I called at 6:50 trying to make it to work to staples from priscilla flanders and i didnt have to be there until 7:45 the driver still continued to pick somebody else after i said i had to be on time to work and he told me to call the taxi number while i was already in the taxi . The lady said 20 minutes when i first called for the taxi . I understand there was only 2 drivers but the lady at the front desk who always picks up the phone was extremely rude after i explained to her i couldn't be late to work . These drivcers are wreckless. Yesterday, May 6th one of their drivers caused an accident with a mail truck in Polish Town. Today, I saw one driving down my road in John Wesley Village 2, against a one-way AND speeding. This is a 55 and over community and the POSTED speed limit is 10mph. Here is one for the books. I called the night before for a 530am pickup for a trip to Southampton Hospital for surgery. They accepted the assignment so I was quite surprised that at 5am I received a call telling me the driver was outside because his shift ends at 6am and he needed to pick me up early. I explained that I wasnt ready and to tell the driver to wait. They said sorry, the driver was leaving. Left me stranded---except for my ace in hole. I called Uber.. No problem. No issue---same price. Interesting side bar as to why I didnt call uber earlier. I wanted to support the 'home team'. Obviously Riverhead Taxi has not a clue how poor their service and reputation is. How can I leave leas than one star? One of their drivers, literally nearly side swiped our vehicle, coming into our lane on CR 58. The guy was practically laying in the backseat as he drove. We leaned on horn...he totally ignored us and we were run off road. We called dispatch. His car number was some piece of crap black van #137. Dispatch was beyond rude. My husband said this guy was a menace on the road and was either high or sleeping. She asked us for a description. My husband gave description of vehicle and driver as she asked. She then said, "you said he is black, you're a racist". Mind you, my husband is a person of color. She hung up. No care that they have an impaired or reckless driver on the road. Word of warning. There's no place for a ZERO STAR, so one, it is. The Prius was disgusting, looked like leftover animal slaughter stains from years ago. The driver chain smoked to keep awake, stopped for gas, and his mask on his lap was at one time white, now looked like baby shit gray. In addition, the seat belts didn't have a piece to clip into. Drivers are rude, unprofessional, NEVER EVER EVER on time, cars are filthy and smell like an ashtray. The seats are stained, and usually wet from drink spillage, and the floors are covered in dirt. The drivers are known to be addicts and one driver was a known meth user, he died last year, but had gotten into multiple car accidents and was still allowed to drive for the company. Drivers allow passengers to smoke while riding and also pick up multiple people during a trip with 4 passengers in 1 car. The WORST and most UNTRUSTWORTHY company, that should have their license revoked. read more

Where do I begin? First of all, I was accused by one driver of not paying another driver who picked us up at the Courthouse. No one is in Riverhead for any good reason typically. I was having a terrible day. It was pouring out. I realized I had left my expensive eyeglasses on the seat of the car. I called and the dispatcher was kind enough to let me know that the driver had indeed found them. When I called the driver he screamed: "I ain't got no glasses!" This left me to have to replace them at my own expense! I have a good mind to bill them, and if they refuse, take the company to Small Claims. I know this cab company has that area sewed up, and you probably won't have much of a transportation choice, except maybe Uber, but be forewarned, these guys have got to be on drugs. Today, a driver ripped me off, said a local fare was $60.00 (I was quoted by dispatch it would be $18.00--$24.00,) that didn't include tip & he couldn't take a card. I'm in town for a funeral. I paid him $60.00 cash (3 $20. bills plus $10. tip, $70.00 total) but knew it was wrong so I called the company, a rep named Scott said he spoke to manager who was supposed to call me but never did, driver told him I paid him 2 $20.00 bills plus a $10.00 tip, total $50.00, still a lie & huge overcharge & the driver himself would call me back. Wonder why my phone's not ringing. I also filed complaint with front desk of hotel I'm staying at, told them what happened & they shouldn't recommend this outfit to customers. A 15 minute ride was $30! Uber was $11, but I prefer an established taxi company. When I arrived at my destination, the inarticulate woman told me the MINIMUM fee I could charge to my Visa was $50. I had to ask her to repeat it a few times as her mastery of the English language was so poor (not because she was was from another country, but because she was dumb). She asked if I was going to give a $20 tip! I was shocked. I travel all over the world and live in Boston (the last place to accept credit cards) and these pieces of garbage are even worse than the Boston cab services. No wonder Uber/Lyft are eating your lunch! Take a chance on Uber/Lyft...never again!!!!! BTW..I gave the driver a $10 tip since this was not his fault and I can expense the charge, so financially I am not impacted, but the service is horrible!!!!! Walk or find another ride!!! read more

