This was our 2nd visit to Riverside Barbeque. The restaurant filled up quickly not long after we arrived. You can order from your table using QR code. Takes a bit longer than talking to a server, but I guess this keeps menu costs down. I like the ambiance of this place. Leaving the brick walls exposed adds to the allure. Food is good. Not for us. Went the first time on a Thursday. No chicken. Ok. No problem. Had a beer n left. Come back on a Sunday and no chicken again except wings which I don't like and out of a number of other things. Had a beer n stayed maybe 45 minutes. Literally got some Mac n cheese to go since that's all they had unless u wanted beef or pork. Spacious airy atmosphere. So I thought until I went home n smelled myself. My hair, clothes, jacket reeked of smoke. And I didn't even get any bbq lol! Stunk after 45 minutes. Mac n cheese are penne pasta noodles which I personally don't care for. Plus I had zero protein The man got the smoked wings. Tried to warn him. He fell for the okey doke the bartender was selling. She tells me to order thru her and not the app. No problem. $45 n all I got was a beer n Mac. Man took about 3 bites of the smoked wings, declared them uncooked n threw the other 11 out. 4/4 = 5? Yep. We've been here 4 times, and we've been happy 4 times. That adds up to 5 stars. In general, I hate online ordering. So, at RB, there is still that option (using QR codes to order and pay). But now, if you'd rather, you can order your food and pay at the hostess station. In both cases, the food is brought to your table. Speaking of food, RB is pretty damned good. The brisket, the mac and cheese, the greens? Hell yeah. I would say that the greens could use a little pork flavor. But in general, the Mrs and I were very happy. Liked the sauces, too. The atmosphere is clean, open, industrial, and includes 10 PINBALL machines! And a mirror ball? Ok. The benches are padded for comfort. The prices? We came here because we heard the area was getting a lot of buzz. We popped in mostly because of the pinball, but a new bar and BBQ spot in Toledo? We had to try it. We had a wonderful time here. It was our first time coming here and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The vibe is very relaxed and warm. It felt like having barbecue in your neighbors backyard As for the food the deep fried deviled eggs were to die for. We gobbled them down so quickly. They were crispy on the outside but soft and flavorful on the inside. It's a very refreshing take on a classic. The barbecue was outstanding. The meat was perfectly seasoned. My only draw back was I felt they added too much sauce which took away from the meat but that's my personal opinion. I know there's people that love a saucy barbecue The chicken sandwich was juicy and well seasoned. Our first visit collided with a "Party in the Park" event--loud music, a boomer stampede, and a menu wiped out before sunset. Total chaos. But on the return trip? The food absolutely delivered: tough brisket but great crust, chewy-yet-delicious burnt ends, glorious deep-fried deviled eggs, and sauces that practically held your hand (vinegar based white BBQ my personal favorite.) Just skip the Mac & Cheese - it's nothing to write home about. Service was vapor, lighting is mysteriously dim, and no one explains anything--but the BBQ itself ranks among Toledo's best. It has a QR code menu. As a computer savvy elder I still find this difficult. Also everything is served in one-use plastic and I try to avoid that. The place is huge and was nicely cool in temperature. They had a jazz band that was great but too loud (again, I'm an elder). I ordered my first smash burger. It was good. The deep fried cauliflower was phenomenal. The collard greens were luke warm but deliciously cooked with pork broth. My husband doesn't eat red meat so there wasn't much for him. He had the chicken quarter, the mac and cheese, and a side salad that was small but had tomatoes and cucumbers in it. I'm a mac and cheese snob. It was made with shells pasta which is not my cup of tea. After they delivered it to the table I tasted it a few minutes later and it was cold. The banana pudding was spectacular. I'm going back just for that. The manager asked us how was our food and I told her about the greens and mac. She apologized and adjusted our bill for those items. It was a fun date night experience. I would like to go for the blues singers Bobby and Dorothy next week. Oh yeah. I ordered the potato chips bc I thought they were house made. They are bagged. We took them home for later. read more

First off I did not want to like this place, great another BBQ place just what we all need. Took me awhile to try it and bummed I waited so long. this is the ultimate, BEST, most mouth watering, incredible, satisfying food, I could only imagine eating. First I came in, not busy, some people seated and eating. There is a big sign "Order here", stood there for about 3 minutes, no one. There's a bartender at the bar area that no one is seated at but no one taking orders. A gentleman came in after me asked her if anyone was taking orders? She said they'd be right with us. A few minutes later she came and assume me and the gentleman were together- we weren't- then i started my order and she typed it in and said "to go?" - no for there. We had to start over. I placed my order with cake- it was my daughter's bday and we were meeting for lunch. My daughter came in, we found a place to sit then went and filled our own drinks. Yah- you pay and give a tip before you know that you literally serve yourself! They have generic soda and 2 were out of order. They had one zero option and no diet options. Finally our food is brought out. We ordered burnt ends and Mac n cheese. I also ordered 2 pieces of cake for my daughter's bday. We are eating and no cake. I asked the young man who brought the food about the cake and he said there's no cake on your ticket. I literally said it 3x to the person taking the order - yet no cake. So I gave a tip for no service and missed items. Mind you this is a middle rate restaurant meaning not the most expensive but not cheap either. IMO over rated, overpriced and not worth $50 lunch missing the main reason for the visit. read more

