Massive foil job 4 days ago with "honey" highlights. Still have a root line with lots of grey and 85% brown hair that is a bit mousy. I clearly requested to cover the grey and keep being mostly blonde, and honey highlight sounded great. I was offered a great idea for a fix after this, but I declined. Holly is a very nice person - I am glad so many people had a better experience than I did and I am sorry this did not work out as I thought it would. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Holly at River Rock. She truly saved the day. After another stylist canceled on me last minute for a wedding, I was in a total panic. I called around to multiple salons and everyone was fully booked, including Holly. When I explained my situation, she didn't hesitate. Even though she was off that weekend, she graciously made time for me and completely turned a stressful situation into a beautiful experience. Holly was incredibly kind, accommodating, and extremely professional. She worked quickly without rushing, and my hair turned out absolutely amazing. I made it to the wedding on time and feeling confident, which felt nothing short of miraculous given the circumstances. Holly is amazing. I moved up to lake placid from Brooklyn a few years ago and bounced from stylist to stylist looking for someone who could balayage. Not only can Holly BALAYAGE, she works with you to understand your thoughts and inspiration, chats with you about what will look good with your coloring/face shape, and talks you through everything she is doing. I had an appointment with Holly once where I booked her most expensive service. When I arrived and showed her my inspiration pictures, she gave me a cheaper service that would get me closer to my vision. I walked out feeling amazing. Courtnie is amazing, professional, on time, wonderful at cuts, color and styling (i have very thick, frizzy, curly hair, and she blows it out so smooth and silky every time!). i am super picky about my hair and don't like getting it cut because i'm always afraid it'll be cut too short but she listens to what i want while keeping the health of my hair in mind. price point is totally reasonable for all you get with her services! 10/10 would recommend every time! the salon is tiny but very cute and clean. excuse the knife and cutting board in my photo! I drive an hour, one way, just to visit this salon. The stylists are all very talented and professional while being light hearted and friendly. You sense they are all quite close and work as a team. My hair is some of the most difficult to cut and color. Easily brassy blond and super fine and straight. Courtney cleaned up my blond to a beautiful blend of ash and platinum with a cut that falls just right with very little styling. Not an easy task. I highly reccommend River Rock. read more

What a great place! First time here! I booked a spa day for my daughter and I. We were welcomed like we were regulars from the start. We had Mani/Pedis. All staff was amazing! Jasmin did our nails she was amazingly nice and not rushed. She was very well informed, my nails had been short and she offered advice to get them to grow. Sherry did our toes and made us both feel very comfortable. My daughter is 12 and they treated her like a princess. We traveled 1.5 hours to come here and we have already booked to come back! I was so happy and relieved to find a salon that is up on all of the latest hair coloring trends and also receive the best haircut I've in YEARS! I moved up to the Adirondacks recently and was terrified to let anyone touch my hair. I made a haircut appointment for 12:45PM on a Saturday. When I arrived I was told the stylist was running about 15 minutes behind. I could hear her talking away to her client. At 1:15PM I was told someone else would wash my hair, although it was clear from the stylist's conversation, it was not ending anytime soon. I said I'd cancel my appointment. When I got picked up at the salon 45 minutes after my schedule appt, with no haircut, the stylist could still be heard talking to the earlier client. At no point did the stylist come out and say she was sorry she was running late. She apparently was too busy talking. not The woman at the reception desk did apologize and was nice. read more

This is by far the best salon in Lake Placid. Holly is an amazingly talented stylist with an incredible flair for color and highlights. She's had a past of celebrity clientele and continues to maintain it. Also a big fan of Courtney who has done many of my color treatments. Had a horrible experience. First, appointment took hours longer than what they had said and STILL didn't get to cut. Way over processed my hair which took forever to grow out, coloring was awful. I contacted owner and she wanted me to see the same person which I refused....why would I let her ruin my hair even more? I ended up going to a different salon and the professional there literally cried with me over how bad it was...some of my hair was literally blue. I also got a manicure, which peeled the next day ...I've gotten gel a hundred times and never had a problem. Went back and they "fixed it" only to have it peel again in a few days. The lady who did my nails didn't seem to have much experience doing nails. Although, the environment was nice and the people were friendly.

