    South Holston River Guide Service

    South Holston River Guide Service

Seeking a memorable fly fishing experience via a guided drift boat on the South Holston River (or…read moreeven the Watauga River)? Look no further. The South Holston River Guide Service is your means to an enjoyable and unforgettable outing. Guide Ronnie Kittredge knows how to put his customers onto trout! His expertise is only eclipsed by his outgoing personality. You will feel not only welcomed, but appreciated. Ronnie is not about the money. He is about his customers having a good time fly fishing! His rate for a full day of guided drift boat fishing is among the most economical in the region (please visit the web site). Again, Ronnie is not about the money. He is customer-oriented. He provides solid mentoring and instruction. He can row a drift boat very effectively even in gusty winds. For the full day package, he provides a Jersy Mike's sub, chips, and beverages. He has plenty of bottled water and Gatorade aboard. Oh, he takes lots of pictures of his clients with their catch. He records live footage as well as still photos of his customers. Ronnie's has a keen eye for spotting rising trout. He will pull out his dry fly rod and put you within range. He will even tell you when to set the hook, if necessary. Ronnie is great at rigging fly rods for different purposes - dry fly, nymphs, streamers, and other combinations. Ronnie is not afraid to try new tactics, unique approaches, creative ideas, etc. Sure, he uses traditional methods, but he is also receptive to new techniques. He thinks both inside and outside the box. Ronnie is not afraid to guide on "high water" or other challenging conditions. Discuss it with Ronnie first. My experience with Ronnie was on water released at 4100 cubic feet per second (cfs)!! That was a historic high (so I was told). We still caught double digit numbers of fish each day (I went for two days). Ronnie knows how to catch trout in less than optimal conditions. You will not be disappointed.

Who woulda thunk it? I'm always leery when I think of staying in cabins for the holidays, but…read moreWatauga River Cabins was a lovely stay for our family! We managed to snag the top loft around the Holiday season. To top it off, this place is pet-friendly, no questions asked and no pet deposit. This is an incredible perk for families traveling with their fur babies. Because they recognized that pets are family too, we took extra care to clean up after our pets on the property when they did their business outdoors. Not sure if they care about dog poop on the land, but may we suggest a small station for doggie poop bags? Also something to consider, we frequently saw loose dogs from the surrounding area running on the property and road, so we recommend being aware of this if your pet doesn't do well around loose dogs. Our cabin was approximately 600 square feet, had a gas fireplace (awesome!!!!!!), and we were right on the edge of the Watauga River. The land surrounding the cabin is lovely and the sound of the rushing river water is absolutely refreshing. The cabin comes with everything you would need for your stay: extra towels and bedding, extra spices, condiments, and coffee, a nice laundry facility on the ground floor, firewood for the camp fire outside, and an awesome grill and outdoor facility with plenty of seating on the river's edge. Our dogs loved romping in the lake. The only thing that the cabin didn't have was shampoo/conditioner, but there was plenty of soap in the bathroom and kitchen. The water heater worked great, so there was no issue with hot showers or hot water in the kitchen sink. Once you get the fireplace roaring, it's wonderful being able to settle in with a hot mug of coffee, free fast wifi, and satellite TV. Everything during our stay was perfect. We would definitely book this cabin again in the future for the holidays.
