They also have regular excursions out of the facility for lunch, fishing, or shopping. All in all Kauhale provides excellent care for our loved one at a very reasonable price. He had a huge private room with a sofabed, recliner, chair, bathroom, shower, tv, and patio for visitors. The staff was absolutely wonderful-always kind, answered any questions we had, and provided excellent care. There are many sitting areas outside of the rooms in this 15-room facility also, along with a kitchen area and a chapel. A chaplain is also provided if you so wish. Dad was able to stay for 3 days through Medicare, before calmly passing away with his family present. We'll never forget the assistance the staff provided us during his last days, and appreciate the serenity he was surrounded by at the end. We highly recommend this center if you or a family member is in need of hospice. They can also admit patients under "Respite Care" (5 days under qualifying insurance), with the understanding that if the patient improves they will be discharged after that time, or if symptoms worsen, they may be permanently admitted if their insurance agrees. Respite Care includes oral pain meds and other care, but not IV meds (IV meds are only given if permanently admitted under insurance). If paying privately, without insurance, it is approximately $500 a day (in 2026).

Unfortunately, the talk was was great but the follow through was not existent. We had one care giver come out for a visit, who was personable but not a good fit with my husband. Our second try never showed although we has a confirmation email from the office. We never received a call about the no show and when we called the office and asked to have Jeremy call, we never heard from anyone. Needless to say we needed reliability from this service and received none.

Dean Longo at the Norfolk office was unbelievably understanding and just phenomenal to work with. Compassionate and professional. We entered into a contract with HomeCare Assistance on November 7, 2025. My 80-year-old mother is…read moreterminally ill and my 81-year-old father and my family needed some assistance. We felt good about Tommy Anderson during his home visit and signed a contract to begin care on Monday, November 10, 2025. During our home visit with Tommy, it was emphasized several times about their extensive background checks of their caregivers and the contract even went further to say that they evaluated caregivers in other ways, such as psychological testing. The very first night, a caregiver came into our home, whom we liked immediately, but we discovered that she stole four diamond rings from my mother and my father's University of Alabama A club ring. We filed a police report and after 48 hours of me pleading and appealing to this caregiver, she returned the rings to me at my home. When we discovered that the rings were missing, we immediately did a simple Google search and found two mug shots of this caregiver and the police told us she had ten or more prior arrests, and that this company had dropped the ball. She had arrests as far back as 2021 until recent. I was told by Tommy and another employee that they did not understand why those did not show up on their background check. What an insult to my intelligence. Please beware of Home Care Assistance, because they obviously did not vet this employee at all.
