The service was friendly and prompt. The food is good, the coffee is great and they have a ton of delicious pastries to choose from.

Just left in 02-02-26. Ordered the "special." tomato soup and grilled cheese. Wife got a broccoli quiche and a cookie. The cookie was ok, her quiche was meh at best. She got her food quicker than me and was done eating before I even got my grilled cheese aftwr about 20 minutes. Never did get the soup, so I ate the sandwich and some chips. The server never said anything about the soup at all. Sorry I tipped for part of a meal. read more

Stopped by for lunch, ordered a cappuccino and an oatmeal raisin walnut cookie while waiting for our chicken sandwich. River Rising is hands down my favorite cafe/ lunch spot in the valley. Everything (to my knowledge) is homemade and absolutely delicious. The cookies are so big and always so soft. My absolute favorite thing on the menu.... wait for it.... THE HOUSE SALAD WITH ALLLLLL THE FIXINGS. River Rising serves a simple leafy blend of greens topped with a homemade almond granola (?) of some sort with delicious seeds and fresh mandarin oranges! Ten out of ten recommended the homemade poppy seed dressing. I use to order this dressing by the jar!!! With a gourmet coffee bar, signature sandwiches and specials, you'll really never get bored of eating here if you wanted to everyday. P.S. there is a really beautiful woman that works here. Reddish hair, brown eyes, pale skin... out of the many years I use to eat here when I lived in that valley, she has been the nicest, most congenial server I've ever encountered. Excellent coffee and great bagels. Enjoyed this place on my way out of town on a road trip last week. There was a few minutes' wait to warm up the bagel, but otherwise they were on top of things with a busy morning rush. Will definitely try them again the next time I visit MT. read more

Service suffers due to terrible communication. Ordered at 8:00 today and was told that delivery's were happening at 9. Had to call back at 10:30 to see if I might have missed them dropping off the order as I hadn't seen anyone. Was told "Oh, the fair parade is slowing us down, but they are going out now" (understandable). As of 3:00pm (which they closed early today for the fair - approx. 2pm) I have no lunch. Also I paid with my card over the phone. As the years go on things are going down hill on the service end of things. Food is good, but starting to not be worth the hassle. read more

Terrible service. Ordered a smoothie. There was no one is front of us in line. After the people behind us got their smoothies first, I said something. And then another couple behind got theirs 10 minutes after that. Almost 20 minutes waiting for A Smoothie and already aware you messed up the first time and then did it again! Ridiculous. read more

Repeated slow confused to-go service. 20 plus minute wait every time I go. I always order from the "ready made"display case of assorted pastries and sandwiches plus drinks to go. The flow of service for walk-in orders is horrible. This is the last time I waited 20+ minutes for two to-go items and two drinks with little to no one visible in line before me. I've been here now 4 or 5 times trying to see if they will ever improve. I've tried to get something different every time as well. This was an instrumental place when I first started to delve into quality coffee. My brother introduced me to this place when we lived in the valley. And he used to work here. And even though it's been nearly 10 years since I moved out of the valley I can say that the coffee here is still top notch! read more

What happened to this once wonderful bakery. The last few times here the food has been mediocre at best. The croissant was so good here, now it is about 1/2 the size and 99% bread, very little meat and cheese in them. The only thing I can figure it must have been sold recently. This was out favorite place to come to. We won't be back. read more

This was my first visit to River Rising coffee shop. We ordered a mocha with whipped cream, a latte with whipped cream and a slice of quiche. We received the warmed quiche as soon as we sat down, but the coffees didn't arrive until after we finished. We finally got coffee - 2 lukewarm super sweet mochas, one had whipped cream, the other did not. The barista kindly obliged when I asked her to microwave my coffee, but did so in the paper cup it was serve in (there goes the whipped cream). We drank about half and had to toss it. Lukewarm, super sweet "coffee" is not our thing. The two stars are for the quiche. Go to Big Creek Coffee just down the block if you are a real aficionado - you'll love it. read more

