First it offers one of the best truck and RV enclosed self washes I have ever seen in my almost 10 years of full time RVing. We would drive there just to use this awesome truck/RV wash. The laundromat is enormous and really clean due to the on-site manager George who is the epitome of fine camp host and person. The sites are level and clean and its peacefully quiet. Its a 20 minute drive into the town of Mconnellsville/Malta, for thorough grocery shopping however, there is a convenience store in town. Walmart and the like is about an hours drive in Zanesville. That said, this is a beautiful historic property. The way the upper floor was divided into rooms was very well done. When we first went up to our room, we were worried because all the rooms were centered around a common room (we didn't want to hear people all night). What a pleasant surprise to find out the walls were thick enough (and the dam loud enough) that the only way you could hear any of the other rooms was to be standing right by their door! We were in the Morgan Raider suite. The couple that checked us in were very helpful: we'd arrived late and everything in town was closed for dinner, but they called around to McConnelsville and found us an open restaurant. They were cheery and friendly. Now, that said, I was darn near infuriated to find out that-after having called to double check that breakfast was offered-breakfast was not out at 7 (ok, whatever), but when we went back out at 9, there was nothing left! Mentioned it to the clerk on the way out and got a "Ok...." Very disappointing. Also the wireless signal is very weak.

I am Celiac and have to be careful about certain items and also the chance of cross-contamination. So prior to driving two and a half hours to dine at Stockport Mill Inn, we called to ask about the menu. We were assured that there were many options that would be gluten free. Reservations were made for noon which is when they open. We arrived a few minutes before noon and enjoyed observing the scenery and reading the historical markers on the property. At noon, the door was still locked. Finally one of the people in our party ventured around to the back and went in the back door (clearly marked "exit") and came to the front door and directed us to the back door for entry. Shortly after we were let in the back door, somebody (I think the owner) ambled over to the front door with a key and let the rest of the waiting guests inside. When we got to the restaurant area, a woman started talking (almost yelling) that the one table in the back and three tables on the side were reserved and we could sit anywhere but those tables. I said we had a reservation and told her the name and she just repeated what she had shouted out before. I asked if one of the reserved tables were ours and she shouted out the command again. So we went into the dining area and found an open table and seated ourselves. She eventually came and asked if we had been there before and we said we had not. She took our drink orders and told us it was buffet style and to go up to get our food. (Only it was not really buffet style; it was really cafeteria style as the servers dished up the plates for us which was fine.) We gave her our drink orders and I said that I am Celiac and wanted to make sure there were some gluten free options. She said, "Are you the ones that called?" To which we replied that we were and she said, "Okay she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts." And that was it. She walked away. I was somewhat perplexed about the potato exclusion because I could see that they were serving mashed potatoes but perhaps they were instant and some of those do contain wheat. I took a glance at the options of main entrees and mentioned to my husband that I was not sure I could eat any of the options. Once we got to the serving line, that same woman was there dishing out salads. I requested no croutons and she just looked at me. Again I said, no croutons please. So she put a little salad on my plate. I asked for onions and she just froze. So I said, "Onions please" and so she put two tiny pieces of onion on my plate. I asked for a small dish of fruit as well. As I approached the main entree section, I saw that there was some chicken. Since chicken was not mentioned as an excluded food, I asked the second server if the chicken was breaded. She said, "I don't know." Then she asked the other server if the chicken was breaded and she practically shouted, "I said that she said, no bread, no potatoes, no pasta and no desserts!" At this point I was afraid to ask about any of the other options. I have been Celiac for so many years and I know what questions to ask, but since the server was so hateful I just decided to have a salad and nothing else. When we were all seated at our table, I began to eat my salad, trying to eat as slowly as I could so that it would last throughout everyone else's meal. One of the people at our table had finished his food and gone back for seconds. The hateful server came by and asked if she could clear those plates. I asked for a second glass of tea. She did bring a second glass of tea and silently placed it on the table as she passed by to another table. I also drank all that tea and my empty glass remained on the table. The server came around a few minutes later with drinks for everyone at the table except me, did not take notice of the two empty glasses in front of me or offer to bring me another refill. Now, I have dined at countless establishments and I have had excellent service as well as poor service over the years and across the globe. So a rude server is not a new experience for me. The majority of our experiences are good, but I have also had my fair share of mediocre and poor service. I rarely complain. I try to understand that sometimes people just are not on their game; maybe there is something else going on that I am not aware of. I also understand that many people do not understand that Celiac is a disease, not just a fad diet. Asking for particular items is not my way of making their life miserable. It is just a fact of life that I cannot eat certain foods that contain gluten. So I try to factor that into how I rate my service. I could have just assumed she was having a bad day; I could have assumed that she did not understand the severity of my condition. But it went from

