After completing the Swamp Rabbit trail in Greenville South Carolina, my family and I decided to explore downtown Greenville walking the lively streets. I was in the mood for some homemade soft-serve ice cream. To our surprise we stumbled upon River Streets Sweets- an homemade candy and ice cream confectionery located in the heart of downtown Greenville. I was in Oh, with the desserts they had ranging from candy, fudge, chocolate covered apples, soft-serve ice cream, popcorn, nuts, chocolate covered pretzels/marshmallows, and so much more. Thankfully my family was there because I would have bought everything-it's a child's dream. At last I got the soft-serve ice cream I was craving all day. Let me tell you, the ice cream, gelato, and sorbet were truly homemade. To my surprise the prices were not as pricey considering they were in downtown Greenville. My family got two scoops in a cup costing $7.95 a single scoop is $4.95. The scoops are a decent size for the price you are paying. River Streets Sweets has some unique flavors that I have never heard of before, such as Bear Claw, Blueberry, Hazelnut Coffee Crunch, and Pink Grapefruit. They also serve Raspberry Sorbet sugar-free which is nice. My family decided to get Rocky Road and Bear Claw. The ice cream was so rich, creamy, and flavorful. It did not taste artificial like some ice creams in supermarkets. My whole family was pleased with the purchase. The staff were extremely friendly, especially the one member who was mending the ice cream section. She was so kind and energetic, letting my family sample the flavors before purchasing, which a lot of food businesses do not do. In addition, to my surprise, the store was huge, leaving plenty of space to walk around without running into other customers. The store was organized, making it easy to see all the yummy treats. There was no visible dirt or dust, the businesses looked polished.The only downfall would be the parking situation, since they are located in the heart of Greenville parking is limited. I would recommend walking and parking in a free or reduced parking area. The next time I am in downtown Greenville or around the area, I will be stopping by River Streets Sweets to indulge in some of their other sweet treats, such as their fudge and chocolate covered apples. I would recommend checking out River Streets Sweets if you are in the area. read more

Somehow River Street Sweets didn't make it on my to do list in Greenville but I happened to be walking by as they were opening and putting out the sign on the sidewalk. I made note to stop there on my way back so that I didn't need to carry my purchases. When I returned I was warmly greeted and given a generous sample of a praline. I was still planning to buy them but do think it is a great business practice to let customers sample the product. Besides the pralines you can get chocolates, caramel apples, popcorn, candy; and ive cream. I left with chocolate pralines and original pralines. The owner even suggested that I needed to try putting them in the microwave for 9 seconds to make them taste as they were freshly made. It worked so well and made the chocolate creamy. I also returned to the store later on for the banana pudding ice cream I spotted which I was told was a best seller. The friendliest clerk convinced me to make it a double and let me sample so many flavors to find a good second flavor to go with it. I went with vanilla. It was a nice treat to end the day after being locked out of my hotel room. read more

These are the very best pralines outside of Savannah! I prefer the regular praline loaded with pecans, but they also have a chocolate version. I dare you to leave River Street Sweets Savannah's Candy Kitchen is a mouthful, but that more than matches their sweets, which are also great, flavorful mouthfuls! Talk about kid in a candy store, these guys have pretty much everything you could hope from, from chocolates, to caramels, to gummies to taffies, and things like ice cream and chocolates add on to the list, but by no means completes it! One of my favorite flavors in this candy shop actually wasn't candy, but instead it was their grapefruit sherbert. How unexpectedly delicious this scoop was! A close second was their watermelon sorbet, which made us smile with each spoonful. Parking here at River street sweets is just as challenging as many of the locations off of Main street. In fact, we parked a few blocks away and stumbled on this gem while walking along the sidewalk. You'll likely have to do the same unless you're lucky enough to score a spot much closer. I entered this store and it was pure delight. Someone came in with a dog and hugged an employee which prompted me to ask if it was dog friendly as my husband was outside with our 2 dogs. To my delight they said well behaved dogs were welcomed! We bought some ice cream and gelato and it was incredible. I had raspberry and the flavor was so true. I really wanted to like the sweets here but being limited to sugar free was a definite disadvantage. I got one piece of each of the s/f candies and a cup of s/f raspberry sorbet. The candy had obviously been sitting a long time and was stale. The chocolate tasted funky (small bites from most of them) while the sorbet was very crumbly (over spun). The employees were extremely nice and helpful and the store itself was like walking right into the past. If the products I bought were comparable to the staff and ambiance this store would have scored a 5 star rating for sure! read more