Small town, downtown coffee shop/bakery. Fairly busy on a wintry Saturday morning as I did some work. Service by the staff was okay, although I later noticed the store manager's was enthusiastic towards other customers. Ordered the Herb Roasted Chicken & Red Pepper sandwich, it did not taste fresh. Chicken breast tasted like it was freezer burned, lettuce was wilting, even the tomato was falling apart. The flavorful red pepper walnut spread wasn't enough to hide the rest of the sandwich's taste. The sandwich plate was also served with tortilla chips which is a weird complement, but at this point I was just happy they weren't stale. Also had a 12oz single shot latter, it tasted way too watery. I'm pretty sure it's not just me being spoiled in SF by hipster 3rd wave coffee. Best item I had from the bakery was the almond croissant, would of been better if it was warmed up too. Laptop camping is discouraged here during lunch, they actually turn off the free WiFi from 11:30am-1:30pm. read more

They have some wonderful sandwiches with tappenades (?) that add flavor and an unusual, but good touch to them. Soups are home-made and their coffee is excellent. The downside is the free-loaders who frequent the place, generally what would be known as the hippie types. Unkept, arrogant, milking their coffee all morning or afternoon to use the free internet. Unfortunately, to my wife and I, this is the liberal deadbeat, get as much free as you can hang-out. And that is a shame as the owner and her daughter have put a lot into bringing this place along and quite successfully. Their quiches are delicious and meals in themselves, as mentioned, soups are superior and coffee rich and flavorful. Service is counter-order and table delivered...if you can find a seat among the territorial deadbeats. If they could attract more of the successful crowd they would go farther than three stars, but the "regulars" are driving the more clean-cut people away. Too darn bad as this is a great place to eat, meet and enjoy. read more

Nice. Has Gluten-free Wheat-free options. No wifi. Not amazing. Almost five stars. No wifi is a regular occurence in the few bitterroot valley cities I've been in. Another review says the wifi is turned off during lunch, back on at 130. It's 230 now, no Wifi. For Hamilton, this is five stars. For anywhere else, it's corny. Music was allright. Art was so-so. Seating is padded. Table service is brisk. Light doesn't come in directly as it faces north. Only the Post Office is visible, across the street. Otherwise excellent. read more

Visited here for a smoothie and a piece of cheesecake for my friend. Their smoothie used real frozen fruits, not a sugar-filled liquid concoction that would put you in a diabetic coma. Real peaches, raspberries, orange juice, and low fat yogurt. Just like I make at home. Refreshing and delicious for a hot Montana summer day! My friend loved her cheesecake and it was in perfect condition due to the box it was stored in. None of the cheesecake stuck to the top either. I hate when that happens as it ruins the integrity of the dessert. Well done River Rising!! I hope you stay on Main Street for a long time. read more

I was staying in Corvallis for two months with my family and become obsessed with River Rising! My favorite item is the large salad with poppyseed dressing, and cheddar/turkey/tomato on top. The toppings are so fresh and the croutons are incredible! But by far the best part is the home made poppyseed dressing... it's to die for. I ended up buying a large cup of dressing for use at the house. The salad is HUGE for just $7. Generous portions. Great place that I will be coming back to when I visit again! read more

I got a 16 ounce Caramel latte and many (7) cookies. the price was AMAZING compared to any other caffe! The total was only $12 The cookies were very chewy (my favorite kind) and very big. "The coffee was excellent!" (In the words of my mother). I have only been there once and I did not get to try there Breakfast/Lunch, but I can imagine it is absolutely SPECTACULAR compared to what I did get! River Rising has the best sandwiches, very fresh & always up to fluff in my opinion and then the choc. chip cookies....oh my word! Who cares if you can't fit into your jeans, they are DELICIOUS! The staff is always friendly and I personally think it is awesome to see the owner making the food & putting in the effort- it's nice to see a business owner be as hands on as she is. A nice, friendly, coffee shop and bakery that also offers a limited lunch menu. I'm not a coffee drinker so I usually choose one of their tea selections and I love their bakery goods. My husband, who does drink coffee, says the coffee is flavorful and fresh. Some of my favorite bakery choices are the triple chip cookie, apricot scone, cranberry scone and ginger bread cookies. I've always found the service to be fast, helpful and friendly. The place can be fairly crowded at times but that's because it's a popular place. Yes, it can be a hang out spot for certain regulars but that's part of it's charm, especially for people from this area. It's a small town gathering spot where people are made to feel welcome...where you can chat with friends, read a bit, or people watch as you enjoy your food and drink.
