A lot of your loved one's care has to do with you. Do you show up? Do you visit your loved one? I know not everyone can due to being remotely located. This facility loves my Mom and loves her well. They delight in getting her ready for a joyride (thanks Serea), and the staff are so engaged with mom they can't wait to tell my family and me what she's been up to (both good and bad). I have one of their fabulous nurses on text message and can get any information I need about Mom in an instant. They are so responsive and so loving. I highly recommend Grandview Gardens for your loved one's memory care needs and Redstone Village for assisted living. Some advice: be present if possible and be active in your loved one's care this goes a long way. Both Redstone Village proper and Grandview Gardens have kept mom happy and healthy for around 7 years! Thanks so much! This facility is clean and updated and full of activities but If your loved one doesn't want to participate, they willingly go the extra mile to ensure their needs are met, for example, making sandwiches for mom who slept through dinner and didn't eat. This is the type of facility you do not dread visiting. Please consider Redstone Village. It is an entire life span facility from freestanding homes where you have a beautiful view and can drive your car or golf cart to dining or exercise or swimming facilities to assisted living again with beautiful views, to memory care with ample activities, including day trips to local strawberry picking and restaurants to hospice. Redstone Village is the real deal and my family and I are so grateful Mom is enjoying her 88th year on the planet here. My family have visited other facilities in Madison county and mom lived in one for about a year. Redstone Village eclipses all of them in terms of compassionate care, consistent rule following and generally loving what they do. Almost no personnel turnover. There is none of the external (and internal) "flare" of other senior care facilities such as Redstone Village (or even the place I would *never* recommend, Regency) like putting greens, raised herb gardens, floral gardens, water features, extensive walking paths, ice cream parlors, swimming pools, libraries, etc. It may have a library, I did not explore the entire interior. It's about 3 blocks north of Highway 20 on Sullivan in Madison. It's an 80-bed Medicare/Medicaid skilled care and rehab facility. My best friend and sorority sister's sweet Daddy has been here for about 2 weeks and I have visited him twice. He is in a semi-private room sharing it with another man, and they can have the curtain pulled between them for a little privacy. The rooms are small. Each resident gets a hospital bed, a microscopic wardrobe, a guest chair, a wall-mounted TV [there may be one TV per room], and a bedside table. Logistics are not bad! You ring the front doorbell, and someone lets you in almost immediately, there are no long waits like I experienced at Merrill Gardens while being absolutely loaded down with supplies for Mom. You enter the open lobby area [again, very small; however it and the facility are tidy] and are greeted by the friendliest staff on the planet. There's a tiny [size of an old school calculator] check in device where you key in your name, phone number, answer personal health related questions, the name of the person you are visiting, your relationship, and it takes your temperature and prints out a name tag. Although, it feels like the 70s inside, each person I interacted with was smiling, friendly, kind, and helpful! The staff checked in on my BF's Dad while I was there and tidied up his half room. We met one of the physical therapists and she was very attentive and engaged, offering to coordinate a special need my BF had for her Father, with the nurse. The residents were discussing a Veteran's Day visit a group had organized during which they visited, and gifted the Veteran's with a ball cap and a bag loaded up with goodies like moon pies, Cheetos, and snack crackers. This visit was quite the "buzz" of discussion and made me happy! One of his lunches was typical southern food: fried fish, turnip greens, coleslaw and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. BF said the meals taste really good. I can attest the meals do smell good! Do consider Madison Manor if you need their services. Sadly, skilled care in Madison County is suffering a serious shortage in terms of availability and open beds. Don't expect to be "wowed" by the building itself. Do know you can tailor your loved one's room [or semi-private room] with wall decor, personal photos, calendars, etc. The pictures uploaded here do not reflect the room my BF's dad is in or the exterior. Rather than the somewhat inviting single-bedroom photo here on Yelp, the semi-private rooms are more like 40-year-old hospital rooms. Also, there are no exterior seating areas at MM.

The lady in the bed next to my mother says they take good care of her. She is more ambulatory than my mother, though. However, when I got there this morning around 11:30 AM, my mother was soaked with urine: soaked through the brief, the pad, and all the way through the sheet. The smell upon entering the nursing home wing is horrible. I wonder if they are short staffed or lazy? I will continue to update my experience. 2nd day-Staff nurse called before I got there saying that mom was calling for my dad. They tried to work with her, but she was being uncooperative. Her room was cleaner (although my feet still stick to the floor). ALL staff are still helpful and friendly. The lady that shares her room seems to be well cared for. The elderly gentleman down the hall looks as if he could use some personal cleaning. I'm beginning to realize the difficult job that these workers have.

