My husband and I have been using Brewer Veterinary Clinic for nearly 22 years. This is also the…read morevet that both my parents and grandparents used when I was a kid many moons ago. The staff is very professional, caring, and accommodating and we feel very comfortable and confident in their care of our dogs and cats. The only reason this is a 4-star review as opposed to a 5-star review is because we have noticed recently that their prices have increased a good bit. I know that we are living in a very difficult economy and everything is more expensive these days, but I feel that their price increases are pretty significant. Additionally, their wait times have been pretty long lately. We had an appointment for one of our Golden Retrievers last week and we arrived a few minutes early, but ended up waiting in the parking lot for 20 minutes past our appointment time for them to come out to get our dog (you still can't go inside with your pet due to COVID). We also really miss Dr. Feher, who sadly, but understandably retired and sold the practice a few years ago. He always kept their prices very low while still providing top-notch care. He was our vet for many, many years and he was also our vet when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s. Overall, if you are looking for a vet that you can trust to provide the highest level of care to your fur kids, I very highly recommend Brewer Veterinary Clinic.

In December 2021, one of my dogs sustained a facial injury. It was later in the afternoon, I Was applying an initial bandage to the dogs face and my wife called the clinic which was still open. The receptionist, Jo-El, apathetically told my wife that they would probably be closed by the time we arrived. My concern was the proximity of the injury to the dog eye. The dog was seen and treated at midcoast in Warren who did an excellent job.. Several days later, I expressed my concern about the clinics reaction to Dr Haller, who responded with a scathing email telling me that I had no business abusing her staff on the phone. Dr. Haller also stated "Ultimately, dog bite wounds can wait until the morning in many cases, with antibiotics and pain medications. Due to the crushing component of bite wounds, the full extent of injury isn't fully declared for 3-5 days afterwards - meaning that if it was small, I may not have even wanted to close in a potential infection or unhealthy tissue." To put it simply, this statement is completely inaccurate. Its proximity to the Eye demanded immediate attention. Apparently the receptionist decided to provide her employer with a more creative version of the truth, rather than take responsibility for her completely unprofessional and unacceptable behavior, When I wrote her back to explain that I hadn't even been on the phone and that the call had been recorded, I didn't receive any reply. I then wrote the clinic owner of my experiences, and never got a reply. It is my understanding that the clinic has since been sold to a corporation. This makes no difference to me. It's been my experience when I was working that corporate ownership at no time improves the quality of service provided by any veterinary clinic.

These folks are without any…read moredoubt the most knowledgeable - accessible and compassionate veterinarians in a county that has many terrific vets . Dr Hanks & Dr Barry are both " Top Gun Vets " . They may not always be able to tell you what you want to hear - that's the nature of this business unfortunately- but they will deliver bad news in the most caring compassionate manner possible .The waiting area is extremely comfortable too with coffee always available . Front desk staff is also over the top friendly & compassionate . For a veterinary practice they get the highest rating by me of ANY that I've experienced over my lifetime . What's the real difference here ? I think best summed up like this : they truly care for your pet as if your pet was there's . Update : March 20 2019 - I want to thank all the staff at Kindred today & particularly Dr Barry for placing our beloved Jack asleep this morning at about 10 am . Dr Barry was honest -compassionate and straightforward . His time with us today with Jack is the toughest time for a veterinarian too - and Dr Barry performed his role to such an honorable extent that despite my tremendous grieving tonight I want to make sure I make mention of it . Jack was worth all the tears I've cried for him today and then some . This veterinary practice is more than worth your patronage . I will miss the staff here almost as much as I will miss Jack . Thank You Dr Barry & Hanks & Kindred .

The kennel seems to be run by teens with little experience and not much knowledge of pet care. We always used to tune into the pet cams when we were traveling to see our baby and verify that cleaning and care were actually taking place. When we picked up our baby at 2pm there was dried food in her bowl and the kennel looked like it was not cleaned. It has been two years since the pet cams have been working and It gives me an uneasy feeling that this is intentional. We are actively looking for a new kennel and highly doubt we will use this kennel again.

They worked with me to find the optimal location for him in the kennel where he wouldn't have to see dogs and cats. They spent time with him every day and sent me frequent pictures and updates. Bunny diets are not easy but they followed my hay, pellet, treat, and salad feeding instructions so he didn't have any GI disturbances. Everyone I met was so kind, from the staff to the manager to the owner. They all really obviously care about animals and seem to like their jobs. I don't like to leave my bunny behind and avoid it if possible. But sometimes it's unavoidable and I'll be way less worried doing so in the future, knowing that this kennel is nearby.

I answered the questions in depth as best as I could and received an email stating there was a "long wait list" but they'd be in touch when they had availability. Over 6 months later, I decided to resubmit my application. This time, I was able to provide more insight to our dog's behavior and show that she had been to training. I received the same email back - they still had our application but had a long wait list. Recently, I was speaking with an acquaintance who happened to be picking up her dog from Zucco's. I admitted my jealously and how I'd been on the waitlist since September. She was confused since she had only recently started bring her pup there and did not have to wait more than a few weeks. She asked what kind of dog I had. I explained we weren't sure since she was adopted from the humane society but we guess she is part pitbull, part lab, and probably many other breeds as well. Well, she mentioned one other person she knows who had a pit mix who was turned away outright from Zucco's. No interview, no meeting the pup, no regard for their demeanor and lack of ANY aggression. Am I to assume this is why I have not received a call? Because I guessed bout my dogs breed?. Or perhaps because she was adopted based on what I've read from other reviews. Either way, I don't appreciate being strung along for nearly a year if they have no intention of even meeting my sweet, tolerant, not-an-aggressive-bone-in-her-body puppy. She was rescued very young and has no history of abuse. I would rather they just tell me "no" than keep me on a wait list indefinitely that doesn't seem to exist for others. I would love to be proved wrong here and still hope to hear from the business but I don't have much hope. *******UPDATE******** Hours after posting my review above I received the email below. Childish. I should also note that my pup was 3m old when I first applied. And bully breeds? How awful. Email: Hi there, We appreciate your interest in Zucco's Dog House. At the Dog House our daycare is now FULL and we are no longer accepting adult dogs. We are only accepting puppies at this time (10-24 weeks). We have also changed our policy on adult dogs if accepted. Adult dogs will be CONSIDERED only if they have been to a previous daycare and if they are not presently attending a local daycare. If at a present daycare we recommend remaining at the present daycare, due to limited space at all local daycares. We have learned through research and experience that high prey drive breeds do not do well with our open concept. These dogs generally go above threshold due to excessive stimulations. Examples of these breeds: Bully breeds, working breeds or herding breeds (German Shepherds, Pitbulls or pit-bull mixes, collies, cattle dogs etc...). These pups generally do better in smaller group play and as we have recommended in the past FireFly Kennels in Dixmont is a great place. 207-852-4560 This email is to let you know that we will no longer be holding your application on our wait list.
