They're both located in the front near the park map, restrooms and basketball courts. There's also a tree near the playground where you can paint a rock at home and set it around the tree. This park is bustling at times during soccer and baseball seasons. With 2 play areas, a couple of covered pavilions offering shelter and shade and indoor restrooms in the front of the park, this is a perfect spot for small gatherings. There are two large grassy areas near the baseball diamond and in the soccer field where you can fly kites, or run with your pet or play any other activity. This is a park the whole family can enjoy with plenty to see as far as plants and trees and animals such as squirrels and birds and rabbits and we've even seen a couple of ducks. When you're in the wooded area walking the path, you forget for a few moments that you're in the middle of the township because it's so peaceful. Come and enjoy whether you want to take a few moments for yourself or have some quality family time. Hope to see you there!

Turns out construction had Clinton River road shut down in the area of this park and honestly it didn't seem like any great loss. I mostly wanted a return visit mainly cause this place wasn't all that memorable apart from the bugs being really bad. I've taken to rolling with bug spray in my ride and thought I had applied it pretty liberally but the mosquitoes were still just feasting on me. I posted some pics of here last year but never bothered to review it til now so you know, what does that tell you? The trails here go quite a long way actually but aren't delineated well at all so it's hard to tell if you're on a trail or not. I mean, the park is a long winding strip of land that basically just follows the river so the trails usually do the same but sometimes they just peter off or look like they branch off in one direction or another with neither looking adequate. Canal Park is a little respite from endless suburbia but if you can drive aways Dodge Park is much nicer with a similar Clinton River setting and less voracious insect life. I kind of envy the person who came here in February. They did say it was a pretty warm day for then so I don't imagine there was a pretty blanket of snow over everything but a winter hike here does sound somewhat appealing. No bugs then! Construction should be done by then, too. If I'm out here when snow makes it look like a winter wonderland I might just give Canal Park another shot.

Also, right off the pathway I saw tons of poison. If someone was walking towards us, we had to scoot to one side but I did not step i to any of the grassy areas because of all the poison. Another major issue was the tons and tons of mosquitos biting us all over and our dogs. If you do decide to walk through the trails, be sure to pack some spray with you. Another issue we had when we came was this young couple swimming and they had their dog with them. They did not put their dog on a leash. It ran and jumped out of the brush and tried to attack both of my dogs. The couple were too busy making out and didnt even try to grab the dog. Just be aware of your surroundings.

Rosie's is probably the best park on the east side…read more They have a BMX dirt trail, including a halfpipe for bikes and skateboarders, a 1 mile paved walk/hike/bike trail, restrooms, and a skating rink that's inline in the summer, and ice in the winter. We used to take walks on the trail once or twice a week last summer. It's a great trail - the 30 acres or so are equal parts field and forest, and the trail goes through both. It's a nice place to get away without having to drive all the way out to Stony Creek park. The trail really is beautiful and so relaxing... Were I to get back into inline skating, I'd certainly come here. The trail, plus that halfpipe really makes it a great place for kids and adults alike to come and let loose on wheels. If you're at all sporty and looking for a place that's free and close to you, this would be Rosie's!