I gotta say, the food here is tasty, but it's a little difficult to justify the price. I know part of what we're paying for is atmosphere, but $5 for pickle spears that are complimentary with any deli sandwich on earth, just because they soaked in Kool-Aid as a novelty is a bit much. And the collards weren't just a little bit salty, either - they may as well have been served in seawater. The biggest regret of the night was usually one of my favorite dishes. Now, that's my complaining out of the way. Because everything else was fantastic. The pulled pork was some of the best I've ever had, and paired wonderfully with the coleslaw and the potatoes, which had enough vinegar to make the whole plate pop - in a good way. The cowboy beans were a bit sweet, which everyone seems to think is the only way to do them, but they tasted awesome and balanced out the rich mac and cheese on the smoked sweet potato nicely. The bologna was worth a try and the smash burger was great, too, but you're at a barbecue place - skip it and get the pork or the brisket. I know I will, next time. Love the brisket and the banana pudding, but everything else was mid at best. It's all "self serve" using QR menus with food delivered to the table by the kitchen staff, zero servers. Mehhhh. If i drop 40 bucks on my lunch I want to be served. The place has a very cool vibe- but they really need to have some BBQ platters instead of the all a la carte menu. The cowboy beans were legit disgusting. They did take them off my bill. Completely hard and undercooked and they tasted like they used taco seasoning from a packet to make them. I did like their BBQ sauce and signature drinks. I'm hoping they work on the menu a bit to make it a little easier to mix match and try new things. And those beans have GOT to go! The bartender was great. She was helpful in figuring out the menu and ordering system. It was a sunday and there were some older church crowd in there looking super confused and equally underwhelmed. I really want this new riverfront area to work. In order for it to take off they will need some food worth driving for. read more

One of the best bbq restaurants I have been too, more specifically the prime beef brisket. Super fatty, tender, and flavorful. Chicken wings and thigh quarters were great. Sides as well, potato's and beans. Owner was great coming around and checking tables. My only gripe is I like having service but the food was amazing. The hostess gave us our menus and explained the ordering system . But what she didn't tell us was the chalk board was the only list of food that they had to order. If the chalk board would've been explained we would've never ordered cocktails . Educated your staffing on explaining the whole story to patrons before our time and $$ are wasted. read more

Our visit to Riverside BBQ was extremely disappointing. Four of us went for a birthday celebration and were met with a great smell but no staff to greet us. The Toast Tab ordering system took 30 minutes to load and wouldn't process orders or our payments. When we finally found help, we were told, "Sometimes it just does that." After mentioning the app could lead to bad reviews, the owner, Chef Paul Matthews, came out of the kitchen, grabbed our utensils, and said, "GET OUT! We are not serving you," claiming we had threatened his staff's livelihood, which we absolutely had not. After 45 minutes, we never did receive food or drinks. At the whim of the owner we left for another restaurant. Others there said they'd had the same experience. The food may smell amazing, but the service and management were unacceptable. read more

Found this during a trip to Toledo and we were glad we did! Good food, relaxed atmosphere, affordable. It's somewhat self-serve but we didn't mind with prices like this. And the staff who brought out the food and cleaned the tables were very friendly. I also liked the option of ordering at the register instead of on my phone. Legit BBQ done right, which is a nice surprise to find anywhere outside of Texas. We tried the spare ribs, chicken wings, chopped brisket sandwich, cole slaw, and beans. The ribs were spot on tender and tasty. Chopped brisket was generous and the bun kind of stole the show. Wings and beans could have used a little more seasoning. The venue is ambitious - great tables and plenty of space. They even have a nice collection of pinball machines. I personally like mobile ordering (they use Toast) but I would love to see more of a Texas style ordering counter where you buy by weight or rib. The only complaint I have is the complete lack of staff interaction. We were the only ones there for at least 30 minutes and nobody ever checked on us or even said good bye as we left. I would *strongly* suggest some basic hospitality training. But if you just want good BBQ in the 419, this is the *only* choice. read more

Tonight was my first experience. The fried deviled eggs (with pork) and the fried cauliflower were delicious. I took a very large piece of chocolate sheet cake home which was really good. The service left a bit to be desired. A couple of kids just stand at the kitchen window waiting to deliver the food to the tables. They had no knowledge of the sauces. Nothing some better training couldn't fix. read more

I was really excited to hear that this establishment was going to open up last year. I am an avid Barbeque lover and this place did not disappoint! The whole ambiance and vibe of the area is very rustic and more old school which I love. The meat was delicious too, I've tried almost everything on the menu. The brisket is tender, juicy, and flavorful. The wings there are crispy on the outside and has a very nice succulent Smokey flavor on the inside. MY favorite thing on the menu would have to be the beef-fat potatoes. Really crispy and delicious! It is a QR scan-coded restaurant which makes ordering food easy and without wait! Self served drinks and an amazing bar! 10/10 would recommend to everybody I know! read more

Not great. Kids running around and screaming, staff was all out of sorts, food was meh. They were out of almost everything we came to try, but we still ordered many things. It was just not worth a return. I'm hoping they will fix the kinks with the ordering system, or at least have someone explain it to each table.
