We went here with a couple of friends for an afternoon half day. My boyfriend had never done it and I hadn't been in years. I actually really enjoyed it in the end. It was more mellow than I remember it being. The hardest part honestly was sitting on the raft for close to 3 hours. That was the most difficult!! This was my first rafting trip. I had just moved to Oregon when my boyfriend invited me to go on this rafting trip with his co-workers. Of course I said yes--how fun! Our guide was awesome and we had a blast. Ramy is not a very confident swimmer so the guide had him sit in the safest spot (and this worked out really well). Although this was really fun and I felt safe while rafting with River Drifters, I think I've checked the box on river rafting. I really liked how our guide, Ryan, had us practice the paddle-and-duck moves before floating into the "Hell Hole" or whatever the worst drop was called. I definitely recommend this company if anyone is looking for a day-trip of splashing and laughing near Portland. What a fun day! We were a little disheartened at first because the weather didn't start out great. We chose August for the heat, but the day started off cool and rainy. The skies cleared throughout the day, but it still remained cool. No matter though, our guide, Shion, gave us a great time! This was the second time rafting with River Drifters for my wife and I. Now we have kids and wanted to bring them. They rode the bull almost the entire trip and left tired from all the fun and excitement they had. Shion was a great, friendly, entertaining and informative guide who knows the river very well. In fact, all of the staff was helpful, patient and friendly throughout all our interactions. They even extended the distance of our trip since usually it takes longer for people swimming and jumping off the rafts throughout the trip. It was cold enough nobody wanted to, so we finished the usual trip early enough and they wanted us to get our full time in, so they extended the route. We went with a large group on Saturday and had an amazing experience. The check in process with Mandi was easy and all the staff were naturally friendly and welcoming (not like that super overly friendly wait staff friendly...). As we drove to the launch point, Mandi went over safety tips and pointed out things as we went. Our guides for our groups were Cole and Lucas. We had Lucas as our guide and he was informative and went along with our competitive spirit to beat our other raft down. Our son was at the front of the raft and Lucas let him go to the back and call out some commands, teaching him about guiding a raft. At no point during the trip was anyone ever scared or wanting to jump ship. We all accidentally drank a lot of river water from smiling so big. For those folks that get motion sick, I can't speak for everyone, but I get carsick as the driver and can't watch kids swing on a swing without feeling green and I felt totally fine throughout the trip. The raft doesn't rock like when you're sitting out in a lake, you're too busy splashing, rowing, having fun and floating down the river to get the sway. My husband and I had gone rafting 10 years ago with River Drifters using a Groupon deal. We loved the experience and staff so much that when we planned our trip for my husbands birthday, I honestly didn't look elsewhere. It was the first time rafting for 10 of the 14 and the family is all talking about going making it a yearly thing now and wanting to go full day. Wow! The half day rafting on Maupin totally exceeded our expectations. My sister and I took our six kids (ages 7-12) expecting some push back. We did the full day raft trip and it was awesome. Mike was our guide and he was funny and entertaining while still making sure we were all safe (he turned out to be the best rope rescuer too). On the full day we rafted but also hiked so warmer waters, jumped off rocks, ate lunch, picked blackberries and rode rapids in just our life vests. Did a three day deschutes trip with Ty, Brady and Nate. A great trip. Well organized. Very communicative on safety and informative on the river and surrounding areas. Food, transportation and equipment all excellent. Super fun and able to adjust the trip for adventure levels and age/ability level. Our boat was into as much splash as possible we managed 3 involuntary swims. The other boat was much tamer. There are 9 outfitters in Maupin, I cannot speak for the others but certainly the competition has forced everyone to be on their game in order to compete. But I would not hesitate to go with river Drifters again. Looking forward to doing another trip next year with this group. read more

