I've been a fan since I was SIX years old...I am now 71 and still look forward to our annual trip to Iron River. My children and grandchildren have become fans now too. The pizza is great - always hot, crispy and delicious. The only slipup we've experienced was during the pandemic... quality wasn't as high. The Riverside Pizza in Green Bay is very good but doesn't hit the same level as the one in Iron River... I'm thinking the memories we have add to the enjoyment. We got recommended this place by locals. It was advertised as the best pizza in the UP to us, so maybe we had high expectations. BUT regardless we did not like our experience or the pizza. The pizza tasted like frozen pizza. Our waitress forgot to bring us several things (plates, Parmesan cheese, crush red peppers, and straws). We were hungry, so we powered through without them. Decided to try Riverside tonight after driving by it for so many months. It's a comfy little place that has a lot of room inside. The staff was super friendly and kind. They helped us right away and make sure we were well taken care of. At first, we were a little surprised by the menu because it only had pizza options, wings and footlong dogs. We were kind of expecting like cheesy bread sticks or some type of garlic bread that goes with pizza or maybe even a salad bar? But the options for pizza and the pizza itself did not disappoint. The pizza is loaded with toppings and there are a lot of toppings to choose from as well! And it's cut into perfect bite size pieces! It looked funny at first but then we loved how it was cut. Disappointed. Waitress acted like it was against her standards to be helpful. It was our first visit so we had questions. The pizza is offered in numerical order. We liked # 6 but simply wanted pepperoni instead of sausage. Not possible, we needed to order a special pizza. We asked why? She answered that is our rule. We both had a glass of white wine. This Saturday night's large pizza is the second one I've ordered and eaten there in the last six months of 2023. Neither one would come close to what I consider the best or really good pizza. Growing up, this was the pizza place, and now as a adult this is still what I compare all pizza's to. This is just the perfect pizza. I have great memories of going there with my grandparents who are no longer here, and it was their favorite as well. My grandfather and Uncle's compared it to the pies they got to try during WW2. I knew as a child this place was special. Sadly I don't get back to the area much, but when I do this is always top of the the list of places to go. The pizza is just perfect, not think, not super thin, it's just perfect. Almost like a club cracker but better. The sauce is unreal, I have tried to re-create it numerous times to no avail. The sausage also is the best sausage that can be found on any pizza, ever. There's just something about it. Just came back from a ski vacation at Ski Brule and had 2 other families with us. Tons of snow and skiing was great! Brought 6 adults and 5 kids to my favorite pizza joint and 4 pies disappeared like magic. Kids had fun playing some of the video games while the adults enjoyed some beer. We ended up ordering a pizza to go to have something to snack on back at the cabin. Service can be a bit slow at times, and it does get busy especially on the weekends. Everybody's got their own favorite "this is the best pizza on the planet" pick. This one is mine. What's different about my pick compared to most others is that mine isn't in New York City, or Chicago, or Milan. No, it's in Iron River, Michigan, which is an ever-shrinking former iron ore mining town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan whose heyday was probably in the World War II era. But the last of the mines closed down a generation ago, and Iron River isn't exactly "on the way" to any more prominent destinations. Ergo, it's unlikely that most people would ever find themselves in striking distance of this fine pizza. About this Riverside Pizza: 1) It's a cracker crust deal. Very very thin and crispy, which offers great texture in a way that doesn't get in the way of the flavor of the toppings and sauce. 2) The sauce is excellent! It's really zesty and offers up a strong tomato flavor. 3) The pizza is cut into tiny little squares. They're about an inch and a half to two inches. This is something of a double edged sword in terms of your eating strategy. You don't have to commit to a whole big slice the way you do with a regular pie slice. However, for the very same reason, you can usually stuff at least three or four more pieces down your pie-hole even after your belly declares that you are stuffed. 4) Toppings here are simple. There's sausage and mushrooms and and onions and pepperoncini style pickled peppers. Most people eat some combination of those three items. You can also get a pepperoni if you must (although the sausage is the thing--and those peppers--trust me). I'm a #8 man myself. I visit Iron River about once a year and naturally make sure I stop in once or twice. The other 364 days a year I dream about this pizza. read more