I don't understand and she should be held accountable. My last week with my mom was horrible and traumatizing watching her.

This help was so much appreciated and shortened the process of him getting on Medicaid. When I go in person, all the inpatient people seem very positive and smiling. There is never a smell (as in some other facilities I have been in), patients I believe are well cared for, and Mr. Murphy is always clean and positive. Every other month, they have a health care meeting with me and members of his medical team. It has been a good experience for such a rough time in my life when I suddenly inherited complete care for my brother.

My family's story involving Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation in Jacksonville AL…read more My relative required step-down care from VA Birmingham hospital, as they were not well enough to discharge home - the least restrictive care. VA B'ham approved 30-days of rehabilitation care - funding approved required the veteran to actively participate in daily occupational, speech, and physical therapies. My relative was gravely disabled; unable to meet these requirements. Therefore, after 30-days, the VA denied continued funding under this level of care converting the veteran to another type of funding called convalescence care. The VA agreed to pay for up to an additional 30-days under convalescence care while JHR determined if my relative qualified for Medicaid. On a Friday, JHR's benefits personnel notified VA B'ham the veteran was over resourced for Medicaid. Medicaid would be denied. Unbeknownst to the veteran's family, VA B'ham informed JHR convalescence care would be denied; no further payments would be paid by the VA. On that Sunday, I called JHR to speak with the nurse for an update. The nurse informed me JHR had discharged my relative home, as the RN was instructed by her supervisor to discharge the patient as Medicaid would be denied and the VA had denied funding. I was shocked and appalled by this insensitive action. I asked the nurse where was my relative. The nurse indicated my relative was stationed outside their home address in an ambulance that the driver was waiting for someone to come to the door. I sternly instructed the nurse to have my relative brought back to JHR as there was no one there to receive them, nor had the family been included in any level of discharge planning to ensure that proper medical equipment was in place, not to mention homecare, home nursing, and a homecare sitter to help with the necessary ADL's (activities of daily living). My relative was total care and required skilled nursing. JHR was well aware that my relative was total care when they attempted to discharge them home. The nurse followed my directive called the driver to bring my relative back to JHR. Thoughts racing through my mind, how unethical on so many levels. Upon my relative returning to JHR, the nurse conducted an assessment deemed my relative was incoherent, unable to orient in knowing their name, place, time, location etc. The RN called me right away concerned that my relative needed to go to the local ED (emergency department). I approved to have my relative transported to Springfellow ED. Upon being assessed by Springfellow ED, two ER nurses called informing me that my relative was so gravely ill that they needed my approval to coordinate medivac to VA-B'ham. I consented. Within 2hrs of being brought to Springfellow ED, my relative was on a medivac flight to ICU in VA-B'ham. From JHR having discharged my relative to their home to my relative being Medivac to ICU VA-B'ham was all within a span of 5hrs. This incident was je ne sais quoi (a quality that cannot be described) I was in total disbelief this happened. Such lack of care, lack of empathy, lack of treating residents of JHR with some level of humility, dignity, and respect. The following Monday, I placed a complaint with the state of Alabama nursing facility licensing board - located in Montgomery. After a few days of kangaroo investigation, my complaint was unsubstantiated. However, I was informed that my complaint will forever remain on file about JHR. there are times when care and wellbeing should not be driven by profit. Long-term care, senior care living, families unable to physically care for their loved ones is strained. Very minimal community options. Which places a monopoly for this type of care need. My unsolicited feedback be creative with funding sources. Apply for grants, funding from foundations and organizations etc. Consider additional paths to being paid. I understand JHR is not a charity. However, there are times when JHR will need to attribute beds as charity due to lack of funding for a resident until a safe discharge plan is in place.

Many times she would sit down to eat and the stains from spills were still there. They also store the garbage can where the elderly residents soiled undergarments are disposed of in the laundry room where she was supposed to do her own laundry. When she mentioned it was unsanitary to the housekeeper, she was told that she could "take it up with the owner because he told her she could keep it there." One time when they placed her plate of typically greasy, fried food in front of her and she said she had ordered something else, the dining staff told her, "Oh no you didn't." Just not a place where you want your precious loved ones living. Apparently, the owner doesn't care about the residents and the management has no empowerment to make changes.
