First and foremost Juston (not a typo) and he's not French... Only his mustache is (: He was our tour guide and made the tour exciting. He also went out of his way to give me my shirt I left on the bus the very next day. He's a former Marine and so is his Mustache....hahahaha So I purchased the tickets on Viator. I'm a local and unfortunately they will only pick you up on the Las Vegas strip. The options were the MGM Grand the Venetian and one other I forgot. You can drive yourself but from where I live it would have been about a 1 hour drive. I believe there were about 11 of us in the van and body types and strength definitely varied. Make sure not to work out arms before you go. Before we actually got to the lake we stopped at a park about 20 minutes away from our destination and there were goats that we took pictures of and got to see a nice view of lake Mead. Once you get to the marina there is a store that you can get some snacks of waterproof bag and general fishing stuff. You will not get a signal out there and if you want to use the wi-fi at the marina you have to pay for it. Just put your phone in airplane mode to save battery. Once you get in the water it was about an hour up and an hour back and Juston will be calling out animals and certain things along the tour that are of significance. There isn't just one company out there so if you go on the weekend there was going to be a line to get into emerald cove so just be prepared to wait. I went on a weekday and still had to wait 20 minutes just to get into the cave so I can only imagine the weekend would be about an hour. One thing that I would say to make sure is to call RiverDogs and find out if you have a tandem kayak or a single because when I tried to reserve the tour it didn't give me the option and my sister and nephew needed a tandem. We had just about a perfect day, 90 degrees and no wind. Went from Dam to Willow Beach 12 miles. There were six of us 3 kayaks and 3 SUP. We were lucky if there had been a head wind SUP would have been very very tough. Our guide Jessica was knowledgeable of area and just fun to be with. I wore flip flops and while OK the hot spring trails are slippery. Maybe wear something you could strap on with a bit more traction. The launch area is spectacular! We did the Kayaking tour on the Colorado River - Great activity to see the incredible nature outside of Vegas. Michelle was our tour guide - great knowledge on the local area - environment - history! It is a good workout - 4-miles round trip (2-up to the cave & 2-back) newbies don't worry. She taught me how to kayak before we took off. Wear water shoes/bathing suit, hat sunglasses. She had water & good snax. There is also a place to change clothes/bathroom, purchase snax/hats/sun shirt - etc. at the Marina before you leave and get back. I would recommend a tandem (2-person) kayak - it got windy the day we were out there, and it was really nice to share the challenge. read more

We had a great time on the Colorado River with River Dogz. The guide, Michelle, picked us up at the hotel on the Vegas Strip, and the ride was less than an hour from Vegas once we got everyone else picked up. Michelle was our guide on the river also. She gave a quick tutorial on paddling and was very patient with those in the group who were kayaking for the first time. She also had plenty of snacks, including fresh fruit, and plenty of water. You should bring your own bottle of water, but they provided plenty of extra for everyone. The river itself was magnificent. The water was cold, which was great since the area was having a severe heat wave while we were there. The canyon walls and mountains make for amazing scenery, and Michelle took lots of pictures she will airdrop to you when she drops you back off at the hotel. Everything was well planned and we had a great time. We highly recommend using this kayak company if you want to spend some time in a national park on the Colorado River. read more

Me and my fiance had such a fun time on this kayaking tour! Our tour guide Adam made the whole process so smooth and fun. He was very patient with the newbie kayakers (so don't sweat it if you've never kayaked before!). Adam was also very knowledgeable with all of our surroundings from what we see in the water-- to the sky. I loved that we took a break to do a little hike to learn more about the historical site. We weren't able to spot any Big Horn Sheeps during the tour, but Adam went the extra mile and drove us to the park to see them on our way back from the tour! This is probably the best tour I've booked for myself to date. I feel extremely fortunate to have this experience with nature and Matt as my tour guide. Long story short: I was going to Vegas and had a lot of time to kill before everyone else got in. I thought to myself, why not book a half day kayaking excursion? It was the best idea ever! Most kayaking excursions start early in the morning as they involve traveling for an hour or more. River Dogz is one of two groups that does an afternoon tour. River Dogz is the only business that has hydro bikes available to use instead of kayaks. Anyway, I reached out and we set it up and it was smooth sailing. On the day of the tour, the other family who were supposed to join changed their tour date to a different day but Matt called and said he would still give me a tour. I felt guilty that he'd have to go out of his way to pick me up at my hotel and give me a solo tour but it was awesome. He also picked up snacks and sandwiches and asked if I needed any smoothie or juice on the way there (he's very mindful of different diets fyi). And then we drove out to Lake Mead. On the way he pointed out various fault lines and sediment types. He got to know my skill level and we decided I'd try a kayak with a rudder since I don't kayak often. In the end I did not need the rudder but it was good to be prepared. I learned so much from Matt! I won't give all the details here but I was constantly fascinated that at one point, Lake Mead was candidate for the Dam (now Hoover Dam), and that some spots were 700 feet deep, and home to a crashed B-9 airplane that is almost perfectly preserved in the water. The Mojave Tribe also thrived at Lake Mead at one point, using plants and natural resources to make spears and camouflage themselves for safety. Aside from the wild life, fauna, and different vegetation, there was so much to grasp while paddling through a 4-6 mile loop. Matt is also a great photographer and took some pics of me at Emerald Cave and other hot spots. He offers sunset tours, paddle boarding, and other full day packages. The groups are smaller so you'll get a personalized experience here and with great company! I would love to come back to do another tour and hope you will do yourself a favor and book this tour if you'd like a break from the slot machines! read more

