I had a dog for twelve years. Your staff didn't know her, but I did. She's been my best friend since I was twelve. She was family. I gave you a four because you handled putting her to sleep well, but I'm not thrilled that two different members of your staff called her the wrong name. One didn't even know that Nona was a she. That hurt, a lot. I would ask that your staff look over the information better, so that you don't hurt somebody more than they already are. read more

I now live in the Midland area and after multiple bad experiences with the treatment of my cats and dogs at other vets we have for the past 15 years driven back to Big Rapids and Dr. Scott for our pets. We trust no one else! You will not find a more considerate and loving staff. They always treat our pets like family, listening to any concerns we may have and providing us with options and answers. Back story we adopted out pup on 6/23/20. He is a German Short Hair/Boarder Collie mix. We do not have human children, so he his consider to be our kid. Therefore we take his health very serious. We moved to Montcalm County, and decided to take him to Riversbend. His first visit I was taken back to an exam room, then my pup was taken to the back. I had never been to a Vet where the Veterinarian does not do the exam in the room. I did not feel comfortable but I thought if they did a good job it would be ok. That same appointment a vet tech recommended I put him on anxiety medication because he was nervous to get his nails trimmed. 8/9/2022 I was home with my pup, when he had a seizure. This terrified me, he has never had one nor have any of my previous dogs. So I loaded him up in the truck and rushed to the vet. On my way I tried calling numerous times, with no answer. Finally someone answered and said, "could you please hold." I said no and proceeded to tell them what was going on. Their response, "well I guess if you are on your way you can bring him in." I arrived and spoke to client service representative, Jennifer Kailing. Jennifer was rude from the beginning and tells me they do not have an appointment until 2, it was 1215 at this time. I wasn't happy but I understood. Jennifer proceeded to say, "I could go run errands" during my wait time. Yes, I am going to go to Meijer, leave my pup in the car, just after he had a seizure, not to mention it was 85 degrees out. Again, I was concerned for my pup and asked if he could have gotten into something that caused the seizure. Jennifer responded with, "I DON'T KNOW, COULD HE HAVE GOTTEN INTO SOMETHING?" Clearly that statement alone made me extremely upset. I may have asked the question wrong but for her to be completely dismissive and incredibly rude, when you could clearly tell I was upset, just shocked me. I said I wanted the appointment and we went out to my truck and sat in the air until 155. We walked back in and Jennifer says, "I will get you checked in." Well pet after pet is taken back to exam rooms. 245 we are still waiting and finally Jennifer comes over and says, "I'm sorry something happened with the computer and I did not see you were still sitting here". Finally it is our turn, they weigh my pup, he was 58 pounds. (this will be important later) My pup sees Dr. Joseph Scott, never had him before. And again my pup is taken to the back to have an exam completed. Dr comes in talks about my pup and said his blood work came back normal and he is healthy. In my 2 hour and 45 minute wait I was able to do some research. Dr says it appeared my pup had epilepsy because of his breed. One seizure and he determines epilepsy. I asked if it could have been an outside factor, such as a strong smell. Dr says it could but "don't jump to conclusions." I thought to myself, isn't that what he is doing? I check out and they took 60 dollars off my 260.00 dollar bill and a free nail trim voucher, "because I waited so long". I would have preferred kind and courtesy service. Moving forward my pup had his yearly visit scheduled for 8/23. I did not want to keep this appointment, as I had already found a new Vet. But that appointment was not until 9/8/22, so I wanted to get his heart worm medication. I called Riversbend and asked them to get the heart worm medication ready and a family member would be picking it up. I get home the medication is for up to 50 pounds, my pup is 58 pounds. 8/26/22 I go to Riversbend to get the correct medication. They refuse to give it to me because their records indicate he is 45 pounds. I was told I must go by their scale and if I want different medication I would have to bring him in. So my visit on 8/9/22 not only did I have to wait 2 hours & 45 minutes, get treated with pure disrespect, they also can not chart my dogs weight appropriately. I never write reviews and I know this is long winded but I am truly disappointed in the professionalism at Riversbend. If you chose to go to this Vet Office, I truly hope your experiences are better than mine. read more

This was my first visit and I want to say Thankyou for selling me the dog food I needed as my vet was out. Now on to the reason for such a low rating. 1. I called the office to see if they had the dog food I needed and they said yes. I said I would be there shortly. Upon arrival I called to see if I should walk in and was told yes. As I walked in a customer walked out, there also was a customer waiting area neither had masks on. Walking towards the desk neither receptionist had masks, no face coverings or sneeze guards and pens(clean? Or not) were laying on the counters. Then the vet came out again no mask on. I told them I had called and was there to pick up the dog food. 2. Now the fun begins. I was told they only sell to clients. I said I did call and they said nothing about being a client 3. I also needed a script for this plus a wellness exam. I said here are all the tests run complete blood panel, fecal, heartworm and exam. Also the required food written at the bottom of the paperwork. I was told no the vet here needed to do the exam. Really? These test were run by another vet 3 miles away less than 24 hours ago. 4. They then said we will need your name etc for our records. No problem and this was done. They went on to say they would allow me to purchase the food but on a future visit they would need a complete exam by them. So in other words they did not want my business if I did not repeat all the tests as I was not a client. I stated here is the paperwork, here are the tests and I am now in your system does that not make me a client. I was told no, the exam would have to be done all over again by them. Okay I have never heard of vets from the same area not working together. I stated this. I was told everyone does that. I said no they work with each other. 5. I was expected to spend hundreds of more so if I needed dog food from them. Yep just to buy dog food. Sounds like you just want more money. I had paperwork and proved it. They should have said we would be glad to help you and if you ever need us we will be here for you. 6. The office did not care about taking care of the people who came in by having no masks, sneeze guards, or sanitizing common areas. Why would they care about my dogs? Again thanks for selling me the dog food, but I will not come back. Your communication skills are terrible, it looks like you wanted me to spend hundreds more in unnecessary tests. Plus you were placing my health in jeopardy, plus your other clients as well. read more

I'm not from the area and I needed a rabies shot for my dog so I simply called and asked them when they best to get her in and they have they replied saying that she couldn't get her in which I knew would be an option because of Covid. But then they decided to be rude and snarky and hang up on me midsentence. Not too happy about that. read more

The staff here were very caring, calm, and knowledgeable when taking care of our cat after she was diagnosed with Leukemia. It was a very difficult time for us but they were respectful and understanding, they even mailed us a beautiful hand-made card after she passed. Going to an office with such empathetic people definitely made the whole process more bearable. We truly can't thank them enough for their kindness. read more

Nothing but a big hassle and rude staff when I called in about our dog to get records transferred there. When I called on hold for an unnecessary amount of time and when they finely got to me they asked if I could wait for a minute more and I said I guess and they hung up on me. I called straight back and on hold AGAIN...... than nothin but excuses to what happened. Also they are awfully expensive for there services and it's not worth it especially they do not live up to no 4 star standard at all. Way better off services else where!! read more

This animal hospital uses extortion like tactics in order to sell prescription cat food. After purchasing Royal Canine UTI food for my cat for 6 months, I showed up today to purchase more. I was informed that they would not sell to me anymore without first seeing my cat. This was without an email, phone call, or any kind of communication. This is after my family has spent thousands of dollars for pet care with them over the years. The management and treatment of people like this is unacceptable, and will never return. Excellent staff! I've been going to them for many years for my dogs and cats and have always appreciated their love for animals. They are great with advice and preventative care suggestions (advice you don't get from an online 800 number pet med place!). I recently had to put my 13 year old dog down. They were so compassionate and understanding. It's a little bit of a drive for me, but well worth it. read more
