Yes, the King roars from his baby Boppy. If you don't have one for your cat yet, you should get on that! :)

I recently moved out-of-state, and will miss this relationship! Dr. Salaguinto and staff took great care of King Francis during his first year (please adopt!) while we were living in Sacramento. The clinic is clean and calm and they're usually right on time. Dr. Salaguinto always took her time to listen to my concerns and address each one during our appointments and would also promptly return calls whenever I had a question. I'm very into natural and holistic health/remedies for my cats, and while this practice is definitely more mainstream-vet, Dr. Salaguinto was open to listening and working with me. If you have cats and want to visit a veterinarian office that's quiet, calm, and only deals with cat concerns, this is the place to go.

I'm so mad at you right now Mom

So far, I am very pleased. I decided to come here because it is a cats only vet, and just the mere sight of a dog will make my corpulent fuzzball upset. My kitty is very temperamental, gets scared at the vet, and creates a lot of noisy, hissing, growling, yowling, fighting ruckus. Picture Garfield from the comic. This is the first place I've been to that has offered an alternative to bringing her in and grappling with her in order to give her her shots and trim her claws. They prescribed me a low level sedative to try giving her next time before bringing her in. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to soon as Kyo needs a follow up test and exam done. She's getting up there in cat years, and will be turning 10 this spring. Usually, she behaves herself at home these days, having mellowed out some in her old age. Bringing her anywhere else is a different story, but I think I'm comfortable bringing her back to River City. Folks here are very knowledgeable without being too judgy. There's still some judgment because she's a huge orange bowling ball, but they mean well. Kyo is obese. I get it. I monitor her food pretty closely, but part of her issue is she has no interest in exercise. I can get her to chase a toy one or two times before she's done. I didn't get the usual huge lecture here, and I appreciated that. Each of my concerns were addressed, and I was adequately prepared with the cost information beforehand. Their top concern is for the health and safety of your kitty, not pushing you out on time, or pushing expensive services you don't really need. I appreciated the follow up call today.

The flurry of responses we've received from the Vet

(EDIT for the 4 (5? I lost count) responses Wendy has made. My first time posting on Yelp, not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't blood-sport level of interaction. We have 3 toddlers so this response is limited to their patience level) I was on a deployment in January for the military, the dates shifted several times and it's true we were forced to alter our cat's appointment. We really tried having her seen as my wife and I both understood the cat's meds would NOT be refilled without it. I tried explaining the deployment/cancellation aspect to Wendy on our call but she just laughed. Not sure how to read that. Actually I have to laugh, I'm not sure how confrontational one can be during Covid, since you hand your pet through a window and everything else is handled on the phone. Plus her front desk admin (Jayna?) is great, and was very sympathetic when I picked up Tigra. The only other person I interacted with was Wendy...it was not a great conversation. But not so bad I would've told her we are taking our business elsewhere. Especially since our cat is not well, and requires constant medication. We did glance at her other comments though (basically: anything other than a 5) and if you choose to do so, bring water, you'll be there a while. If you question her like we did she judges you and well, does whatever this is. Anyway, this has been an experience. To recap: after several years of decent service we were suddenly asked to leave, had privileged information posted here by the Vet to include the cat's medical records. She removed the medical record after I told her to do so (probably illegal?) But the sensitive personal and financial information is still there, yay. Please, read through the other poor experiences, compare it with ours, draw your own conclusion. ------------------------------------------ Original post This review is painful to write, and I have to admit we don't typically review but felt we should. We live in Land Park and have had our cat, Tigra, a patient here for several years. Over the past year we have declined several extremely costly procedures we felt we were (potentially) unnecessary and not financially realistic. Today, after confirming those decisions "Dr" Salaguinto asked us to leave, and we did not argue. I would not send my worst enemy's pet here. I hate the negativity I'm using here, but I'm also trying to save someone else from the trouble we have faced. We got the feeling, once they knew expensive procedures were not possible, they just wanted us replaced by someone who might pay for them. -Tigra's family

My first visit was with my Boston Terrier, Chloe, and today I brought my Pug Sookie. The entire staff and veterinarians are incredibly kind, welcoming, and clear with their communication. The exam rooms have such a calm, relaxing atmosphere, and they take a low-stress approach to handling pets. During Chloe's first visit, they gave her treats while administering her vaccine, and she barely noticed the shot! She's usually very stressed at the vet, so seeing her stay so relaxed meant a lot to me. Both of my dogs have been much calmer at Sactown Vet. I also appreciated the thoughtful welcome gifts, including stickers, a magnet, and a folder with information about the clinic and our veterinarian. It's those little touches that make you feel truly welcomed. I highly recommend Sactown Vet to anyone looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and fear-free veterinary team.

