I…read morewas devastated to say the least and I wanted something special made with some of his ashes that would bring me joy whenever I saw it - something I could have out all the time. So on the way to the ocean we swung in here. I was prepared with some ashes in hand and was warmly welcomed by the owners. I was ugly crying and struggling to describe what I was looking for, but they were compassionate and helpful and let me have all the time I needed to make some decisions while simultaneously talking about how amazing Howie was. They helped me pick out the perfect pieces to create to honor him - I ended up with two glass votives and a sleeping glass cat. I got to choose the colors and sizes and styles. And they are beautiful. Honestly, the glass I received a couple weeks later was beyond my expectations. Little pieces of art that bring me joy and warmth whenever I see them or light a candle within. I couldn't have thought of a better way to keep his spirit alive than this, and I am so grateful for Opal Art Glass for taking the time to create something so perfect and meaningful to me. Now that said - they do ALL SORTS of other glass creations and art too (ornaments, bowls, yard art, figurines, pendants, etc) and they are all beautiful and unique and the prices are fair. Truly a wonderful place to stop in for some gifts or art if you're around. What sets these guys a part from all the rest is they care - they care about their customers and care about the quality they deliver. This museum, housed in the  former "Our Saviors First Norwegian Lutheran Church," is operated by…read morevolunteers from the Chehalis Valley Historical Society. They purchased the church building in 1987 for $6000. Over its life, the building has served various church congregations and was once even an antique store. The main focus of the museum is the history of the local timber industry. Another large industry that once existed around Chehalis was dairy, however there are no longer any dairy operations operating in the area. The museum is not large but has many interesting items to view. Be sure to check-out the hand carved wooden "hobo art" frame made without any nails or glue. There is also a old fashioned electric hair perm machine that looks like it could have been used as a torture device. Read the attached story...it certainly did torture women's hair! The lower level of the 1906 church was originally used as a stable by the congregation during services. Today it is used for a rotating museum display as well as a meeting place for the historical society. This little museum is only open on weekends with limited hours. If you're in the area or passing through Montesano, be sure to stop by for a glimpse into the past.

Walk about 8 minutes on a newly paved ashfalt road along side the airplane hangers. Eventually you find the chiseled wooden sign inviting you in. A beautiful and pleasant board walk for about 15 minutes which loops back. No restrooms or water fountains. Well maintained walk with lots of birds singing and flying above you.

The Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge is a hidden harbor gem. Accessed by way of Bowerman Field…read more(a small airport in Hoquiam), look for the information kiosk at the end of the airport road. There is limited parking available. From there, follow the paved road past the row of hangers until you come to the sign for Sandpiper Trail. From this point, you will be on an elevated boardwalk trail. You will pass through and be able to view multiple habitats along the way: Estuaries, open salt water, saltmarsh and mudflats. Take caution during the Fall and Winter due to slippery conditions when wet leaves cover the boardwalk! This is a "rest stop" for thousands of migratory birds. Some traveling from as far south as Argentina and some traveling as far north as the Artic. There are four major staging areas for shorebirds in North America and this is one of them. While you'll find the greatest concentration of migratory birds during the Spring, the refuge is worth visiting year round. The trail is surrounded by mostly Alder, Cottonwood & Willows and the dense thickets provide ample refuge for the birds. This is a great trail for all ages and capabilities with several places to stop, rest on benches & take in the beauty of the refuge.