When you walk into Riverside, you know you're walking into a local hangout. The decor is mainly Green Bay Packers memorabilia (which makes a Wisconsinite feel at home too). The menu is super simple- nothing fru-fru. If you want anything other than pizza or a fish fry, go elsewhere. That being said, the pizza is phenomenal. My family ordered a sausage, onion, mushroom and pepperoncini, and a plain cheese pizza. Both were piping hot and cut into tiny little squares that allow you to shove more pizza down your gullet than you thought possible. After I had talked about being in that area quite a bit a coworker hyped this place up sooo much. So naturally the next time I was passing through I had to try it. I ordered an individual pizza. Maybe it's bc I had such high hopes that it was extra disappointing but this was not good pizza. Not anywhere close to good pizza. I believe it is bc the sauce is awful.. frankly it was gross. And so was the establishment. I feel like the whole place needed to be dipped in boiling water. I'm not sure if it is bc it's their only option that the locals think it's good or even acceptable. Riverside Pizza is more than just delicious pizza, it's one of my greatest summer traditions. My father grew up in Iron River, right up the road from Riverside, and has been eating this pizza since he was a kid. We now live in Houston but Iron River is always where my family gathers together in the summer. Some of my best memories of our trip to Iron River was going to Riverside Pizza and picking songs on the jukebox and playing the Timber game while waiting for our pizza to be ready. I've been eating Riverside pizza since I was able to chew solid food and it has always been my favorite. We typically stay in Iron River for about a week every summer and it is not uncommon for us to get at least one pizza from Riverside every single night of our trip. In fact, I have nightmares a few times every year that my family goes to Iron River and on the last day I realize I haven't had Riverside pizza even once. Yes, the pizza is that good! It is often times hard getting a large enough table down at Riverside to accommodate all of my family but never fear, the pizza tastes just as good sitting outside on a U.P. summer evening as it does eating it down at Riverside. I can never understand the not so good reviews on this place. True, it is often tricky to get a table, especially for a large group of people. That's because people don't just come to Riverside for the pizza. This place has always been a place where families and friends get together to catch up. In fact, my sister and I have made it a new tradition where we head down to Riverside before the rest of the family to see how long it takes us to get a large enough table together for everyone before calling them to come up and meet us. I'm not sure if it's the cheese, the sausage, or the sauce but something about the combination of the three truly makes this pizza stand out. I also love how the toppings are put under the cheese rather than on top. I tell everybody back home in Houston about how there isn't a single pizza place that holds a candle to Riverside. As a local from Iron County who like so many yoopers has moved away, I always make a point to stop back there when visiting home. The thin crispy crust pizza is cut into bite size pieces. The crust is almost always perfect; my favorite pieces are the edges! In later years the cooks sometimes screw it up, but its rare. The sauce is a sweet tomato paste base. Came here when we were vacationing in a cabin on the UP. We came on a Monday night and place was mobbed with locals, which is how you know it's good. The pizza is incredible. Servers were good too. This is the local pizza place in the home of Iron River, MIchigan. Although in Michigan, the walls are filled with Green Bay Packer memorabilia, making it a cozy place for any Wisconsinite. There is a bar and a medium sized dining area which makes it family friendly. The price here is fair, you're looking at about $10 for a 9" pizza, $13 for a 12" pizza and $17 for a 14" pizza. I had a local beer, the Keweenaw Widow Maker Black Ale, from the Keweenaw Brewery, and a medium (12") sausage, cheese, and pepperoni pizza. I would rate the pizza as a 8.2 out of 10 - not super greasy, topped with lots of cheese, and filled with a good amount of meat. It took about 35 minutes for me to get my pizza but if you don't want to wait, you can call ahead to order. If you enjoy pizza, you will enjoy Riverside Pizzaria. read more