I wanted to give them a six on a one to five scale if it's possible. This is one farewell trip I planned for my friend and we all come a long way to meet in Las Vegas, so I wanted to be extra special and Matt definitely helped me achieve it! On searching Emerald kayak tour it didn't first pop up, but fortunately, others were full and kayak lake mead (Shout out to Robert!) referred us to Matt. Booking is very smooth, Matt is very responsive and patient over the phone. It was reasonable price and he took $20 entrance fee off. Let me tell ya, it's soooo worth it! In fact, we wish that we brought more cash to tip them. On the day, we meet at the marina at 8:30am, most of other tours set out late, I'm so happy that we did this time of the day despite my friends have to catch flights, I'll get back to it later. The road is a bit rough due to the last night storm, so my friend's tire popped. But we run into a super duper nice guy works at the marina's gift shop who helped us to call, wait and watch us along the way as we had a donut spare tire on. We made there in time, Matt has already sent Eric (another guide) to look for us. Just to give you a feel of how nice these people are! Off to the kayak, man, they have some fancy kayaks! Some of the fastest kayaks I've ever been on. There are three guides with us (four singles and three tandems) and they prepared one bottle of cold water and one bottle of freeze water for later. One detail moved me, the bottles are all flip caps so that you don't need to worry about lose the cap on the river. We paddle, we hiked, we had snacks and fruits, which were all prepared by the staff and from Trader Joe's! They are super knowledgeable and we were so entertained as one of us majored in Ecology and the other majored in Geology. Spot on! And the scenery is just out of this world, Matt is great at taking group pictures, some of our best shots of this trip attribute to him! We got to the cave a tad bit earlier to take the iconic green water, but because we are early so we had the cave, actually several caves to our own. This is way more important to me than getting trapped in crowds as we seen on the way back that all the other touring companies are taking turns to go into the small cave. Matt showed us rescue tricks and we were swimming even bouldering in the cave, and you can still see the colors at some spot, it's crystal clear water, with or without light, it's always amazing. Lunch at a very nice beach with food all from Trader Joe's (salads, wraps, chips), man, my friend told me that she felt so spoiled this time as this is the best food she's ever had on a tour. To be honest, with the food, the 5 hours kayaking, the rental the labor, we don't even know how they make money out of what we paid. The best part is yet to come, on the way back, as we cruise besides other kayakers that are waiting to get into the cave, the whole river was lighted up by the afternoon sun. Now you have it, the Emerald River. Matt took several group pictures of the four of us, as he knew this is probably the last time we are together. We are all very grateful for this great experience. This is probably my longest review so far, I wanted to reveal all the details as they are the winning factors and they've shown how serious Matt is regarding his business. River Dogz is a professional run organization! I purchased the Emerald Cove kayaking experience from Viator. Their communication prior to the trip & email confirmation was extremely helpful and clear! I met the group at Willow Beach, the national park service runs the park, Michelle (@ River Dogz) mentioned their was a $25 park fee - free for Military Active Duty, she saved me $25. Once I met them at the location, Michelle & Paul worked to get me comfortable with the entire experience (fitted me with the correct kayak & PFD). I was fearful of this experience but they made me feel competent, wanted & included! I struggled with the proper way to paddle but Paul didn't give up on me, he stayed with me the entire time. The way to the Cove was upstream & I struggled trying to catch up with group, but on the way back I was quicker and it was definitely easier. We stopped twice and did a short hike. I didn't see much wildlife; but that's not the tour guides fault. Sometimes wildlife comes out & sometimes they don't, meh! The highlight was the canyon walls, the clear (but chilly) water, and the Emerald cove. It was a long day but a rewarding one. Again, I'd like to thank Michelle & Paul. Pre-booked. 3.5 hour trip on Lake Mead as part of our first "pandemic vacation" to Vegas. The instructions and communication ahead of time were excellent. I hate wondering if I'm gonna miss details but they informed me all the way. Kylie picked us up at our hotel on the strip, drove us (9 in the group I think) an hour each way, advised us all on local sights as we drove, how to kayak and not hurt our shoulders etc.. She helped launch all of us including 2 of those big hydro bikes. Took us all up to the cave and back (including a couple stops along the way). Then she personally cleaned and loaded all the kayaks up and dropped us all back off. She did the work of 3 people and smiled all the way. She even took photos of all of us throughout the day and provided them to us for free as we disembarked. (By contrast I heard another operator while we were on the river kinda yelling at her 'guests' to hustle up like some kind of kayak boot camp lol).
