I boarded my dog for 8 days here and she ended up contracting leptospirosis during her stay. She was extremely ill and the vet told us that it would be best to euthanize her because there was little chance she would survive the night. Our dog also had fecal scalding due to a large amount of feces being left on her for many days. We took her to the emergency vet and paid 11K for emergency treatment and a 7 day hospital stay that she required to survive. Honestly, I would steer clear of boarding my dog here. - S.C read more

We have brought our blue-nose pittie, Nellie, here twice- once for a week and once for a weekend. Both times, she was so excited to be dropped off and has come home tired and happy and her usual silly self. We were very nervous initially about leaving our baby with anyone, especially away from home (she's definitely spoiled), but as soon as we saw Dina's set up and how well Nellie responded to her, it put our minds at ease. My baby Toby Keith M spent three nights at River Dogs and thoroughly enjoyed his stay. He's a generally happy dog but doesn't usually have interaction with other dogs. I'm a bit over-protective ;). He hadn't been socialized in a group setting ever. Owner Dina was gracious enough to keep me updated with pics and highlights/behavior, which reassured me that he was ready for this adventure. I have been taking our dogs for a couple months with no issues and the service was good. My dogs like the place and enjoyed going there. My complaint is that the website needs to be updated when trying to make a reservation it doesn't let you without error. Dina as a business owner needs to communicate better. I boarded my dog in October/November and when I called to check on him, I was told that everything was fine. I recently tried to board my dog, and Dina told me that she didn't have space and that my dog got into altercations with other dogs during his last two boarding. Dina failed to communicate these incidents to me not until December. As a business owner passing vital information is important as the event happens not months later. Left my mixed dauchsand here for 6 days to attend a family reunion in San Diego for the first time. The process involved submitting a request and bringing my dog as an orientation to make sure she got along with other dogs. Gave me an opportunity to see how the resort is set up and I loved it. It's like leaving your dog with another family who watches over them to make sure they feel welcomed and have probably more outside time to play than at home. I've been taking my dogs here since about 2014. We chose River Dogs over other daycare facilities because the price was reasonable and River Dogs sits on a large amount of property which is plenty of room for our dogs to run around. I have two rambunctious boxers who need a lot of play time and socializing. Needless to say, they come home happy and exhausted every time I pick them up. Dina, the owner, is also reasonable about pick-up and drop-off times; you can even text her in advance and let her know of any last minute changes or delays. I used to live in West Sac and it was awesome having River Dogs five minutes from the house. Now I live in North Natomas and guess what? I still make the drive. My dogs jump five feet in the air when I tell them we're leaving for daycare. They even start crying when we turn the corner into Hart Avenue because they know all their friends are waiting for them. River Dogs has been absolutely amazing with our two dogs! One of our dogs tends to run anxious and the other is a hyper active puppy so we were nervous when it came to boarding them for the first time but Dina did an amazing job with them! Our first time there we did a walk through and she answered all questions we had and while we were away she responded to us in a very timely manner with cute pictures of our pups. Our puppy ate his bed, which she informed us of, but it was no trouble for her at all. I was very happy leaving my dog here for a long weekend. I was initially concerned because she is not crate trained but we did a day visit prior to her stay and my dog did fine. What I appreciate about Dina's facility is that the yard is large and the dogs get a lot of outdoor time and exercise. We love Dina and River Dogs Resort! My kinda shy pup leaps out of the car when I pull in for his daycare date. The area for the pups is spacious and well kept, lots of free roaming room as well as a comfy place to rest in between play times. Dina herself is easy to communicate with and clearly loves dogs. This is not Sacramento's premier dog boarding facility. I know this because I called numerous times and heard that claim over and over again on voicemail, even after leaving a message of interest three days earlier. Finally on the fourth day of no communication, Dina the owner calls and I set up a tour with my dog. The tour was lackluster. Dina is aloof. This facility is a home on a large lot, the backyard being the boarding facility. The area where larger dogs are boarded is an exposed dirt weedy area that had old dog poo piles laying around. The housing for the dogs are dilapidated Tuff Sheds with metal crates crammed inside. We choose this place anyway because Dina was a mutual friend though other friends. I gave her very direct instructions on my dogs bedding situation. Two padded beds were delivered on drop off day. The reason is because the play area is mostly exposed dirt and after a few days the bedding could be switched out if soiled. Also I informed her, if my dog chews up her bed, to please remove it and she can sleep on the plastic liner. No updates or photos of her stay were forwarded to me unless I asked days into my vacation. Fast forward a few more days when I asked again how things were going that's when she informed me that my dog destroyed both beds! So after destroying the first bed, Dina never bothered to call and ask what to do, she just choose to switch out the beds. On pickup day, it was aloof Dina once again and her first comment was "So I should just bill the card on file?" Not, your dog was this or that, not she was great or she was wonderful. Nothing like that. When I mentioned my request to her about the bedding and that I'm going home with no beds after dropping off two, she blamed me. She took absolutely zero responsibility, got defensive and couldn't even apologize for not being able to follow simple instructions. Don't use this boarding facility. read more

I first found River dog resort in summer of 2019. I was looking for somewhere I could trust and being local in west sac was definitely a perk. I was very impressed with the property and my pug seemed comfortable on our first tour. It is so important for Sir Pugsley to not just be taken care of with food and water. It is important that he feels safe and comfortable. Last time I dropped off Sir Pugsley he ran over to the owner Dina and jumped up to her excited like he was seeing a friend! Dina responded "oh we love Sir Pugsley". This alone makes my heart so happy. It's great he gets to socialize with other dogs and he always comes back clearly exercised! Lastly, I really appreciate Dina's patience with my sometimes last minute schedule changes. She always accommodates us! read more

My dogs love it here! The grounds are homey, well-kept and secure, staff is attentive and the dogs are having great fun. I like that my dogs are out playing for most of the day - not stuck in a kennel - and that my very senior dog was tended to carefully.
