So on the way to the ocean we swung in here. I was prepared with some ashes in hand and was warmly welcomed by the owners. I was ugly crying and struggling to describe what I was looking for, but they were compassionate and helpful and let me have all the time I needed to make some decisions while simultaneously talking about how amazing Howie was. They helped me pick out the perfect pieces to create to honor him - I ended up with two glass votives and a sleeping glass cat. I got to choose the colors and sizes and styles. And they are beautiful. Honestly, the glass I received a couple weeks later was beyond my expectations. Little pieces of art that bring me joy and warmth whenever I see them or light a candle within. I couldn't have thought of a better way to keep his spirit alive than this, and I am so grateful for Opal Art Glass for taking the time to create something so perfect and meaningful to me. Now that said - they do ALL SORTS of other glass creations and art too (ornaments, bowls, yard art, figurines, pendants, etc) and they are all beautiful and unique and the prices are fair. Truly a wonderful place to stop in for some gifts or art if you're around. A lot of the store is rocks/minerals, but they have a lot of things that make great gifts, fancy chocolates included. During my growing up years, we spent a lot of time in Seaside during the summer and although it's changed it's still precious to be down there. The people in the store are most helpful. This last trip I was assisted by the owner of this store who was bringing in stock and, like always, the service is great. When I arrived home I realized I already had one of the prints I purchased. I'll give Oregon Gallery a call to find out what I can do. I do have a suggestion for the artist; why not give some thought to a Christmas scene and also a 4th of July scene? I do remember being in Seaside during the 60, 70, 80 decades and the 4th was a huge celebration. Hope to be back to Seaside soon.

One particular print stood out so much that we made a point to come back the next day despite our tight schedule. The lady in the store was very attentive and answered all my questions about the Dorla Rose framed print we eventually purchased. She carefully wrapped it in brown paper and protected the glass with cardboard and even placed hanging wire on the back. While she prepared our purchase, we browsed the gallery and found some gorgeous photographs of the Oregon coast, cute and kitschy dog posters, vintage biking prints, and quality handcrafted glass and ceramic souvenir items. I'm so glad we made time to come back so I can have a beautiful and peaceful reminder of our Seaside trip.

We return occasionally to Oregon, but never without visiting the amazing world of Mr. Steidel. Over the years our three children have delighted in taking home their own favorite print. On our last visit, we were deeply saddened by his recent passing. But a word of advice...the shop is still alive and spilling hope and colour, whimsy and genius. Do not miss the opportunity to give yourself the unique pleasure of viewing his inspiring work. Lastly, truly one of my greatest gifts to my children was introducing them to Bill and his miraculous world of fantasy. His art is 'Timeless'. We miss him!

Of course there were several images of the iconic Haystack Rock, many whimsical, others subtle, all gorgeous. Love that the artist offers greeting card versions of his art. This way, if you don't have room or can't afford a larger piece, you can still have some of his work. I often frame the cards and hang in collections. Or use the card as thank you notes for friends who love receiving a card they can keep and is a memento of a trip we enjoyed together. Unfortunately the recent day I was there, he as the able to accept credit card payments due to some glitch and I didn't have cash so I'll have to stop by next time I'm at the beach to buy some cards.
