$10 to travel to Fullerton. That's equivalent to about 3.58 gallons of gas sitting for an hour plus on the 91 fwy. to go 42 miles
    Tamara T.

These billboards on the freeway advertising to take Metrolink as opposed to sitting on the freeway are a joke! My disdain for this station in particular is due more towards the kiosks than the actual station itself. I've been anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes early before my train is set to arrive and I ALWAYS have an issue with purchasing a ticket from the kiosks. Mostly because the line to purchase a ticket is always long and the patrons waiting in line have testified to other riders that the machine is sensitive or finicky and you have to insert your card a certain way, push the button fast or slow, light an incense candle and praise the kiosk in front of you, do a rain dance...ok the last two not so much, but you get the picture. So the question is, "Do I wait in line and miss the train or do I hop on the train anyway and hope I don't get caught?" Here's my complicated answer: DON'T MISS THE TRAIN : 1) FAULTY TICKET KIOSKS - These ticket kiosks are the same ones that they've used since Metrolink first came online 24 years ago and they've not joined the rest of technology and developed an ap for Google or Apple phones. I've recently complained to them about this and they recognized that their kiosks are old and the parts are obsolete and they're currently going through a beta-test for the ap to come out in the future. IF YOU DON'T GET A TICKET AND CATCH THE TRAIN CALL OR SEND THEM A COMPLAINT IMMEDIATELY. In the past I've called from the Metrolink box phone when the ticket machines were down and weren't accepting cash or not accepting cards and they've always told me to pay when I get off at the stop I'm going to. 2) WHO'S CHECKING ANYWAY? -They only occasionally have an L.A.P.D police officer on board checking to see that the patron has purchased a ticket. In my 14 years of riding the train from different stations, I think they've checked mostly departing from or to L.A. Union station during peak hours in the afternoon. I've never really been asked to show my ticket at 6:40 a.m. from Riverside. I would say in 14 years I've been asked to show my ticket maybe 10 - 15 times and that includes maybe 2 or three of those times on a Saturday. 3) CAN I GET A REFUND IF I MISS MY TRAIN? HA, HA,HA, NO! You don't if it's a one way or round trip ticket. There's a long and lengthy process for getting a refund on a case by case basis which includes a research paper explanation on why you think you deserve it and it must include your ticket and receipt and MAILED not e-mailed to a P.O. Box. Your other option is to hand deliver it to their office in Union Station. So, might as well not be late to work because if you pay for a ticket and you miss your train, you're not getting those $10 back that could've gone towards gas in your tank. 4)WHEN'S THE NEXT TRAIN TO MY DESTINATION? These trains don't run hourly so if you don't have a back-up plan or the next train isn't for hours you're S.O.L. Also, the conductors tend to push things and close doors 1 -2 minutes before the scheduled departure, so if you're on the bridge and think you have a minute to get to the other side and get on board, you're wrong. This morning, I caught a 7 a.m. train to Orange that arrived around 6:56 a.m. I missed the 6:40 a.m. train which had a long line to pay for tickets and when I got on this train the conductor had the nerve to say that this train requires you purchase a ticket and he saw there were no lines for the kiosks when he pulled in. Then the doors closed at 6:58 a.m. and opened up back once, then departed at 6:59 a.m. on the dot. Same situation occurred in Orange when I was catching a connecting train, the conductor closed the doors a minute early and we were on our way. PAY FOR YOUR FEES OR PAY YOUR FINES: A friend of mine recently hopped on the train without paying from Riverside Downtown at 10:30 a.m. and was asked by a cop to show his ticket. He informed the cop that he would've missed the train if he'd purchased a ticket (maybe not the strongest argument, but most likely true) and was given a fare evasion ticket. THE FINE IS $1100 NO JOKE! He now has to go to court and either hope the cop or sheriff doesn't show up or the judge is feeling nice that day. Here's a link to Reddit on Metrolink Fare Evasion: https://www.reddit.com/r/LosAngeles/comments/3lq1zs/la_metrolink_fare_evasion_fine/ This station in particular is the worse and gets no attention because it's not in L.A. but has the most passengers outside of L.A. in my opinion. If they had a system where you could pay a conductor on-board I wouldn't balk at the whole campaign to take the train, but the fact that they charge me what's equivalent to half a tank of gas to get to work, don't provide adequate service and also have rude conductors is a joke. Sorry, you're better off sitting in misery on the 91 fwy. than riding the train.

Remember to be on time and ready for your time to parking and getting to the train cuz this train stops for no one I've seen people pulling in , walking to the train missing the train and all you can do is wave bye bye birdie

Early morning for first Metrolink. Parked my car underneath a tree in the secure looking parking lot.

I drove here to park my car and take a train to Disneyland because I didn't feel like driving. The parking is very secure and for it being my first time using public transportation I found it very easy and relaxing. Not to mention I didn't have to worry about traffic. Just sat there and read the whole way. People were nice to point me in the right direction. Will definitely use again.

