We had to put our 14 year old dog, Bruiser, down. Needless to say we were attached to him. He was struggling to breathe, had difficulty standing to go to the bathroom, to find his water, etc. We had water in every corner of the house for him since he had difficulty walking. We brought him water when he was lying down. He was miserable. We called Riverside Animal Hospital told them his condition and they saw us that morning. We were not regular customers. We had just moved to Macon. Our daughter had taken her dogs there. So we were sure they were good doctors and chose them. They were compassionate, kind, gentle with Bruiser and discussed everything before we proceeded. They examined Bruiser and came to the same conclusion we had. When they handled him they were very gentle with him. After he passed they prepared him for burial. We wanted to take him and bury him next to his sister. Who we had lost a year before. She had died lying in the bed with us. Bruiser missed her. As did we. If you are in search of compassionate, knowledgeable, professional veterinarians choose Riverside Animal Hospital. Don't waste your time! They charged me $52 for a "New patient Exam" and there was NO exam. They didn't check her ears, joints, etc. Staff was also rude and impersonal. Needless to say I will not be going back. read more

Absolutely terrible. I boarded my dog here for three days and when I picked her up she had sores and scrapes all over her legs. I asked if she got them when playing outside and they said"No we just keep them in their cage the whole time". I strongly urge anybody not to do any business here. read more

Within 24 hours after returning home from a week of boarding at Riverside, my Basset needed emergency care (at another vet facility!) for diarrhea, dehydration, UTI, and congestive heart failure. My pet had been a client at Riverside, so I assumed any indication of ill health, while being boarded, would trigger medical attention or, at the very least, a phone call to me. Neither was the case. Please, do not allow these people to care for your pet in your absence! read more

Great Vets, great staff. They've been taking care of my dogs & cats for years now. The prices are very reasonable and they really care about your pets. When I had to put one of my dogs down last year, the whole staff signed a condolence card. I received no bill. It really meant a lot to us. read more

I've been using this vet about 8 years. I love Angie Shurling She is compassionate with people and animals, but she is also professional and knowledgeable. A true animal lover, she gives advice based on what is best for the pet. She does not push treatments, just makes suggestions, and tells you the pros and cons. If you are too upset to decide she will give you an honest answer to "If this were your cat, what would you do?" I'm sorry Angie S had a bad grooming experience, but when my pet is SICK I'm heading straight to RAH. read more

Horrible experience. The groomer shaved our dog from head to toe, rather than cutting his fur like we asked. Even though we brush him and work out his mattes, admittedly, he still have a few that our brushes at home would not get out completely. The groomer told us she would cut those places short and blend the fur together to make him look good. Our dog is a goldendoodle and she shaved him completely. He looks nothing like himself and the poor thing bit at his irritated skin constantly. On top of that, ever since we brought him home, he's been scared of women he's never met before. He goes to the groomers every other month and has been groomed by women numerous times, and never has been scared of new people. This is clearly a sign that not was he poorly groomed, but he was also poorly treated. I called to complain and was treated with disrespect by the groomer. We will never use their services again and do not recommend them to anyone. We had a great experience at Northside Wesleyan and will be sure to return there, even though they are a little further from our home. read more

i brought my pet in for its ($) vaccinations, 3 weeks later came back to get the ($) rabies vacc, shortly after dog came down with life threatening illness parvo virus,i brought the dog back,($) doctor seemed to immediately know it was parvo,and criticized me saying they had warned me not to take it to the dog park. well the dog stays at home, i only take it to the vet, which is where sick animals congregate,meaning it picked up parvo at the vet hospital, so my dog was hospitalized, ($) 4 days later they said the dog is fine,pick it up ($), the dog looked 60 percent recovered, i figured it needs a little more time to reach 100 percent,and took it home. the dog laid around crying and in obvious pain, i brought the dog back to have it examined ($), they said obviously the dog was injured at home,(my fault of course), the dog hadnt left my presence while at home, it stays with me and even sleeps on my bed. they said it must have a blood infection,prescribed more meds and rang up my credit card some more ($). they said my dog would be fully recovered in 2 days and to call them if it wasnt, i researched extensively on the internet and discovered a dog can have a delayed negative reaction to a vaccination which can even result in death., i examined my pet and discovered its injury between its shoulders at the nap of its neck where they have been giving it injections, it has a swollen, extremely painful lump, i know the doctors at riverside knew this because they physically (hands on) examined the dog to determine where the injury was. and they were deceptive when they diagnosed it with an infection, and omitted the fact that they injured the dog with an injection, (and exposed it to parvo), i spoke to a completely different vet and this is what they said, the dog is having a negative delayed reaction to its injections administered at riverside, the secondary infection is caused by bacteria,i.e. dirty syringe or contaminated vaccine. also that the technician may have administered the injection incorrectly,injuring my dog with the needle. i called riverside to discuss this, the doctors tone of voice changed to bad attitude, she hung up on me and didnt call back. obviously they dont care about my animal. the other vet said the dog could take 5 weeks to heal, or it could remain this way permanent, or it could die. the dog is basically paralized and in extreme pain. the medicines they prescribed are doing no help, and the new vet said one of the (antibiotics) prescribed by riverside, is actually medication for snakebites,and has been discontinued by most vets because it is known for causing negative reactions in dogs,let alone the fact my dog doesnt have a snakebite, and that this med, might actually be making the dogs condition worse. my dog was in perfect health when i first brought it to riverside, but the more i brought it here, the more its health deteriorated, now my family pet lays crippled on the floor, crying in pain, and sometimes cant even make it outside to go potty. it wasnt very kind of the vet to hang up on us, we spent plenty only to ruin my pets health. if you love your animals, you might want to take them somewhere else. read more
