No one likes having to go to the hospital for treatment especially via the emergency room. However the staff from the lady security officer advising my husband where to park, the gentleman at the desk who admitted me, my attending nurse, and all the super nice and professionals behind the entry doors were awesome. When you're in pain and people are pleasant, patient, and professional from the beginning to the end of your visit it makes everything better. I can't remember everyone's name but most of my contact was with Ms. Nicole and Mr. Quarles. With me being new to the state of Mississippi it's a comforting feeling that southern hospitality exists even in the workplace. The atmosphere is nice, the service is fast and professional. Radiology is terrible. Every time I'd call I was met with huffing, puffing, and attitude. If you're that miserable to where you can't do your job then maybe you're in the wrong field. Never was called to schedule over a week of waiting and excuses. Meanwhile the other location had it done within minutes. I needed a CT over a week ago but the lack of care and urgency is disappointing and made me seek care elsewhere. read more

My daughter was admitted to River Oak Hospital after going into labor at 22 weeks pregnant. This was one of the most unprofessional hospitals I have ever encountered. The sense of urgency was completely absent. Regarding the IV and the catheter, the nurse seemed to lack knowledge, as she attempted to insert the IV four times without success, and the catheter nurse appeared equally uninformed about the procedure. We arrived at 12:00 PM and did not see a doctor until 5:30 PM. Only two members of the entire nursing staff seemed to show any genuine concern. If you value your life and the life of your family member, I strongly advise against going to River Oak Hospital. When every second counts, this is not the hospital you want to be in. read more

1st care visit was wonderful However, the second visit! I presented with rectal bleeding & severe abdominal pain. Being a colorectal cancer patient, who was in remission, I was very concerned. Dr. Never examined me, seemed more focus on the number of pain pills prescribed to me over the past 4 years,not the Surgeries I had that required them. Basically, told me it could be viewed as drug seeking behavior. He left the room, within minutes sent a nurse with discharge papers, I asked to a speak to the Dr, at which time I was told he had left for the evening. Still haven't been told what caused my bleeding. Won't recommend to anyone read more

My son Davion Holmes was admitted to Merit in 8/14/2025 because of extreme dehydration which lead to him having a seizure. On 8/17/2025, around 11pm my son ran out the hospital room after receiving medication (heavily sedated) without any shoes nor shirt on his body- only wearing black shorts and black socks. His father chased after him leading to run across the street to Lampton Love where there is a river flowing. His father lost sight of him running due to the fact my husband didn't have on any shoes himself. As of today, my son Davion has not been seen nor have anyone at Merit contacted my about my son's condition, whereabouts, or called to checkup his location. I've called several times to speak Dewayne the CEO of Merit but haven't had the opportunity to speak with him as of yet. Davion is my 1st child/son, my heart is breaking! read more

I was dropped off and forgotten about for 2 1/2 hours when I got upstairs pretty much the same thing I've never been in this hospital for more than 48 hours. I've not been allowed to drink. Or eat anything and I've not seen not one doctor that says he's my doctor. I don't recommend coming here at all. I think I would rather die and come here again. read more

10/10 don't recommend this hospital for medical care (only labor & delivery). My mother was recently admitted here for over a week. She an extensive knee surgery revision. The care afterwards was atrocious. She had to wait until it was convenient for the nurses to come give her pain meds (sometimes waiting 1 to 2 hours - asking multiple times). Her call button "quit" working. She then had an infiltrated IV line. Instead of re-sticking the nurse continued to push meds in it (even with the site visibly swollen & painful). The care was great when a family member was there, but the moment she was alone it was back to the same old same old. They then wanted her to Uber to Methodist rehab because they could not manage to schedule her transport. read more

EMERGENCY ROOM 11/25/2023 This was cruel, terrifying, horrible experience. The ER Triage nurse ignored my pleading and crying in pain for 3 and 1/2 hours. I was diagnosed with appendicitis finally after 6-8 hours. I was told they had one doctor and saw people in order of acuity. The triage nurse was so angry with my REPEATEDLY BEGGING FOR HELP, he let minor patients go ahead of me. One man that had stepped on a nail, went ahead of me. I finally realized what he was doing. For 3 hours I paced and moaned because I was in pain, I couldn't sit still. Please imagine a knife stabbed in your abdomen for 6-8 hours and the staff not only indifferent but cruely makes you suffer longer because your getting angry after 4 hours and they won't help you. Being taken back to a room, I was ignored for another 2 hours. BEGGING FOR HELP. LET ME REPEAT, BEGGING FOR HELP. The Nurse Practitioner came in the room. She could have started IV, drawn blood, given toradol for pain. She only said the doctor would be there in 15 minutes. 1 HOUR LATER, NO DOCTOR. Ok still, imagine a knife in your abdomen. The pain, hour after hour after hour after hour. When I had a meltdown and confronted the staff and videotaping their response. They called security, refused treatment, threatened me and further traumatized me. I should mention I am a critical care nurse of 30 years. I knew THEY WERE BEING NEGLEGENT, MALICIOUS, DELIBERATELY CRUEL, INCOMPETENT, UNETHICAL, AND MANEVOLENT. At this time, I filmed a video to my family , in case I died, so they could know what happened. I couldn't believe what was happening. I called the nursing supervisor several times, letting her know what was happening. She wasn't too concerned with the triage nurse's Malicious behavior. This was an unconscionable and deliberate act of malpractice . For some reason my post keeps getting deleted. Tell me what I should do? I was and am severely traumatized by this horrible experience. read more