I clearly explained my dog has some sensitivity from past veterinary trauma. During the exam, they touched her from behind without warning, she gave a brief warning response (no bite), and they immediately stopped and refused to continue. The only options offered were: * come back for another paid visit with anti-anxiety meds they never told me about beforehand, or * take my dog to the back alone for sedation/anesthesia to complete vaccines. I don't understand how separating an already anxious dog from their owner, restraining them, and sedating them is considered more "fear free" than a calm, controlled vaccine with the owner present. For context, my dog regularly goes to groomers and is handled all over her body without issue. This feels specific to the vet environment, not general aggression. I later went to another highly rated clinic and they handled her immediately and professionally. She was given treats, a muzzle was only used briefly as a precaution at the end, and she received all vaccines and testing in one visit within minutes--for a better price. This clinic felt rigid, poorly communicated, and more focused on protocol and repeat visits than actually working with the animal in front of them. I would not recommend them.

I've taken my young dog here to get his standard shots/exams, but this last week I took him in for a leg issue that turned out to need surgical intervention. Scary, and expensive news. But the team was so great. Got us in for a same day, after hours appointment, and scheduled his surgery within a week of calling in. Doctor Baum called me personally to explain what was happening, why he recommended the surgery, a video of how the surgery works, and a detailed estimate. Gave me time to process because it can be overwhelming mentally and financially. Staff all loved on my boy both visits - it's a good sign when your dog wags his tail entering the vets office. Day of the surgery doctor called me before and after surgery to check in, and reviewed the results with me. Private Equity firms are buying up practices and hospitals all over the country. I was a client at this veterinary hospital for over 30 years. My parents brought my childhood dog…read morehere, and as an adult I brought my own dog here. When Dr. Nabil Ibrahim owned the practice, I always felt my dog was cared for by someone who genuinely loved animals. Unfortunately, after the ownership changed in 2021, my experience changed. At nearly every appointment, I felt pressured to approve numerous tests and services. What started as a routine visit often became an estimate several times higher than expected. I understand that diagnostics are important, but the way they were presented made me feel like the focus had shifted from individualized care to selling additional services. The biggest concern was my dog's medical care. The first incident occurred after he received rabies, leptospirosis, and parvo vaccines during the same visit. He developed a severe reaction with swollen, red paws and a swollen muzzle, requiring an emergency veterinary visit after hours. I notified the clinic the following day, yet I continued receiving reminders for his leptospirosis booster despite informing them about the reaction and my decision to avoid non-required vaccines. Three years later, I returned only for his required rabies vaccine. Leptospirosis was offered again, and I declined. He was given rabies and parvo together, along with a preventive Benadryl injection. Once the Benadryl wore off, he experienced another vaccine reaction and again required emergency care. The emergency veterinarian told us that, given his history, future vaccines should be administered one at a time to help identify which vaccine was causing the reaction. The final experience was what convinced me to leave the practice. I brought my dog in for loose stools. I was told his diet was inconsistent and was advised to switch him to a prescription hydrolyzed protein diet. I agreed to the diet trial and stool test, planning to pursue additional testing if needed. Instead his stools progressed to severe watery diarrhea. When we returned for the follow-appointment, my husband waited outside for approximately 45 minutes in 100 degree weather with a brachycephalic dog. After reminding staff we were still waiting he was eventually brought inside but waited another 20 minutes before leaving without being seen. Before we could see another veterinarian my dog became severely dehydrated and required emergency treatment. The emergency hospital preformed blood work, treated him with IV fluids, prescribed metronidazole and Hills Biome diet. Thankfully he has been steadily improving on that treatment. I understand that medicine is not always straightforward, and not every treatment works for every patient. However, I believe communication, follow-up and individualized care are just as important as diagnostics. Unfortunately after these three experiences, I no longer feel that this practice is the right place for my dog.