I have been with Frank for years and I love what he does to my hair. I usually let him do whatever when it comes to my cut and he's great with color...especially when it gets fun! The one thing that I love about River Rock is they now use a more natural hair coloring from Redken so no more yucky smells. Pricing is expensive but not more than other salons in the area. read more

I'm disappointed because the lady that did my hair scheduled another Appointment to close to mine so she ended up rushing my hair dye job. It washed out much faster than she said it would because she didn't let the dye sit long enough. Now I'm stuck with color on the pieces of hair that she did first under neath and the top of my hair is back to blonde. For the amount of money I spent on this she should have made sure it was done with care. read more

My husband and I were visiting Lake Placid for a wedding. Due to the timing of the event I planned to get a manicure in Lake Placid. I was able to make a reservation at River Rock, for the day of... Which was great. However, when I walked in and saw the polish choices I was less then thrilled, all were at least at half a bottle and they were old. I picked a color which was streaky after two coats. The nail tech agreed that three coats were needed. Almost two hours after leaving the salon I was getting ready for the event and my manicure completely came off - the Polish was old and thick and just wiped off my nails. I did call the salon and they refunded my money... (Minus tip). Needless to say, a disappointing experience. read more

While the staff was very friendly and accommodating, my manicure did not turn out well. Four days after I got it, two nails peeled completely off. She didn't shape the nails at all, and the gel was lumpy on the end. Most of my nails didn't have the polish going all the way to the edge, which I'm sure is why they came off. I had to get my manicure redone elsewhere less than a week later. There aren't a lot of options in the area which is why I came here, and left very disappointed, ultimately having to pay for two manicures. read more

I cannot begin to explain how amazing this salon is; not just as a salon, but as human beings. Courtnie and Holly worked a complete miracle. Just as I was losing hope with humanity and finding a hairdresser in the 'dacks, they brought me back like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Without getting into detail let me preface this with the fact that a week prior I had the most horrendous haircut and color I've ever experienced in my life from a salon in Saranac Lake. I was devastated, and that says quite a bit because I'm not one to fuss over hair. I called River Rock and was all booked up to fix the mess that was my hair on Wednesday of next week. In the meantime, my daughter needed a haircut, however, River Rock was all booked up so we found another salon in Lake Placid to cut her hair. I was utterly shocked at how horrible of a haircut she received. I brought it to the hairdresser's attention and she said, "oh, I can fix that up." I declined, thanked her and sat in my car crying, trying to figure out what to do as we had a wedding to go to in a matter of hours. On a whim, I drove over to River Rock hoping they could help, and not only did they help my daughter, but they saw my hair, and fixed it on the spot EVEN though they were completely booked solid. I was and am blown away by their compassion and expertise. They restored my faith in humanity and hairdressers. Recently relocated to Keene Valley from Atlanta and Naples, Florida where there are so many great salons and stylists to choose from . I believe when it comes to men's haircuts generally you get what u pay for and that a high quality cut by a stylist can make a big difference in your appearance compared to a barbershop cut provided you get a talented person who is committed to excellence. Was delighted to find Courtnie who is as talented an artist as anyone who has ever cut my hair . She was on time , she was friendly and engaging , she listened to me , and the cut looked amazing . Little hard to communicate with but really nice. The person they have do makeup though them is amazing!

Was visiting and had some time to kill, so I decided to get my nails done. Google only showed two options, this being one of them. I went in and they told me I had to make an appointment, so I did for about an hour later. The woman did well on my nails, but they don't have many choices for higher end nail polishes (not much selection in general). Also paid over 20 dollars for a normal manicure without any exfoliation, just lotion, cuticle care, and paint. It was over double what I pay at home for the same service (and better at that with more quality nail polish). They were nice and the salon was modern, but definitely over priced. read more
