Dug her grave out back, Sara was kind enough to carry her limp body down the stairs for me after it was all over.

I miss this place so much…read more I found my dog Lucy after she was tossed out by some a-hole when she was about 6 weeks old. I brought her to Shallowford Animal Hospital at the suggestion of a friend and was blown away. It's very clean, the staff is kind and accommodating, and they definitely take advantage of 21st century technology, with computer in the exam rooms and a very convenient monthly automated billing system. Their wellness packages are totally comprehensive and very reasonably priced, especially since it meant that all her preventative services were included and would be taken care of. Their staff at the front desk are amazing, by the way - they have listened to me freak out hysterically after my dog was injured and have gotten me last minute appointments on more than one occasion, plus they are great with email correspondence which is oftentimes a lot more convenient for me. I have seen both Dr. Mabe and Dr. Bearden and found them both to be incredibly attentive and patient, which is helpful when you have a 50lb spaz dog like mine. I have also brought dogs to them that I have fostered, and I have recommended them to all my friends, even the ones who don't have pets. Sadly I had to move away for grad school, and I suspect my standards may be set a little too high after this since I'm not sure another vet will live up to the experience I've had here. But if I ever make it back to the Noog this will be one of our first stops.

Had an appt. Got there early. I did ALL paperwork online before I arrived, and I was asked (as…read more"confirmations") the very same questions. I was early, and they did go ahead and put me in a room with my pet. Problem is it was a 1/2 hour past my appointment time, and I finally left the room and my pet to confirm my appt. I told them I'd wait another 15 mins (would have been 45 mins past my appt time). So, the front desk clerk (technician?) apparently went to the only doctor working that day, and the doctor said it's going to be more than 45 mins (past my appt time) -- maybe longer before I would get seen. Mind you, I arrived early and all my paperwork was complete. I told the tech that I'd go ahead and leave. They said, "Well, yes, we can make you another appointment." I said, "No, I won't be coming back here." I spent all that time doing the paperwork and packing my pet up to go to the appointment, and that's it. How would you feel if this happened to you? OK, I get it, you may have only one doctor there that day; however, you are all about texting/phoning the client, so, why didn't you give me text/call letting me know the situation (they had no shortage of people up front), and I could have rescheduled without having to go to the appointment, to only sit there all that time. My pet was in the carrier the whole time, and was more concerned about it than my time. There was no engagement with the techs up front. I had to do all the engaging and asking questions. Noone ever came to check up on me or anything until I started engaging with them (being proactive) 30 minutes into my wait. I will hopefully find a good, engaging, economical veterinarian for my pet, in the Chattanooga area. I will use Yelp to help me find the best that my pet deserves. I'm being generous giving two stars on this one.

I first boarded my cat for a little over a week in the summer, and she did great. They allow you to call and check in on your pet if you are nervous. Then, I recently took her in for a dental surgery that they recommended. I cannot overstate how grateful I am for their care! First they had us meet with a technician who was more than happy to take our questions. They called me as soon as the procedure was over and the doctor I spoke with was exceptionally nice and reassuring about the state of my pet. My cat's recovery went better than I could've hoped for... she took a pain pill for 3 days and now is completely back to normal. And I can't forget the people at the front desk, always so kind and efficient. Thank you Whitesburg!!

I would strongly caution anyone against bringing a critically ill pet here without doing extensive…read moreresearch first. We brought our beautiful Golden Retriever to VEG ER after she began vomiting and stopped eating. We were told she had a bowel obstruction and would likely die without immediate emergency surgery. The quoted cost was approximately $9,000. We were presented with what were described as "financial assistance options," which consisted of credit applications. Those were not viable for us at the time. While low-cost clinics were briefly mentioned, we were told they were closed or would not be able to see her in time. No help with transport was offered. Because this was described as a time-sensitive emergency, we were left understanding that we had only three choices: 1. Euthanize our dog 2. Pay in full before surgery 3. Surrender her to a rescue so she could receive care We later learned information that we were not aware of at the time and that would have significantly changed how we approached this situation, including: 1. The possibility of payment being accepted after care was completed. We were told payment was required before surgery would begin. The following day, we were informed that surgery had already been completed before any payment was made. 2. Potential partnerships with nonprofit organizations that may be able to assist with emergency veterinary costs without requiring surrender of ownership. 3. The option of having additional time to attempt to crowdsource funds. A loving, bonded home facing one unexpected financial crisis was treated as less viable than surrendering our dog to strangers, and that was deeply painful. In order to save our dog's life, we made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. She survived surgery and is alive, but we are permanently separated from her. Our children do not understand why their dog is gone, and the emotional toll has been devastating. What made this even harder was seeing the situation later characterized publicly as abandonment, which does not reflect our experience or intentions. We did not abandon our dog, we sacrificed our place in her life so she could live. That distinction matters. I believe we were given incomplete or unclear information during a moment of crisis, and that lack of clarity removed meaningful choices when time and communication mattered most. Emergency medicine is not only about medical care, but also about communication, compassion, and advocacy. In our experience, we did not feel supported in exploring every possible path to keep our dog while navigating an impossible situation. If you ever find yourself in a similar emergency, I strongly encourage researching alternatives and seeking a second opinion if possible. We went in trusting that we were being shown every option. Looking back, we do not feel that was the case. Rest assured we are looking into filing a written complaint with the state's veterinary licensing board. I have attached a documentation of lies written by the vet we had the misfortune of meeting last week.
