All along neither of us…read morehave really trusted or liked him that much, but he wasn't bad mostly, and changing dentists is stressful and difficult enough that we just kept going to him. We've had a growing suspicion that he looks for extra work to do, extra "problems" to solve at great cost, beyond what may have actually been necessary. And recently I had an experience with him that was bad enough to push me to find a new dentist and write this review. I had a painful tooth with a somewhat-old crown. Neither had any flaws visible on x-ray, but Holland insisted the crown needed to be replaced. I complied, not knowing any better. After the very expensive new crown, the pain got MUCH worse over the course of a week or so. I needed a root canal--and the only way to perform it now was to drill a hole in my new large gold crown. Of course then he filled the hole with ****ing mercury amalgam. Turns out it is totally common for root canals to be necessary when doing multiple crowns; and turns out I probably needed one from a while before; and turns out those roots are useless for adults anyway, so removing them is not especially to be avoided. He should have known the pain could have been the root, and that there is no better time to remove the root than when removing an old crown anyway; and he should have advised me of this. I went through weeks of intense pain, and spent about $1000, and wasted a lot of time dealing with multiple visits, and ended up with a sub-par crown, most of which could have minimized if he had not made a very bad judgment call. Is it the end of the world? No. Would I win a lawsuit against him? No. Is he the world's worst dentist? No. But after something like this, especially when I cannot trust his judgment, will he ever touch my teeth again? Hell NO.

I saw Dr. Holland a lot a few years ago when, as a young adult, I finally had an income where I…read morecould put money into some dental work I had needed since I was a teenager. First I had a tooth that needed to be replaced, then a bunch of cavities needed to be filled. At first they were great. Dr. Holland was always really fast and pleasant. I came to their office because my tooth replacement was "cosmetic" dental and they were on my insurance. The front desk was really helpful and they were up front and clear about the cost so I liked that. A lot of the assistants at his office that worked with me were either still in dental school or new grads. I love students, in fact I am one. But on one particular day I had an assistant that was absolutely terrible. I needed impressions for a flipper denture while my implant healed and she had to re-do the mold so many times that I lost count. When I went home that day I looked like the joker. My mouth was cracked, sore, and I had difficulty eating for a week. Maybe if this office weren't so expensive that would have been acceptable. I later found out that the implant crown was much more than I expected, which is my fault for not understanding the fees. I ended up finding another dentist to make the crown for about half as much as Dr. Holland was charging, and they did a really great job. Here's the bad part. I had multiple fillings done in between having my implant prepared. They did it in a few rounds and they were fast and painless which I liked. Later, one of my teeth gave me a sharp pain when I bit down. I called in and they said this was normal, that if it didn't "cool down" in a few days I could come back in and they would file it down a bit to ride my bite better. And so it began. I came back in at least 5 times (probably more, I literally lost count) to have that tooth corrected, each time they filed a little bit more down, each time I waited a few days for it to stop hurting and each time the pain persisted. Pain that wasn't even there before I had the filling. This went on for two years. By the third year I had to suggest he re-do the filling completely. He did, and it still did not correct the problem. The whole time they were very understanding and did all of this correction free of charge which I appreciated. Dr. Holland was usually very nice but at my (decidedly) last visit he was absolutely rude to me. He looked at my teeth, said that I had problems grinding my teeth (bruxism) and that was the reason why his filling wasn't working. It was literally my fault. They told me to buy a night guard - about $500 from their office. I ended up seeing another dentist who fixed the tooth with no incident and for MUCH less money. I was willing to shell out the money for an exam with them but contacted Dr. Holland's office about refunding me for the filling on the one tooth. They responded quickly and agreed to give me the money I paid out of pocket for the filling (about $100). I confirmed my contact information and they said they'd send me a check. Two months later and I realized there was no check. So I emailed them again. And again. Then I called and left a message. Then I called and spoke with the front desk and left a message for the office manager. Then I emailed them asking for a reply otherwise I'd seek legal assistance. Still no reply! This went on for about 6 months because I have a life things to do besides hassle my ex-dentist for the refund they promised me. I'm not a very assertive person, maybe if I were I would have stormed in to the place insisting the very small refund they agreed to. I ended up getting a lawyer for something else and they offered to assist me. They did and I finally received a check a month later. I am so freaking happy this is all over and I can put it behind me. If I could report his office to the Oregon Dental Association I would, but I found out he's not a member.

I have been going to Moj for 6 years now. This is a remarkable office, and Moj and the people she…read morehires have a delicate touch and are quite compassionate in their care. Bonnie, who is retiring at the end of the year, has been so precise in cleaning my teeth. She is so detail oriented that I always got the best cleaning possible. Knowing Moj's management skills, I am sure whoever comes to replace her will be just as good as the other oral hygienists and will be trained appropriately. When I have needed treatment beyond basic cleaning, they've always explained the options to me, let me know what would be covered by insurance and what wouldn't. Additionally, they've let me know when I can anticipate a current condition training it is some thing more difficult, and that has allowed me to plan both financially and in terms of overall care. Moreover, she has always taken the approach of doing the least that is necessary.

This dentist failed to suggest a crown on a root canal tooth which then fractured and broke off…read morecompletely. I had to go to another dentist and have a build up and crown. The dentist that repaired it (along with another consulting dentist) was appalled that it hadn't been crowned for protection. To add insult to injury, Dr Rostamian insisted the tooth had a crown on it. Dr. Rostamian is not shy about suggesting expensive restorative services but on one crown replacement didn't find the need to offer me my old gold crown. Also, this practice failed to suggest protecting my four front teeth (behind veneers) with a night guard as the dentin is now exposed. I wonder what else is in store for me after years of neglect.