We adventured down the Deschutes River with River Drifters for a 3 day/2 night trip. Our guide was Brian and our Gear Boat Master was Shion and his pup Sato. Being a first time rafter, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I honestly feel like this company brought their A-game and really made this experience exciting, entertaining, and thrilling. Our guide Brian was awesome, totally down to earth and very personable. He made the small talk on the boat interesting, had plenty of jokes, and also knew the river like the back of his hand. He weaved our boat through the rapids, making sure we all got some splash time, taught us how to "surf waves", and kept our spirits up even when the weather turned a little chilly. On our second day, he led a hike up the Deschutes canyon where we got a chance to put our experience in perspective as we watched the river meandered through the hills. He built our confidence in our paddling skills and took us through some exciting rapids while keeping us all in the boat. Our gear boat guide Shion was a master as he raced down the river and secured our group the best campsites along the river. He was so fast and efficient that he even had food cooked and ready for us as we reached the site. He was so accommodating when it came to food preparation and was an awesome cook as well. Overall, from the reservation process to the actual rafting, River Drifters was beyond professional and really put together a fun time. Did a 1/2 day rafting trip today. Zane was our guide and I would highly recommend him. He was amazing with my family of 4 with 2 teenage kids. I docked a star as the other rafting companies seemed to be more careful with covid requirements including limiting number of people in a bus and in the boat. They gave my family a boat and guide for ourselves but I had to request it compared to others who said it was their policy. Such an incredible trip! We were on the Deschutes River for 3 days and two nights. Our guides were incredible. They were both safety-oriented and super fun. Ryan led our crew, handled our gear, and setup our camps. He was incredibly knowledgeable and legendary for removing a rattlesnake from our camp and charging a huge rock jump. My strongest recommendation for anybody driving distance to Maupin, Oregon. This is the second time I've done the half-day rafting trip with River Drifters at the Deschutes River in Maupin. The first time was several years ago and the experience led me to picking River Drifters again for a group of 8 guys hosting a Bachelor Party. The second trip was as much fun if not more than the first trip. Our guide Brody was very professional and knowledgeable of the rapids and the area. But talking with the other guides, I'm confident that they are all excellent at their job. Pros: -Guides are enjoyable members of the group -All necessary gear (life jackets, paddles) are provided -Check in process was very efficient -Safety brief was informative and concise -Pictures provided from staff on shore are available for online purchase Cons: -Pictures were expensive (but reasonable compared to similar adventure-type tourism). I think it was $60 for the entire set of 20 or so pictures. Notes: -We asked our guide to intentionally cause us to flip (in a safe manner) -They have a small store with shirts/stickers/souvenir type items for purchase read more

The day before our trip I wanted to add another friend to our trip but i was told they were completely full and we couldn't add another person to our raft. I thought it was a long shot but worth the ask. However, when we finally get in our boat, we learn that we are the only ones in it! Just the 5 of us. Room for at least 4 more people! But yet they told me they were 'full'. I think that is more like poor coordinating on their part. I understand keeping families separate as well but there was room. Other boats had 7-9 people in them. Even though we were highly disappointed we couldn't bring another person, there were 3 of us who never rafted before and they had an amazing fun time. Jude was our guide and was super chill. Kept us safe and let us have fun. I was a little shocked at their lack of pushing the photos on us to purchase or even the mention of tipping. I felt there was a big lack of energy in all the guides in my opinion. I've been on trips where they at least have a tip jar placed somewhere but we had to actually go knock on the office door to see if our guide was in there so we could thank him. They all just seemed to disappear after getting off the bus. Maybe it's the new covid way.. but strangely different than i've seen before. If was a fun day, but not enough to make me say they are best. Definitely will try a different company next time just to experience the difference. read more

Last summer a group of five of my female relatives went on a three day overnight rafting trip on the Deschutes. Matt was our guide and Shion manned the gear boat. We went in July, the weather was beautiful and the entire experience was fantastic. Never having camped before I was nervous, but these guys have it all figured out. All your gear goes into spacious drybags that are carried on a different raft. There was lots of water, big lunches and tasty dinners ready for us each time we pulled off the river. On the water Matt taught us to play games, talked with us and was generally an amazing host. And, of course, skillfully navigated us over lots of fun rapids, took us adventuring upstream to some sandy slides, let us cliff jump and more! When we set up camp in the afternoons we hiked, swam, kayaked or napped in hammocks. Our experience was so enjoyable and we made such good friends with the father and son that shared our raft, that we all reunited this week for a one day trip down the Clackamas! Of course we requested Matt and were so excited to get to raft with him again. How awesome is it to talk about how the Game of Thrones show deviated from the book while navigating whitewater? River Drifters is a fantastic outfit and Matt might be the best guide they have (although our friends rafted with Caleb and he was a good time, too!) Rafting is just such a cool experience - you never know what's going to happen. We saw wild horses, otters, osprey, caught crawfish, stargazed and made friends for life!