We have had an amazing experience at River Oaks. We visited on a very busy Sunday morning when the moon was full and bright! The ER was bumping and the Dr. and staff in the ER were still kind and attentive. Our weight was minimal considering the amount of patients waiting to see the doctor. The nursing staff and doctors are very kind, attentive and thorough even due to the high volume of patients needing medical attention that morning. Dad has been treated, diagnosed and hospitalized here at River Oaks. The ER staff was amazing, Dr. Ross and her amazing nurses (Beverly in the ER) were gentle and knowledgeable. Dad was diagnosed and admitted to the hospital, the doctors and staff here are world class and definitely deserve pay raises!!!I I observed amazing team effort in both the ER staff and 4th floor hospital staff(Taylor, Joanne, Teresa)! This little hospital houses amazing doctors and staff! I will be coming back to River Oaks for my ER needs. My one and only complaint was with their night time sad LITTLE short-man syndrome security guard staff ! This LITTLE short-man syndrome security guard story begins with a world class front desk ER staff that explained to me that I needed to re-park my car near the well lighted main entrance of the hospital; ounce I went to the main front entrance that I could use the call button to make a call at the well-lit main door to call a world class security guard and they would politely escort me to the correct door. It sounded like a very simple process coming from the world class front desk ER staff. Until.... 3 doors later and 3 calls later!! Listen to this long and tall sad story experience about a LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard...... I was at the well-lit main entrance door with my hands heaping full with overnight luggage and food for Dad and I. I struggled with my heaping hands to make the 1st call at the well-lit front main door. After calling the NOT so world class security guard who was rude and arrogant over the phone, the LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard only gave me confusing directions at night to a 2nd door in a low lighted unlit dark area. Ounce I struggled to arrive with my overly heaping hands to the 2nd door and at this point, ice cold cheeseburgers and melted milkshakes hotter than honeymoon love, I finally arrived to the low lighted, un-lit 2nd door and used the phone to make the 2nd call to the same rude LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard who was arrogant and rude and talked down to me, than the short little man security guard came out of his little side door and proceeded to reprimand me for walking to the wrong door. At this point I was tired of being treated and talked down to like a little two year old child. I know if the world class security that evening really cared the world class security guard would have just escorted me with the 1st call I made from the well-lit door as the front desk ER staff had mentioned and described. I was never escorted by a world class security guard. It took 3 doors and 3 calls and on the 3rd phone call I ended the last phone call and decided to discontinue the call with the LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard and just waited for someone to enter or leave. Clearly security was not doing their job that evening, my hands were full of overnight luggage and food for my Dad. The more I talked with the LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard over the phone the more demeaning and insulting he became and the more frustrated I became. This long and tall story experience about this LITTLE, short-man syndrome security guard at a World Class hospital ended with a cold cheeseburger and a hotter than honeymoon shake and some memorable conversations with Dad. I went to the ER a couple of days ago. I had been in a lot of pain, dehydrated and impacted. Dr Ross was so kind, very knowledgeable and took her time with me! The hospital was packed out. I was able to get a bed. My nurse was Otto (please excuse my ignorance for the spelling,) He was absolutely calm, gave me fluids, and checked up on me, several times. My X-ray tech was nice and positive. Dr Ross explained issues for the next few days. You guys were so awesome and I hope that they will give you a raise? Ballon's? My husband came into the ER with an active, bleeding head-wound. We waited in the waiting room for 3 hours and 20 something minutes before we were taken back. The entire time I'm cleaning his dripping blood. When his name was finally called, the nurse would not let me back with him even though I counted multiple (at least 3) other couples / families in front of us be allowed back with their patients. I also witnessed a mom ask for a cup of water for her child who was waiting in ER for a busted face and was turned down as her son cried for something to drink. He finally got staples in his head and they wouldn't even clean the dried and matted blood from his hair. My husband and our entire friend group are medical professionals (nurses, doctors, med students, EMTs) -- I get it. We know times are tough. But this visit was handled poorly and we will not be returning for any future needs. read more

