Lisa and her designer created something that matched the rough thoughts we had, but went several steps beyond, making it better than what I had imagined in several ways. We started with some tired, neglected landscaping containing a lot of (sick) grass, and some drainage issues, and from that they created a mini nature park in our backyard, including a river-rock-filled dry creek bed, a packed gravel walkway around it, built-in drip irrigation, lighting, as well as a plan for trees and shrubs that will invite birds, bees, butterfiles, etc. This plan was executed by a company she frequently partners with - Oregon Outdoor Living - and they were great to work with as well. The workers are highly skilled and diligent. We're looking forward to see how it grows out! Communication has been excellent all of the way through. She was collaborative throughout the planning process and helped the board members of our condo articulate what we were hoping for as we were treading into a territory we had know prior knowledge of. Hanne was able to calibrate her plan based on our budget, our capacity to collectively maintain the yard, and the aesthetic we were hoping for. She kept in mind how prices for plants and materials would change, and worked quickly to save us from paying more than we had to. On the work day, she was willing to guide 6 landscaping newbies through updating our yard. Even though it was raining, she made the entire landscaping day enjoyable. Since then, Hanne has been more than willing to provide us direction on how best to maintain our new yard and even provided us useful recommendations for building a fence to accompany our yard update. I had initially become aware of Hanne because of one my sisters had an amazing experience with her previously, and after the similarly great time we had with her, my other sister hired Hanne for her yard! What we love about Barclay: --Barclay's crew is meticulous. We needed a carefully-crafted slope on the patio and some steps, to direct water flow away from the house and down the driveway instead. His crew did it, solving a water issue that we'd dealt with for many years. --Barclay's crew is careful of existing infrastructure. We experienced no damage to our plants, house, driveway, etc. --Barclay is flexible. After his crew began the project, we realized that we wanted to go "all in" and do pavers over our entire backyard, instead of just over part of it. They are truly service-oriented from the moment you reach out to them, and it starts with Dan. He's friendly, responsive and provides detailed estimates immediately for whatever work is needed. We have a 5-zone sprinkler system with a combination of drip lines and sprinklers in the front and backyard. It's a funky arrangement that needed a serious upgrade. His crew (Marvin and Jose) are miracle workers! They are real problem solvers who managed to reroute some existing sprinkler lines, fix several hidden leaks and provide more water coverage in several zones. Marvin and Jose are a joy to watch. They really enjoy their work and it shows. Marvin will even sing while he's putting in new drip lines or tying off others, and nothing seems to faze him. Both men are polite, courteous and appreciative of drinks and snacks while they work. They say "Thank you, so much" every time. After spending the entire day at our home, we tested the system and everything worked well, but there were a few dry spots I noticed the next day. Dan came by today to collect payment and I showed him the areas where water wasn't quite reaching and he said, "No problem." Marvin and Jose will come back to make a few adjustments -- at no extra charge. Best of all, the new parts they install are guaranteed for 5 years instead of one. Who does that? All in all, this was a terrific experience and I wish I had hired this company 13 years ago when we landscaped our yard. I'm so impressed with them and you will be, too.