A lady answered and was very nice and told us she had room and we could come over. It's a small, independent owned site but it wasn't much more than a place to plug in for us. It was not scenic. The lot was fairly flat. There are about 20 lots total and some campers seem to have been parked for quite a while. We paid $30 for less than 12 hours but they did offer full hookups despite us just using electric. Nonetheless, it gets the job done for somewhere to park and plug in. Not much else but very hospitable service.

However, this provided an absolutely amazing experience for a recent bachelorette party. One of my dearest friends had her bachelorette here as she grew up in the area, and her sister (a total rockstar) had the foresight to book all of the rooms at the Hackett for our party. We stayed 2 girls to a room, and there were 5 rooms in all. There is a great common space where we did the bachelorette games...and such. The space was stocked with snacks, coffee, water, juice, milk, etc, and we brought a lot of our own stuff as well. It was just a lovely place, and it served our purposes perfectly. I don't know how well it would work with other people...as the common area creates an intimate setting, but it would be the perfect setting for a family reunion, a girls weekend, etc.

I really enjoyed our stay at Burr Oak during 4th of July. You can tell they've been working hard to…read moreupgrade and renovate things. I believe the indoor pool is newly re done. I stayed in the lodge hotel rooms with our friend and 2 year old. I booked the king suite with a pull out couch and balcony. It was perfect, had a view of the lake and was right near the bar restaurant. It was very convenient having 2 bathrooms. The main bedrooms bathroom was newly re done, the other rooms seemed older but worked fine. There's dish cable tv and wifi. I was told there were charcoal grills for use and when I arrived they didn't seem to know anything about it which was odd. However we found grills for use next to the playground near the lodge. The story book trail is great for a nice hike with little ones. My husband enjoyed the disc golf course. I wish on the website they clarified that if you want to swim in the lake you have to drive to the swimming beach, but it wasn't too far. There's boating and hunting and fishing as well. Food at the restaurant is over priced but you pay for convenience since there's nothing close by to eat. There's fire pits with a nice view of the lake, and fire wood to purchase if you didn't bring your own. The rooms have a microwave and mini fridge. Overall we have a very nice time and I'd definitely come back.

If you must, the way to go is order a pizza to go and pick it up when it is ready. The pros: beautiful view over the water, great at sun down. The cons: the food took way too long to come out. They forgot to bring the soup and salad we order before the meal, and by the time they went to get my soup, they had run out of that kind! See attached photos and video of the fish. Sad to say both my wife and I ordered that same meal. When it finally did come out the fish was so deeply fried that it was rock hard and there was not much remanence of any kind of fish meat left to be scavenged. Not even a forest dwelling mongrel would have gone for this disastrous preparation. I asked the waitress if it was supposed to be like this and she said "yes". (looking back that is a pretty funny answer) I told her that we were not going to be able to eat the meal. I mean even if we wanted to, it really wasn't food at this point. Is there anything she could do for us? After going to the back and having a discussion with her manger, she came back and said she could provide 30% off of each fish meal..... that is so close to doing nothing. And it wasn't just us. After we "ate" another couple stopped us and told us about the terrible experience they had with the meal. Burr Oak Lodge Restaurant, I suggest you just serve pizza.