This was our third trip to ER. However, this most recent visit is our last. The Dr was incompetent, rude and dismissed findings. I was discharged with obvious abnormal results with kidney functioning and bladder infection, with blood in urine. When Dr was asked about report of neurological follow up, as stated in his report, he said, " you can see a neurologist if you want to." No explanation or referral to a specialist. I left in severe pain and NO treatment for pain. Dr was told of vomiting and he said, " well you didn't do it here." Very detached care and concern from Dr Tim and nurse. . When we left complaint, we were told, " we hear it all the time!" We won't waste our time, money and entrust our health to the ER EVER AGAIN read more

My experience is with the ED. The staff in the ED need to be reviewed. I had a horrible experience after a long wait in a completely empty waiting room on early Sunday morning. There was one nurse in particular who I want to report about. Her name is Emily and she was in the ED last September 2022. I was under the effects of Ketamine administered by the ED for a minor procedure. She was so rough and uncaring that what she did brought me completely out of the ketamine and I was able to focus on the wall before I went back out again. At the end of the procedure, while still groggy, she instructed me to put on my pants, handed me my shirt and walked me to the ED door with the gown still on, to get into my car. I was still so groggy, I didn't and don't remember the ride home. It was probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had with an ED. The doctor didn't even come in the room. He asked me what I expected out of my trip from the doorway. No patient care or respect AT ALL!! Then they had the nerve to bill me for it! Appalling! Do not go here. Go ANYWHERE else for the ED. The hospital staff and services are great. Too bad it doesn't extend into the ED. read more

We had a horrible experience at this hospital. I took my wife in for a kidney infection, and all she received was a saline drip. Her condition worsened the next day, and I had to take her back to this ER. After a 4 hour wait, they finally diagnosed her correctly and prescribed antibiotics. Months went by, and then we started receiving notices from debt collectors for this visit, without ever receiving any actual bills. They didn't take down our address correctly, and so we did not actually get a bill until the collection agency found us. I tried talking to the hospital administration, and they refused to take any blame because billing is handled by an outside agency. I will never be going to this ER again because I cannot trust that I will receive my bills before they go to collections. read more

I recently had surgery @ River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, Ms. I am going to be very honest and I want everyone that reads this review to trust what I am saying! River Oaks Hospital (2 & 3rd floor) are top notch! I had the best post surgical care any patient could ask for! The nurses were absolutely AMAZING! They are the epitome of what every nurse should be! They were professional, full of patience, kind, caring, loving, understanding, knowledgeable, and the list goes on! But, it didn't just start there. From the moment I walked into River Oaks, the entire culture was wonderful, and I could feel that! I want to thank the receptionist, nurses, CNA(s), house keeping, dietary, doctors, and everyone else that made my stay at River Oaks so amazing! I want to thank management for taking time out of their busy schedule to check on my health, and I'm forever grateful for the amazing care that I received at River Oaks Hospital. The doctor and nurse that helped me seemed very irritated and didn't take time to examine what I went to the ER for. They asked me why I think this was an emergency and when I did ask them to examine me the doctor came in and looked super irritated that I asked them to very politely to to their job. I work on healthcare and everyone should know if a patient goes into the ER it may not seem like an emergency to one person but to that patient it could be a big issue. read more

My sister had her son here recently, so my review of the care is pretty limited to the L&D and Postpartum departments. Her nurses were excellent. They all seemed to genuinely care and listened to her questions and concerns with patience. She was never rushed during the delivery process, which is not always the case. The nurses were speedy in responding when she needed them, and her physician was top notch. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the cafeteria. Petty, I know, but family members need to eat too. She was there on a weekend, and their selection consisted of prepackaged salads, chicken strips, or hamburgers. The salads looked a little sad and the other options had been under heat lamps way too long. Oh, and they also close super early in the afternoon, so you're on your own for dinner (on the weekends at least). read more

My experience with River Oaks Hospital was mainly with the NICU, but I did experience the ER, customer service, cafeteria, a few OBGYN visits, and I stayed in a guest room. AND IT WAS ALL AWESOME!!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would!!! The staff in the NICU are great, every last one of them. They do everything thing can to help you and your baby. If you have any questions, issues, or problems, they want to do everything they can to help. I was there several days and there were nurses from other departments that would help me while I was there. The patient advocate is serious about his job and is a real patient advocate. The people in the cafeteria were nice and polite. I could go on and on. I wish other hospitals (I won't name names) would send some representatives to River Oaks to learn how to run a hospital. read more