Employees were enticing people out on the street with praline samples to come check out the new candy store on Main Street. Of course we went in, and were amazed with the ambiance of the store. Everything was clean and plentiful, along with 50s music playing in the background making you feel like you were a "kid in a candy store" again. There was even a salt water taffy tower which reminded me of beach days in Ocean City, NJ. We decided to get some loose chocolates that were rung up by the weight. They were absolutely delicious, but very expensive. For 4 chocolates, we paid $9. I guess for the experience and quality, it's to be expected. This is a brand new place, and likely to be overwhelmed if you show up and it's early days. However, it is so worth it. There are wonderful smells, free samples, and lots of delicious things you're going to want to take home with you. The signature attraction is the pralines. They make those up front. And they were offering samples when we came through the door. They're always delicious, but even more so when served warm. There are a dizzying array of sweets in this place. It all looks so good. There are some packaged goods, but most things seem to be sold by the pound. The staff seemed knowledgeable and they were able to answer all of our questions. But come on, working in a candy shop has to be a pretty sweet deal right? In the back of the store is an ice cream, gelato, sorbet stand. It is small, but the flavors were really outstanding. Again, they offered free samples until we were ready to make a selection. I had my daughter with me and we tried quite a few different flavors. My final choice was pink grapefruit, and hers was key lime. They were both over the top. this store was friendly, inviting, and smelled so very good. I am sure they will do extremely well in the heart of downtown Greenville. I am looking forward to taking my extended family there when they visit during the next holiday. read more

Ok, so giving River Sweets is driven with mixed feelings. The sweets...so good! The Caramel Apples with Pecans are delicious! The concept (old school sweets) is cool! The weird part... The staff that maintains the prep area for the apples and covered candies never seems to know what is going on. It's the strangest thing...they either have no idea how to respond to a question or they will send you back and forth to the other counter where you pay. Then when you get to the payment counter they will send you back to the prep counter. It's bizarre to say the least. I thought it was me, but friends of mine and other patrons went through the same process. The shop doesn't seem to have a handle on how many Caramel or Candy apples to make in advance, so there were apples sitting around, which had the appearance of being old or around for too long. Certainly, having 40+ pre-made Caramel Apples can't be a good idea. During my first visit it was a major ordeal just to get one freshly prepared Caramel apple with Pecans. (March 24). Fast forward to April 11 - there were NO fresh Caramel Apples available. It seem like the guy behind the counter (the only area in the shop where you could find the covered apples) he seemed to have absolutely no idea what to say when someone asked him for an apple. Just gave the blank face. I don't know, if they need better training, better management is more like it, but I was very disappointed to see this cute little shop very obviously falling apart! read more

We bought a caramel apple today. As the clerk was putting it in the box, the caramel looked wet and was sliding off the apple. We questioned the freshness and another employee looked at the date it was prepared and assured us it was good. When we got it home we discovered the caramel was very very soft and falling apart and apple old and mushy. We are from out of town and will not be back in Greenville for another month. We were told to bring it back then. A lot of work for a $9 apple! read more

Very cute sweet shop with a great atmosphere. The customer service was great. Went in and was immediately offered several samples of pralines (which were delicious) but I went with the gelato. I got coconut and pumpkin spice and was very pleased. The serving size was quite large and unlike some gelato that can be overwhelming their gelato was sweet and easy on the palette. I will have to go back and try their candy apples which looked amazing. read more