I am disabled, on a fixed income, and my cat is my only family. I was charged $495. When I later obtained the medical records, I was shocked to find no physical exam notes whatsoever--no exam findings, no palpation, no dental assessment, no SOAP notes. Only lab results. I was charged for services that, based on what I observed when we got home, do not appear to have been performed, including a nail trim I specifically requested. There was also no visible evidence or documentation of blood draw or urine collection. Despite no explanation of my cat's condition or prognosis, I was handed an expensive dental estimate far beyond my ability to afford and then shown the door. I was humiliated at checkout after explaining I was poor and hoping I had enough money to pay. I paid partly by credit card and drained my debit account. I was even charged for a can of food that was presented as complimentary. This experience left me terrified and unsure whether my sick, elderly cat was actually examined. I have since filed a complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board. If you love your pet, request and carefully review your medical records. I trusted this clinic's long history. That trust was broken. Stay with your pet the entire appointment. Midtown Animal Hospital is operating on a cancelled premises license which is a violation of BPC 4853. This means that the Hospital is not authorized to legally operate or provide any veterinary services. It's been cancelled for 3 years. How can they still be open? Sacramento is corrupt and Pro Business. They must know the right people. They need to be held accountable.

Sunday a.m. 11 16 25 called Veterinary Medical Center for appt to learn to express dog's urine until her vet was in, got appt @ 3 pm, repeated same issue above to receptionist & Dr. Umar Khan. I expected Dr. to express urine but he never did. He said, "You are only going to be back." Then he talked about xray/labs & surgery that he could do-I couldn't afford that. His next statement completely threw me for a loop."He said she was in severe pn, needed to be euthanized."I had been up 32 hrs, my brain just shut off. Instead of seeing she was not in pn, I took his word for it. The only exam Dr. did was flick her hips w/his finger, her skin quivered. I have had many animals euthanized and never experienced the trauma I was subjected to w/Dr. Kahn. I feel Dr. is incompetent, heartless. I feel he murdered my dog for $648 euthanasia fee. She did not need to be euthanized IF he had followed my request, & the exam/doctor responsibility protocol I had researched after the euthanasia. (his vet tech could have taught me to express urine since since Dr. was in a hurry to get to surgery) He knew her abdomen was distended so he should have expressed the urine, given me Tramadol for pn/Methocarbamal to relax her muscles to express her urine. Research said dogs don't always need surgery, dogs live paralyzed. I had both of my dogs w/me, in my lap, when it was time for the euthanasia. Dr. came @ my dogs like he was on a mission, they began to freak out to the point I was trying to keep them from falling on the floor. Dr. did not stop so I could calm dogs. The dog supposedly in severe pn was fighting like she was fighting for her life she was so scared. It was such a struggle I couldn't even make my mouth say stop. Her head flopped over my arm & her tongue was hanging out. I then realized how the heck did this happen, I came to learn how to express urine. My little girl was so loving, she was my pain support dog, got me thru several life threatening surgeries for blood clots. I take blood thinners for blood clots, aspirin to protect from having a heart attack & stroke & Tramadol for severe nerve pn/severe c-spine pn.. Since I experienced Dr. Khans calloused, incompetent, & what I believe money grubbing behavior, I have had anxiety, HA's, agitation, CP, heart pounding & elevated BP because what happened just plays over & over in my head. My little girl took care of me & I froze, did not protect her from a money grubbing, incompetent barbarian. I keep asking myself why he refused to teach me to express my little girl's bladder, how could he predict I would have to come back when he didn't even do an exam or try to express her urine in front of me? Knowing what I know about human medicine, there is never a way to know what will/won't work. I got a copy of my little girls records, there are many lies, ie: Dr Kahn said he talked to me about vet college in Davis-he didn't. I had a hard time getting the records because Dr. Kahn wanted to go over them, he wanted to email the records to my vet w/out having me sign a release form. The notes say the bladder was hard to express, Dr. told me he didn't express her bladder since she was being euthanized. Dr. states "owner want to know how to express bladder. Pet is unable to walk on hind legs per owner and her regular vet won't be back until Wednesday." he also said he offered more meds, he never offered any meds. Why would I agree to euthanasia if he offered me meds to take home until I could see my vet? There is more in his notes that leads me to believe when he reviewed his notes he also changed his notes. Look @ picture below, taken in Dr. Kahn's exam room, tell me which dog is in severe pain & needs to be euthanized.