I love River Oaks! My daughter has been very sick the last month. So much so I had to take her out of school to homeschool. We have been to the ER in Meridian twice, to her pediatrician 3 times, even to Batsons childrens hospital, who discharged her while she was laying on the bed crying. All because her vitals were ok. 4 days later we went to River Oaks ER. By now my daughter could barely walk from being so weak and vomiting. We were seen in about 10 minutes. They did the same tests batsons did, but when the results came back abnormal they admitted her, instead of sending her home. Her liver enzymes were sky high and she was very dehydrated. The pediatrician we saw was Dr. Jasmine Sandhu, she was wonderful and very attentive. She had to be called overnight 2 different nights and always responded quickly. The pediatric floor had a playroom, and movies for kids. Our nurses over the next 4 days were Mr Rick, Mr Daniel, miss Jennifer, and miss April. They were the best, and made the stay fun, considering where we were. They all were very good at taking blood too, getting it on the first stick. They have a light thing that makes the vein light up. Good thing, because she had to give blood twice a day. The cafeteria people were very nice, and the cleaning staff. The radiologists we saw were all very friendly. Discharge did not take long at all, like most places do. My only complaint would be my daughter now misses the nurses lol... I would recommend this hospital as the best in Jackson. Everyone says Batsons is the best, but due to the high volume of patients they just want to get you in and out quickly. Thanks to River Oaks my daughter is recovering and can go back to school. read more

Both my wife and I have had poor experiences here. I had sun poisoning that became unbearable in the middle of the night. The nursing staff was rude to my face and unhelpful. They gave me a cream to soothe it which I later learned from experience and from another doctor actually made sun poisoning worse. It was only designed for a regular sunburn. My wife accidentally cut off part of her finger. The doctor wouldn't even touch her hand because it was too "gross." She went to a different ER where they relieved the pain and reattached the tip of her finger. If you have an emergency, if you can, drive the extra 15 minutes to Baptist or St. Dominic's. River Oaks/Merit Health is just awful. read more

Do not recommend anyone to come here. Staff, *receptionist (Laura was her name), was rude to every person who came in. First we were told that any person under 18, even if they were accompanied by an adult, would not be aloud to go see the patient. Then we were told no more than 2 people in the patients room, which is fine. we had no problem with that, but we were told by the receptionist that we could not wait in the WAITING room on the same floor as the patient. We even asked nurses in the floor and the supervisor if we could stay in the waiting room and they said yes, but when i went to bring my grandparents up to see him, they said we weren't aloud to go up. for someone wearing a camo dress, orange belt, and cowgirl boots... she sure had a lot to say. She snapped at almost everyone who came through the door. she looked kind of surprised when i talked back to her after she snapped at both me and my grandparents, but i don't tolerate rude people who think they're entitled just because they sit at a desk and take temperatures. read more

Welcome to Corporate Medicine at it's worse. Run by Merit Health and you will find that the bottom line is always money. Watch their billing department carefully. They will send you one bill and if you don't pay in full immediately they turn you over to a collection agency which by the way belongs to them too. After that, both the collection agency AND the River Oaks system will bill you for the same thing. They don't coordinate. I saw 2 of the doctors in their system and will never go to another one. My mother was checked in on Thursday recently had a stroke and broker her hip. 4 days later after needed test and ready for surgery on 7/2 no one seems to know anything about when. She hasn't eaten since 5 pm yesterday it's 3:28 pm current time and still don't know anything just waiting for them to get it together. My 95 year old mother was taken to River Oaks ER by ambulance, where the hospital admitted her, on Saturday night, August 11, 2018. She had fallen at home and both arms and her left leg/ankle were extremely painful. The ladies at the admission desk were very kind and helpful. However once I got back to the room where they had Mother, things did not go so well. Mother was crying out in pain with her left ankle and both arms. They did x-rays and came back to tell us the ankle and wrists were only sprained. They put a brace on her leg, with Mother actually screaming in pain the entire time! Then the nurse helped her into a wheelchair to go to the bathroom as they were releasing her to go home with me. She was still screaming in pain and could not put any weight on her left leg! I told them I could not lift her and she certainly couldn't put any weight on her left ankle. I asked why they couldn't keep her to make sure everything was okay. The nurse said the doctor didn't think it was necessary (something along that line). This 95 year old woman suffered horribly from Saturday night at 11:00 pm when the hospital released her, until Monday morning around 9:30 am. I was able to get her in Capital Ortho on Monday, where they determined her ankle was indeed broken!!!!! No one from the hospital has bothered calling to check on her to see How she is doing!! I am extremely upset with River Oaks because of the way they treated her and did not take into consideration, her pain or our request to keep her! I would not go to this hospital if you think you might have a broken bone, as they apparently can't read x-rays, nor do they care about the pain of their patients! read more
