hair a color similar to my natural color just so I could walk out of there looking slightly presentable. The reason I was getting my hair done was for my wedding that is happening in a week and Mesu completely ruined my hair. I will not be back and I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was excited to come here after reading other reviews. I asked for the 50$ shampoo, cut, and blow dry advertised online and explained I wanted some longer layers and a trim. The description of the service is misleading, it's $50 to have a shampoo and a hair cut. It's $25 extra to have your hair blow dried with a round brush. At the end of the experience my hair looked nothing like the image I showed the stylist or what we verbally agreed on. It's the worst layers I've ever had. To her credit, the stylist tried to make the cut look better and eventually used a round brush on my hair (free of charge) because it looked so bad. read more

I needed Spa Mesu and didn't realize it until I sat and relaxed while drinking Ethiopian coffee (cinnamon, cloves, etc infused) and let Mesu treat me well. My cut is quite short, spiky, and unusual - Mesu had a blast with it - even telling me how she's seen me in the neighborhood and had admired my hair and look. Aleesha did my manicure and Rashida did my facial. Loved it! Ambiance: Very relaxing, spacious, and clean. The manicure was so nice! They have an ok selection of colors to choose from and the entire process took almost (if not more) a full hour. Aleesha was absolutely amazing. She was very knowledgeable about nail care, took her time, and gave me some really good nail maintenance tips. I will definitely be back to see her! My hour long facial was also a great experience. Rashida was very gentle and gave me a skin analysis and some helpful recommendations for my skin type. My skin looked great and it still feels awesome. Sidenote: They offered tea or coffee and the coffee was a cinnamon and herbs blend and it may have been the best coffee I've ever had. You have to try it! I went to Spa Mesu and Consuelo took care of me last Friday. I was not sure if she was able to help me cause my hair was a mess thanks to my last visit to a different hair salon where they burnt my hair. My head was divided in two sections, up my real color and down an ugly white-yellow-ish blond. It was breaking and falling off. Consuelo colored the blond-ish part and added some thin highlight on the top, cut a bit (couple of inches maybe less) and the result was amazing!! She really did a great job, even the boss was surprised of the final result. The price was a bit high for me, but taking into account all the work and the results, I found it fair enough. I highly recommend this place. And I am very picky choosing the person who is gonna take care of my hair, so I would not recommend any bad stylist to anyone. SPA MESU IS THE BEST!!! Décor/ambiance and classy touch. The energy and atmosphere is superb...soothing music. I drive by the salon/spa frequently and I always had meant to google this place. Since 2014, I had read reviews and visited the website...and kept telling myself I was going to make an appointment. FINALLY!!! 2015: I contacted the salon on July 18, 2015, to schedule an appointment...I was able to be seen the same day at 2:30pm. I arrived 20 minutes before my appointment and when I walked in the energy was beaming to me...positive reinforcement, beautiful paint colors, lavish décor, beautiful art on the walls..white hand towels in the restroom I was REALLY impressed with the clean atmosphere and clean salon/spa. I was greeted by the receptionist and she offered me tea, coffee, or water...I chose the water and remind you it was HOT out there today. The receptionist came back with my water in a glass...NICE...I was impressed again. She had me complete a questionnaire in regards to your skin/nails. I apologize to the receptionist, I did not get her name but she was very polite and nice. She informed me that Tasha would be with me shortly... Ms. Mesu (owner) greeted me as well and told me that she was the lady on the phone that scheduled my appointment...I remembered her voice...she was so pleasant on the phone as well as in person. She informed me that Tasha would be providing the service for my Manicure/Pedicure. While I was patiently waiting...I kept looking at my feet thinking that they were WAY OUT DATED! My feet were tired some swelling and who knows what else. Just a few minutes later...I was greeted by Tasha (Nail Technician)...her smile and warm embrace was welcoming...I went in with rough...cracked feet, yellow bleached toes from cheap quality nail polish that had made my toe nails so hard and yellow and even cracks on my toe nails. My heels were rough, janky, cuticles were damaged and down into and under some of my toe nails...my feet were tore down...all jacked up... WOW, wow, wow, did Tasha not take my feet back to brand NEW! It was like she gave me new feet..my feet are soft now, nails are clean and immaculate conception...toe nails are so pure and white...just like they are supposed to be and look. I truly tell you she takes her time and she is a creative masterpiece in what she does. She applies the nail polish like an artist...smooth bright radiance colors and nails polish and feet on are point. NO DOUBT! Manicure is top notch...this is top shelf here! I've been driving by Mesu forever, but I stopped in for the first time yesterday when I needed my eyebrows done (or really, repaired) for a photo shoot. Paige is WONDERFUL - precise, communicative, and very, very sweet! Made my poor overplucked brows look like they belonged to someone human, and told me I could stop by for complimentary spot plucking