O M G…read more Pretty sure this is the most gorgeous place I've ever camped. And, having spent most of my life camping in the PNW, that is really saying something. Gorge Campground is located near the tiny outpost of Camp Sherman, along the postcard-worthy Metolius River. The campground itself is small, but the sites are large. You need to reserve online at the stroke of midnight on January 1 of each year, and believe me the premium sites along the river fill up FAST. But it's worth it because these sites are ginormous, with plenty of space for a small travel trailer and/or a couple of tents. There's a trail that runs through the campground, and along the river for a few miles in each direction. There are also pit toilets and the area is regularly patrolled by local rangers - so it was all very safe. The beauty and quiet here are too much to describe in a Yelp review. So just pack up your tent and GO. You won't regret it. I can't wait to go back! Pro tip: there is no running water at the campground, so you need to bring what you need. We stopped at the Camp Sherman RV Park and were able to fill our tank with fresh water. Some sites say there is also water at the nearby Allingson Campground, but I was not able to confirm this. Oh, and the Camp Sherman Store has pretty much anything you could possibly need on your trip!

The first review basically says it all, but here's my take…read more Been coming out here to the camp Sherman area since childhood, and it never disappoints. Getting a spot out here is hard, so book right when they open reservations. We got two spots, the premium river and one just down the way, and they are big. Lots of space for trailer or 2-3 tents and cars. Nice fire pits and very clean restroom (gender neutral), which I like for many reasons, but the most practical is, you don't have to wait, if not comfortable. People are very respectful here, didn't hear a generator at night--which is very nice, and like many campgrounds, you can feel secure leaving for hours and all your gear is safe, but may get investigated by ground squirrels (see pic). The river is beautiful and it's so fun watching the fisherman. If you'd like to hike, there's a trail along the river to Wizard Falls or the other way as well, but keep in mind, it's a little confusing with the large resort near by, that you can't cross, (if going down stream) signage isn't the best and the drop is steep. The camp store is very close and a nice Mexican/Peruvian place to eat at, if you'd like to have a meal away from camp. There is no water at the campsite, but the two down the road have running water to fill your cubes or bottles, or as mentioned, the camp store. This is a very special place, and I hope more people discover and enjoy it.

Comfortable cabin on the pristine Metolius River…read more The Metolius River is a pristine and gorgeous river, and these cabins are located only yards from the river. The cabins are comfortable and lovely with high quality furnishings and well-equipped kitchens, as well as small decks looking out toward the river. The cabins are quite close to each other, so one hears one's neighbors conversations and activities. Although the resort is advertised as having a no pets policy, and there are many signs on site regarding this, the policy is not being enforced. There were at least 2 dogs staying on the property, and several others passing through or visiting guests. Some of the dogs were permitted to roam the property freely and the owners were not consistent about cleaning up after them, so you had to watch where you stepped in the yard, to have an occasional visit (whether welcome or unwelcome) and to listen to barking. We found this to be unfortunate, and to detract from our enjoyment of the site. The location is great, close to some nice hikes and not too far from Sisters and Bend.

[Review]: Like my wife (surname Sherman) and myself (surname Camp), Camp Sherman is a blessed union of features both recreational, rustic and rural. It's not the largest campground around, with only 15 campsites suitable for tents or RVs, but it boasts access to the gorgeous Metolius river (great for fishing enthusiasts), a stellar fly fishing & general store, and numerous hiking and biking trails, all pleasantly shaded by the canopy of massive evergreen trees of the Deschutes National Forest! Facilities within the campsite are limited vault toilets, drinking water faucets and hookups for RVs (no electric), and a covered picnic area. Cell phone service is spotty to non-existent (this is a perk, if you ask me!). Showers, sadly, are not provided on-site, unless you're in a cabin; if you get desperate, use the river! For less rugged adventurers, who prefer glamping to camping, cabins are available for rent throughout the campground's sprawling acreage. There's even a Mexican restaurant, ¡Hola!, complete with umbrella-covered patio dining tables, so you can really feel like you're "roughing it!" And hey, if you get sick of being stuck in the sticks, the towns of Sisters, Bend and Sunriver are all within an hour's drive or less! You know, in case you are in need to do some "foraging" in an antique store, or something. In short, Camp Sherman is the perfect campground for those who want to get away from it all...but not TOO far away. The conveniences of civilization, and the primal beauty of Mother Earth, are in equilibrium here. If only we could achieve this level of harmony with nature everywhere!

My brother, who lives on the edge of the park, and I, who lives across the country, had breakfast and coffee two mornings in mid-April. It was quiet but lovely. The breakfasts were very good. On one visit we had the "elder special" which was tasty and very inexpensive. The next visit we chose other breakfast plates. We enjoyed all the options. Coffee was good and I loved my lattes. The ambiance, both inside and out, was lovely. What a wonder park and cozy building. The fireplace was just magnificent. The young man who wore multiple hats at the counter and serving and stoking the fire was incredibly friendly and efficient. We had a wonderful visit. 4 stars for the food and 5 stars for the service and ambiance.

Depending on your needs, Raab might hit the spot. Ten things about camping at Raab, in no particular order: 1. Don't know from where the name came, and don't know how to pronounce it. Also uncertain about the broccoli by the same name. 2. It's on a bend of the Callowash River. Bring your floaties and river shoes. You may end up walking through or around other people's campsites to get to the water, but they'll understand. If you explore, you can find several private spots, too. 3. The sites are divided into loops, and you rent a whole loop, not individual sites. Depending on your loop, your tent sites might be somewhat small and far apart, divided by lots of old-growth trees and wild rhodies. If you want a big group space with a nice gathering area, pick site E. It would be great for a group of 30 or more. 4. There's one can for each side of the campground. It's fairly clean and decently maintained for a vault toilet, but you'll occasionally experience a small line. 5. I found four geodes! Four! On the ground! 6. It's close to Bagby Hot Springs. Only like 10 miles away, and on the same stretch of road. If you get up early, you might be able to beat the crowds. 7. There are otters! They make really cute squeaky noises. 8. The nearest store is the Ripplebrook Ranger Station. They cannot run a credit card when someone is talking on the phone. They have ice and firewood, but sometimes run out of both. 9. There's no cell service. If you take walkie-talkies, be sure to charge them before you leave. 10. There are picnic tables, a soda and snack machine, dog poop bags, two family restrooms, and women's and men's restrooms. We used the family restroom and there was ample space and a baby changing station. No paper towels or a hand dryer though. A great stop on our way from the coast. About an hour and a half from Lincoln city for someone who needs a stop.

Most of the toilets are pit toilets, but there are flush toilets although they were closed when we went this past weekend. Lots of hiking trails close by. Bring your own local firewood because chances are you won't see the camp host until the morning. This campground closes for the season around mid-September.

I went for beginners ski school for adults. This was only the second time putting on a pair of skis…read morein my life. The school day progressed at a reasonable speed and all of my classmates and I left the class feeling no ready to hit the slopes. All of us upgraded our tickets to do the overeasy hill. Our instructor, Colin was very attentive to all of the people in the class. We had a small class of 5 which made it feel personable. All of the people that were in the class were supportive of each other. Other skiers were also cautious of us newbies out on the slopes.Along with being my first ski class this was my first visit to Hoodoo. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall good atmosphere& I plan to be back!