The sledding…read morehill looked fun, they have a bunny hill level for little tykes and the full hill for older kids. I'm definitely too mature for that myself, though. Okay, so I looked around at three local stores and they were all sold out of sleds apart from a wooden toboggan that was more costly than a nearby kayak. I'm blaming that on too many months of quarantine and joblessness. The trails are scenic and more extensive than the map led me to believe. I don't think it's to scale; the back 40 goes on for much longer than I figured. I'm glad I turned around when I did on my winter hike. Come springtime and warmer temps the whole northern expanse was just about the right amount of nature and exercise. I mainly did the southern circuit in the snow and the sweeping elevation changes and the train trestle over the Belle River were just lovely. Some of the trails could be better marked. On my winter visit I wasn't even sure if the park ended at a low clearance bridge where a road goes over the Belle River. Turns out more than half the park is past there and crossing the road seems to be the preferred way to get there, though the troll way seems more adventurous. There's some power lines with mowed grass that intersect some of the trails and it's unclear if that isn't also a trail. I don't think so but I got kind of lost at one point and tried to use that to double back and got caught up in some sogginess. If you stay close to the Belle River you shouldn't have that problem, though. I also wandered through some of the twisting mountain bike trails trying to find my way back. Just judging from being on foot they didn't look anywhere near as fun as the bike trails at River Bends. Ultimately I ended up using the Google maps on my phone to get back to where I needed to be. There's equestrian trails here, too, and a nice clubhouse with restrooms, vending machines, picnic tables and pamphlets for this and other parks in St. Clair county. This is a quiet, laid back park but I don't think I'd drive too far out of my way to get here.

We decided to visit a few parks today to check out the walking and biking paths. This little park…read moreis a five minute drive from our house and I must say, I really liked it. The path is a very nice, leisurely walk with plenty of trees and plants and nature to discover. It also has a couple of bridges to walk over and benches to sit on along the way as you traverse through. There's a nice covered area with benches to sit and relax as you're enjoying the scenery surrounding you on the path. I thought the playgrounds were pretty cool. I love the soft, cushiony surface that the kids can run and play on. Parents don't have to worry about scrapes and bruises! The building for the restrooms looks nice, although I didn't venture inside to see what they're like. There's a small picnic pavilion that families and couples and friends can enjoy. Oh, and they have cool looking bike racks to lock your bike up if you choose! All in all a very nice gem to visit.

Ok so I know this isn't a business, but I still want to review this underrated gem in Eastpointe…read more Spindler Park is a very well maintained, safe, and pretty park with three pavilions, a jungle gym for kids, a soccer field, a sledding/climbing hill, tennis courts, horseshoe courts, shuffleboard, and disc golf. They also have bathrooms in the summer and port-a-potties in the winter. There is a walking trail for you and your (leashed) dog that measures about 1/4 mile (I think). Plenty of picnic tables and shade, and water fountains by the bathrooms. At the if the summer last year I was lucky enough to catch the butterfly migration south and I must have seen a few hundred in the trees beyond the soccer field where the disc golf route extends. It was magical. Overall, a great, safe park to get outside and spend some time.

Spindler Park is a park in East Point located on Stevens Avenue just before 94 on the right hand…read moreside. This park does not have as many features is the other Park such as Kennedy Park but nonetheless it's a great little city park. Like I posted in the photos during hunting season I come here and collect acorns for the deer. They're in the summer a lot of events are held here. Last summer my Cub Scout Pack 1909 had to camp out here I felt very safe and secure and there was even an indoor restroom available to use they also offer a nice Pavilion with electricity if you were to have a family reunions and or picnic here. There's also a nice little walking trail and even a huge pills to go sledding on in the winter if I remember correctly they do have a small play area for the kiddos as well. Nice place to go walk your dog and relax.

The Porcupine Mountains,…read moreCanadian Rockies, the Pinnacles in Berea, Kentucky, Castle Rock in North Carolina and just basic stuff here in Southeast Michigan. Barton nature area in Ann Arbor, the trails at Lake St. Clair Metropark, the E. L. Johnson nature center and one in Livonia whose name is slipping me right now, etc. I wasn't expecting Nicholson nature center to be anything epic like some of the earlier entries on that list. You can tell that by looking at a map. But there's pleasant enough hiking trails nestled in Michigan suburbia. Nicholson might qualify as one of those if it wasn't so damn muddy! I've never hiked such muddy trails. You best wear big rubber fishermen's boots to trudge through this slop or get big mud stains running way up the side of your jeans like I did. It's a nice enough little swath of woods here but just not worth it for the mud puddles. I kind of wish Barrymore's would buy this forest and build giant roller coasters back here.