ASK FOR THE FARE BEFORE GETTING IN THE CAR. IF IT'S UNREASONABLE, DON'T RIDE AND CALL ANOTHER TAXI. Better yet, call another taxi anyway. My experience was similar to that of other reviewers. Called for a taxi from my hotel in Jamesport to a location 1 mile away. Was told to be ready in ten minutes, and the taxi came in twenty. At my destination, I was told that the fare was $20. I refused to pay more than $10 for a three-minute cab ride. I then called the dispatcher, who immediately threatened to call the police and have them arrest me for "theft of services." I was more angry than spooked, but after ten minutes of arguing, I left the money and split, because it wasn't worth the hassle. Could I have done something differently to avoid this fate? For one, I could have checked Yelp. But my best tack would have been to ask the fare over the phone. I didn't because my taxi from the Riverhead train station to my Jamesport hotel two days prior was a reasonable $12, leading me to assume that this short ride within Jamesport would be comparable if not less. When I explained this during our argument, the dispatcher told me that the additional charge was for the trip from the car's home base in Riverhead to Jamesport. But the fare from Riverhead to Jamesport is $12 as it stands, so how can it make sense to charge $12 from Riverhead to Jamesport, then $8 from Jamesport to Jamesport? The logic here fails; it is clear that this company is simply and unashamedly tricking riders into paying double, gouging because there's a lack of competition in the area. I've never heard of a taxi fare that begins before the passenger gets in the car. This company practices deception through omission by not telling you the fare before picking you up. Ask for the fare when you call. If it's unfair, don't ride. There are other taxis to call. read more

Wanted to go from Jamesport to Cutchogue at about 9:00 this past Saturday. They said it was a 90 minute wait and wanted $95!!!!!!!!!! Uber should put these thieves out of business. And rightly so. Total distance we wanted to go was 7.6 miles. I checked Uber and it was a 15 minute wait and $12.48. I hear Lyft is available also according to their website. read more

If you have any complaints about taxis in the Town of Riverhead, contact the Riverhead Town Clerk at (631) 727-3200 to file a complaint as per the town code. They issue the taxi permits. They should also forward the complaint to the police department who does the cab company inspections. read more

TERRIBLE! Friday night my wife and I took Riverhead Town Taxi from the recommendation of the hotel we stayed at. First of all the guy showed up like almost 10 minutes late and we called 35 minutes before. The guy made a long drawn out excuse. The cab STUNK of stale cigarettes. We are going to a nice dinner and the cab stinks of cigarettes... And the cab driver was driving very very fast and the back seat belts were missing. And then we get told the cab ride which was literally 4 miles was $30.00 PER WAY! I would never recommend and use them again. read more

Would not recommend. I've been cut off and almost sideswipped by these guys weaving in and out of lanes doing over 70mph...and rudely hit on by one of the male drivers driving an SUV. Dottie is a HORRIBLE woman!! We tried using this service as a shuttle for the guests at our wedding from the hotel to the reception and they gave us a good rate initially but then they turned the tables on us to charge us double the DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING. Do NOT use this taxi company. Called for a cab with a specific pick-up time. No car 10min after agreed time. Recalled company and was screamed at, with foul language, stating that I didn't know my address! Of course I do and was waiting by the mailbox. Turns out he didn't know that the numbers on this particular street do NOT go in order. Unbelievable! Found out from the driver, that the intake guy on the phone had only called him a few minutes before he showed up. So, the guy forgot to send out the call and then yelled at me because HE didn't know his own map! It's called GPS and customer service! So nasty and offensive. This company is a disgrace. Because they have a monopoly in the area they charge absurd prices. The driver drove 6 of us from the East Wind to the Great Rock golf course restaurant for dinner, which according to Google maps is .04 miles, and they charged us $60 dollars. We told the driver that it was a RIDICULOUS price for the distance he took us he told us there was nothing he could do about it so we asked him to call his dispatcher so we could complain. When we talked to the dispatcher he couldn't have cared less. We also told the dispatcher that we were going to give the company a lousy review on yelp but that didn't faze him either. Had an emergency today & couldn't pick up a family member at work, Riverhead Town Taxi was able to pick him up for me even though it was over 10 miles away, and was short notice. Their rates seem reasonable, we'll use them again if needed. read more

I would give them -1 stars if I could. First the cars are old and smell like smoke. Second the dispatch person is the rudest and also most idiotic people I know. I was travelling for work and wanted to use a credit card - the dispatch person said he couldnt do it unless it was $50 charge - my fare was going to be $20 so I said let me pay for round trip and add $10 tip, he said since I was coming back later that day it was a different shift so he could not do it, he said his boss was out of the country and since they had large credit card fees their rule was $50 minimum, I offered to pay what ever credit card charge they incurred and he said he didn't want to get in trouble (that is where he is an idiot) and then hung up on me. He got my room number wrong so the driver couldn't get in touch with me and was yelling at his drivers over the radio. I refuse to ever take them and if I was you I would not take them either - talk about zero customer service. When the boss gets back from Pakistan he should fire that dolt. read more
