I've had the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast burrito and both were delicious, although the breakfast sandwich is a bit on the heavy side from all the cheesy goodness so maybe try something else if you're looking for something lighter. Coffee is okay - comparable to Starbucks. There is lots of seating inside. Service is very friendly. It does feel a bit dim in terms of lighting. I didn't order coffee from here but I did order a few breakfast items as well as a fruit smoothie, all of which were delicious and of high quality. Especially the fruit smoothie, it tasted very fruity and I was definitely sad when I wasn't able to have any more of it when I finished. I sadly do not remember the name, but I'm pretty sure any of the fruit smoothies you can order from here would be all excellent. One star is taken off because I do find the prices a bit on the high side in retrospect to other coffee shops in the area, but i'd come back again otherwise. First time going to River City. Glad to find a vegan and GF friendly spot. I had the vegan version of the Breakfast Burrito with walnut sausage and it was delicious, I definitely recommend it, very filling too - you can also make it GF. My Americano with soy milk was really good. My partner and I shared the GF DF morning glory muffin, not too sweet, I really enjoyed it, my partner would have preferred it without the pumpkin seeds in it. I stumbled across this little gem of a coffee shop when travelling into Powell River with my mom a few weeks ago. Being that I am a vegan with a wheat intolerance, I usually don't expect to be able to order too many things off a non-vegan cafe's menu, but I was thrilled that this wasn't the case at River City Coffee. They had a number of vegan or veganizable sandwiches and soups, plus you can switch out the bread on their sandwiches for a gluten-free variety. Score! The staff at the shop were super friendly and all-around lovely. Also, I found the shop had a funky-yet-mellow ambiance, which came as a surprise to me especially given that this is located in a strip mall. After we ordered our drinks and food, I walked around to the back and was surprised at just how big it was. There were tons of small tables and chaises/couches, and it had a bit of an artist's studio feel. Very cool. If I'm up in Powell River again, I'll definitely pay another visit to River City Coffee. read more

The cappuccino was substandard, the pastries (using that term loosely) are stodgy and forgettable. The staff is rude and officious. Basecamp has superior food and coffee. I think the other reviews are staff. ;-) read more

These guys made a mean Breakfast Burrito - the cheese, eggs, and sauce was amazing! Their americano was good too. My only regret, I saw a cinnamon bun that I didn't buy - it looked delicous. The place had ample seating and the service was great. I would come back here again! read more

I was out in Powell River recently and stopped by this little cafe for a late afternoon snack. I wouldn't doubt that this place probably has the best coffee in town, but when it comes to other menu items, they have a ways to go. I had a bowl of the Thai chicken soup, which a staff member said is "really really good". it was so icky that I could barely get through half of it! Canned baby corn, canned water chestnuts, broken up pieces of vermicelli that were cooked down into a gelatinous goop, and sweet Thai chili sauce. Disgusting! Their fruit smoothies weren't any better. They must use fruit syrups (no real fruit) because they were sweet as 7-11 slurpees. Upside: friendly staff, nice vibe, and probably the best independent coffee shop in town. read more

What a nice surprise! Lovely airy space, house-roasted coffee, fast friendly service, yummy treats with ethical meat, kids play area, and they even serve local microbrew. Was not expecting this while passing through a strip mall on the way through town. read more