in between waxes. Also, Mesu is really gorgeous inside. Where to begin... I originally came here for a waxing with Paige. She's an absolute delight and very professional. The room where she performs services is clean, quiet, and essential oils infused! Paige knows a lot about holistic medicine which was a pleasant surprise. She's a great conversationalist if you like to talk during your appointments but would also respect your privacy if you're on the shy side. My service was exceptional; she didn't miss a single hair and really took her time. You can tell she pays attention to detail. I came back again because she did such a wonderful job the first time and received the same exceptional service as the first time which is so rare to find. The second time I came back I also had my nails done by Tasha. BOOK HER ASAP of you live in the SS area. Just, wow. It's the best manicure I've ever gotten. I seriously don't know how she did such a great job but she thoroughly impressed me. My manicure lasted well over 2 weeks without chipping and as someone who uses my hands a lot I was impressed. I have been going to Spa Mesu for about five years now, and I absolutely love it. Of course I love it for the obvious reasons- there is a great laid-back-but-relaxing atmosphere, the head massage while shampooing is great, and I always get a great cut (I have seen Mesu and Consuelo) at a totally reasonable price (my cut and shampoo today was $45), but I also love it for a few reasons beyond that. First, it is locally owned by an absolutely wonderful woman (as you may guess by the name, Mesu is the owner). It is also incredibly convenient (walkable from my house and the silver spring metro), and offers free cuts to people going in for job interviews who can't afford to pay. All of these things combine to make me proud to be a long time Spa Mesu client. I highly recommend heading to Spa Mesu for your next service! I am looking forward to trying their skin and nail care soon. read more

Begrudgingly writing this review because I'm selfish and I want to be able to get appointments but for Mesu I have to. Mesu is the sweetest little lady you ever want to see. She's always smiling, always welcoming, always cute. She's the type of woman you want to grow into as we get up in age. Oh and she runs a fabulous business! Located on Fenton street right in the hustle and bustle,but when you want in the place is quiet and still. You totally forget about that traffic that can be backed up on Fenton or nearby Georgia ave. You're always welcomed with a smile and great beverage options: cranberry juice & ginger ale combo, herbal tea (ridiculously good) or water. I've come for hair service before and Consuelo is great. They also use a great bowl to wash you hair where you tilt your head slightly back instead of almost breaking your neck to put your head deep down in a bowl. If you have a medium to large head like me, you really can appreciate this. What I come for most often is Ms. Tasha for a manicure/pedicure. Tasha has really changed the way I do things in terms of nails because she's fabulous and knowledgeable. You see I used to be a cheap skate, scurrying the town for that $25-$30 mani/pedi deal where yes I leave with freshly polished nails but the experience is less than relaxing. One trip to Tasha in August of 2015 based on a glowing review from another Yelper and I have not deviated from her since. The mani/pedi is affordably priced, more than the run of the mill nail salons, but the quality is like NOTHING I've ever seen before. One pedicure from Tasha and my pedicure lasts a month (not kidding). More importantly Tasha is actually concerned about the health of my nails. She strongly suggested that I go without polish on my toe nails, including clear polish, during the winter months. After several months of her mentioning this and detailing the importance for health reasons I did it- no toe nail polish for the first time since high school! The struggle was real but I saw the results for sure. My nails have never been longer or stronger, like ever, and I'm obsessed with my nails. Tasha uses high quality products, is meticulous when it comes to detail and is a pleasure to talk to. I look forward to seeing her every month because she's so sweet and really talented when it comes to healthy nails. This was a pleasant surprise. I only found out about them via spa week and I'm glad I came. It's a peaceful full service salon (massage, nails, wax, facial, hair). The atmosphere is nice and clean with soothing music. I got a full body massage (very relaxing, the pressure was not to hard, the room was pretty quite, I wanted to fall asleep) and a mani/pedi (equally awesome, my feet feel super smooth they were rough going in) I also got a paraffin treatment which helped. I went to Salon Mesu because it is close to my house and received good reviews. My haircut was with Consuela who didn't talk at all, but that is fine with me. I asked her to cut my hair shorter in the back and longer in the front at about chin length. She seemed to have been confused and gave me a mullet. Not only did I have a mullet, but she cut the mullet differently on either side of my head! It was two different haircuts. I didn't completely realize this until I went home and inspected it. I called Salon Mesu and asked if I could please come back in and have it fixed. They were very nice and Consuela attempted to fix it, but to no avail. At least it was a little more even between the two sides and the mullet wasn't as drastic, but it was still uneven and not at all what I asked for. After my cut, if I feel pieces need extra trimming, she is willing to listen to me, and give me the perfect haircut I want.
