If someone told me last year that I'd be mountain biking in 2020, I would've said no way. My bro kept asking me to try it, but I had zero interest. Since my gym delayed its opening, I thought I'd go once to humor him. That was a month ago and now I'm the one bugging him to ride. I like weaving between the trees on winding dirt trails (contemplative) interspersed with technical trail features (slight challenge). Bro will call out that it's getting "tetch-nical" and I laugh. I think one day we'll just shorten it to "tetch." He knows a bunch of different locations to ride in our area, so he picks the places and I follow, but River Bends Park was my idea. It has 3 levels of trails - green (easy), yellow/blue (medium) and red (difficult). Take a picture of the map at the trail head so you can find your way out if you get lost. I like it slightly better than Bloomer Park because it is a bit simpler to navigate but has more trail features like mini dirt moguls, an undulating wood ramp, and log bridges to name a few (yellow trail). The twisties from yellow 12-14 are what I look forward to on the ride. There are two entrances to the park. The western entrance is at the intersection of Hamlin and Ryan Road. I saw a skate park and tennis courts off to the right along with some baseball diamonds and a tot lot. For biking you can drive down to Patriot Field and it's a 3 minute bike to the trail head. You'll get to go on the bridge over the Clinton River. The eastern entrance is on 22 Mile and is directly across from the trail. The park has other recreational offerings like disc golf, trap/archery range and sledding, but I haven't seen the sled hill yet. I'm still too busy taking in the trails.

I come here for the archery range. Only $6 to shoot for as long as you want. Their hay bales are pretty beat up, so I bring my own block target. No big deal. Open Thurs thru Sunday.

A safe place to run, bike, or hike and it's free? What's not to love? It's sort of a hidden gem that everyone will now know about. Beautiful trails. We will sometimes run from Riverbends to downtown Utica, eat and grab a drink then run back. Super fun! There aren't a lot of rest rooms, and only a few playscapes for the kids. But we always have a great time when we go.

Who says rainy days aren't beautiful?

There are plenty of picnic tables and grills. The bathroom is far from luxurious, I would stay away unless you really need it. Utica does a good job maintaining the park and keeping it clean and safe. Occasionally you will see police presence driving through or hanging out to keep everyone safe. They installed the blue light poles a few years back. Overall it is a great place to go for a run or walk or let the kids burn energy.

2019-09-18. Grant Park. Utica, MI…read more Nestled amid a residential area in Utica is Grant Park. While not the newest or fanciest of parks, its compact and bountiful. Just east of Van Dyke, Grant Park's footprint is bounded by Nancy Ave to the north, Hanh Ave to the south, Deshon St. to the west, and Grant Park to the east. There are two small parking lots, one off Nancy, and one off Hanh. Every time I bring my kids here there are plenty of people enjoying the public space, yet I never have a problem finding a parking spot. This tells me that many are locals, which is great to see that the city's money is well used. The park is not huge, but they make excellent use of their real estate. Amenities include 2 full size basketball courts, 3 tennis courts, two beach volleyball courts, and two playgrounds; one for the big kids, and one for the kiddies. There are also two large pavilions, one by each parking lot, and the green scape is dotted with mature trees, providing green canopies for those who prefer the shade. A walking path winds through the park, and there are a couple of swing benches by the larger playground. There is even a book house where you're welcome to take a book or leave one. The centerpiece of the playground is the large tubular slide. A rare three storey tube slide, which is the primary reason why we come; that and the rare playground roundabout. There is also a Wendy's within walking distance on Van Dyke for those hot days or when you're craving a frosty. All in all, don't let this mature park fool you. It packs plenty for all ages in a small footprint and would serve any community well. Whether you're looking to get active; improve your skills at Basketball, Volleyball, or Tennis; or simply looking for a relaxing day at the park, Grant Pack can accommodate. I'm definitely a fan, 4 stars. If you would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... See you on the swings!

I liked looking at the sculptures at the front of the park. They add a nice touch as you're walking along. They're for sale too if anyone's interested in purchasing these cool looking works of art. A must visit whether you're a family looking for children's activities or wanting an area to sit and enjoy a picnic lunch or someone who wants to enjoy a walk on the trail. The park is well kept and clean which gets a high mark from me because I enjoy not only walking along nicely landscaped trails, but taking in the surrounding scenery. There weren't any games in play when we were walking, so it was a quiet and serene walk. But there's plenty to do and see for all ages including being a spectator in the stands for baseball games or sitting on chairs and watching soccer games. This I'm sure will become one of our favorite places to walk and enjoy for years to come. I won't take away any stars, but I will say, that I wish people would pick up their pet's waste along the trails, as we almost stepped in a couple of them. They supply the bags if you forget to bring your own, but please don't let your pets do this on the trail and leave it for others to step in. Also, this is the second park where the soccer teams or spectators are leaving their empty bottles and or trash behind on the grass instead of picking up after themselves when the games are over. So as a gentle reminder, whether you're a player, parent or coach--- keep our parks picked up and clean for everyone to enjoy. It only takes a minute to do your share.

I suggest calling the day before to check the hours before coming. We tried to walk the trail while waiting and it was closed due to flooding in the clinton river. We saw that the beginning of the trail had a massive puddle and the grass was flooded too. We would love to come back to check that out. We went inside at 12pm. One staff member was very nice and opened the door. We saw some turtles on the pathway. We went inside and saw a giant tank. There was fish, turtles, snakes, and more. There was a little play area as well with a race track, books, bones, and toys. My kids had a lot of fun running around and looking at the different tanks. They had a cute little seed station too which I thought was awesome. They had some interactive areas, one where it tells you to count the rings of wood and another to guess the wood type and smell of the item. I think this is perfect for young toddlers. I do believe older kids would love it as well. We will definitely be back with the kids and check out the trail.