    Metrolink Information

Metrolink is #1 as in "Eek! Methinks not." They win this award due to their poor customer service~a HUGE pet peeve of mine. There is one of two marks that determine a good business. They either have a passion 1. for their product (or) 2. to serve people. This marks a good business because one passion undoubtedly serves the purpose of the other. It is true that Metrolink has impeccably clean trains, but that sounds like a bare minimum requirement to me, not a passion. Designed w/out a traveler's needs in mind. Fail. If they truly cared about the people they served then they 1. would have a more consistent schedule (i.e. every two-three hours at least) 2. wouldn't make customers feel like they are cattle being transported from one place to another. Fail. I know everyone hates complaining. If you don't want to hear it then stop here, the above explains the gist of it. But if you want to know the reasons behind my conclusions, please read on. *DOWNTOWN RIVERSIDE STATION SPECIFICS: This station is neat and clean and has plenty of parking, but not designed or staffed properly to serve customers well. STRIKE 1~POOR SERVICE: Whenever I have been here it doesn't really seem like anyone is around to offer assistance to those who have questions or need help (doesn't seem that safe to me...where is the security guard?). WHEN the Metrolink employees are on duty, they appear that they do not want to be disturbed, sighing deeply if you even look their way. There aren't any signs or information on the ticket indicating what track your departure is at~ this can be troublesome, especially for first time travelers. STRIKE TWO~OVERPASS: If you arrive earlier then your train, walking up and over the overpass to Track 3 doesn't seem that bad. But if you are in a rush, climbing up 6 flights of stairs (down 6 more) or taking two elevators seems to take forever. Almost out, but not quite yet. *METROLINK SPECIFICS: STRIKE 1~POOR SCHEDULING: Whenever having to plan a trip out of this station it feels like I have to plan my entire day around it. Trains either leave incredibly early, late in the afternoon, or late in the evening~sometimes a person has to wait up an 1/2 hour + for a transfer. STRIKE 2~POORLY DESIGNED: Metrolink is not what I would consider traveler tested or approved. There is no where to store your baggage and most of the seating provided forces you to face another person. Good for groups, but a lot of the travelers are commuting to and from work solo and I don't know about you, but I most certainly would not want to be facing a stranger 4 hours a day, invading their space w/my feet or vis versa. The only things I like about the design is Metrolink provides a water fountain/cups for those who are thirsty and tables for those who need to use their laptops. STRIKE 2~ROUNDTRIP TICKETS: I bought a round trip ticket to LA Union Station, planning to return a couple of days later. After purchasing my ticket I skipped happily to the train looking forward to my business week in Pasadena, but then I realized that the ticket I just paid $15 expired that day and I wouldn't be able to use it for my return trip home. I thought it was no big deal and Metrolink would simply refund me...nope. After speaking with the conductor, 2 customer service specialists, and the woman at the counter, they all informed me that it was their policy not to give refunds. Three of these people told me that the tickets expiring on the same day was CLEARLY marked on the machine that I purchased my ticket from. Now, my fellow yelpers, look at my posted photos and tell me if you see that specific information provided...the proof is in the pudding and the answer is no. The other two people apologized, admitting that this is a common mistake made by other customers, but not able to refund me. If it is common, why hasn't Metrolink put policies in place to refund customers or make better signage to inform them? My only chance at not being jipped was to arrive early and beg that day's train conductor to allow me to get on the train. The conductor was extremely rude, making me explain myself and yes, I did have to beg. He let me board "out of kindness of his heart" obviously forgetting that I am the customer he has chosen to serve. What is wrong with these Metrolink people?!? If you don't like your job, get a different one. 3 strikes and you would think Metrolink would be out, but no. Why? Simply put they are practically the only travel option by train, particularly out of this station. I would write more complaints, but yelp has a 5000 characters limit~ you may just have to discover their bad customer service for yourselves, but I hope you can save yourself the headache.

The machine that stole my $40 dollars.
    OCVero D.

It's Monday of coarse the ticket machine just took $40 from me while I was buying my 7 day pass. Of coarse the machine suddenly shut down and didn't return my $40!! Now I get to call metrolink and see about getting my $40 back, not holding my breath! Sigh, hate Monday's and ticket machine that take my cash. :(

FREE tire pump and water tank refils in lot 30, I love it!!…read more It is very easy to become aggravated when things don't go your way, but my experience with TAPS has been decent and fair. I have gotten multiple tickets from TAPS for parking in a section too long. While some TAPS officers are dicks and still ticket people who go are only 5 minutes over the time limit, hey, they are just doing their job. UCR is actually pretty considerate in terms of parking for guests. For example, the paid parking spaces by Glen Mor or lot 4 allow you to add to the parking time limit through an app. Therefore, there should be no excuse when you get cited for going over the limit. TAPS has even repealed 1 or 2 of my citations because I sent them a polite email regarding my situation. The actual office staff has always been helpful to me. While some staff seem like they completely dread being there and show it in their conversation at the kiosk, they get the job done. If you are not dumb and actually follow the rules that the school set up, you will not have any issues with TAPS. You are not doing an act of "justice" to you or anyone else if you deliberately choose to not follow these rules because you don't agree with them. If you compared our situation to the parking situation and "TAPS" at other UCs, you will be way more appreciative of what our school offers.

The driver was nice, he was the same one from my first Megabus experience to San Jose! Anyways, I thought he'd stop at Barstow like the last driver but this was not the case. Not a big deal but good to note for future trips. Bus driver may or may not stop so grab some coffee or snacks ahead of time! This time I noticed there was a sign right as we exited the bus in Vegas that had instructions as to what to do to take the buses to the strip. The bus we took ($6 per person) dropped us off in front of Paris Hotel and we were staying at Flamingo so we had to walk a bit with our luggage. Personally I think I'll try to flag down a cab in the future but my friends didn't seem to mind doing that. On the way back, the driver stopped at Barstow but on the other side so we had an option of eating at Subway or grabbing snacks at the gas station. Good trip both ways except the girl sitting behind us was on the way back was on her phone a lot and talked about personal things we didn't need/want to hear very loudly!
