A previous technician had immediately told us we needed a completely new unit because ours was old. Sergio was honest and told us that wasn't necessary. Long, nightmare story as short as possible: 5 years ago, Monarch replaced my 3.5 unit that failed…read moreafter 14 years with a 4 ton unit, knowing my ducting system couldn't support that unit. So now after 5 years, my 4 ton unit is failing and my ducting system needs to be replaced. They wanted to charge me $23,000 for the work, while Albritten did the job (quality work, btw) for their initial quote of $13,000. When I asked Monarch to at least cover the damaged parts to the unit that will likely fail in the coming months due to their error (not including the expensive damage, like the damage done to the compressor), they said they would charge $4,500. Albritten's quote for the same work was $2,500. (I hope you notice the pattern. Lower quality work for so much more money.) I asked that they do the work for free, given the obvious scam that they imposed on me and my family (which doesn't even get into the fact that Monarch could have potentially burned down my house by splicing a 10g wire into an 8g wire that led to a 40 amp breaker), and Monarch explained that (because I'm such a "valued customer") they would only replace the damaged parts for free if I allowed them to replace the ducting system (the price of which at this point had been reduced to $16,000, STILL a few thousand more than Albritten was charging to remedy Monarch's damage). During my last conversation with them, they told me that a 3.5 ton unit couldn't possibly work on my 1,750 sqft house, even though the prior 3.5 ton unit not only worked with the ducting system I had but lasted 14 years. Furthermore, the day after they were supposed to clean my unit, it was obvious that my exterior coils had not been cleaned. When I brought this up, Monarch said that such cleaning was included in a different yearly cleaning package that I was only made aware of when I brought up the issue. If you are a potential customer, please listen: Monarch has at least one other complaint with the BBB for the same issue, and the accusation is that they did this knowingly in order to secure a future job of replacing the ducting system. I intend to file a complaint as well. It is obvious that the company cares only about upselling, over-pricing, and less than the bare-minimum for regular maintenance. If you want to go into tens of thousands of dollars of debt and be met with only excuse after excuse, then sure, I recommend them.
