Enjoyed a lovely 4 course meal here for my birthday and it was truly a 5 star restaurant experience! Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and very accommodating; from the kind gentleman who helped us arrange to be able to move to the other area and that brought us bread to the servers we had taking care of us. The place itself has a lowkey upscale vibe to it, very moody lighting and great views if you're by the window before the sun goes down - perfect for a date night!! We had bread and salad while we waiting to move to the other dining area. The bread was ridiculously good (and they just kept bringing it!!) also the strawberry lemonade was one of the best i've had in a long time. We both enjoyed a salad as well until we moved and had pastas - both of which were delicious, I had the gorgonzola pasta and he had the pork pasta. We even got dessert to-go; tiramisu and strawberry shortcake. Loved both, especially want to note that the biscuits they use for the shortcake are exactly what I want when I order a strawberry shortcake. My parents and I enjoyed dinner here the other day while visiting around downtown Hood River and it was lovely! The restaurant is located inside the Best Western hotel and has such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere! The views from the dining area are right on the water and each of the tables has little tea lights to further cozy up the ambiance, we loved it! Our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We ordered a few items to share but also loved the complimentary focaccia they bring to the table before the appetizers and entrees come out. This restaurant is lucky to have good food and nice views. The service at this place is B-A-D. We waited 30 minutes and looked for a waiter. There were plenty of them walking around, but nobody acknowledged our table. It was as if we sat under the invisible cloak. Finally, someone said that she would be with us when she had time. We didn't know if that meant a minute or an hour. The actual waitress who took our order turned out to be someone else. When we asked for what type of pasta was used for the kids meal, the waitress answered, "noodles". What? Thanks for the translation? Again, good food and beautiful location, but this is a place that will test your patience. read more

We were staying at the Best Western and this restaurant is part of the Hotel, it was our twin boys 9th birthday and this was a good close option. The restaurant itself is somewhat dated but the service and food make up for that, our hostess seated us at a table by the window which was perfect and great view of the Columbia River. Our server Kristine was very personable and helpful, she gave us some opinions on the food and was happy with what we had. They bring fresh sliced French breach with balsamic and a delicious olive oil for dipping, we also had the Calamari appetizer which was delicious, even our kids liked it. My wife and I had wine, I had the Pinot Noir and my wife had the sparkling Rose. Our daughter ordered the penne pasta with chicken and sausage, I ordered the Cioppino, my wife the fish & chips and our boys had a hamburger and grilled cheese. The food was definitely hot and large portions, my cioppino was definitely delicious, done a little different than I was used too, but extremely flavorful, my wife's fish and chips were giant and delicious, our daughter liked her pasta. Our boys food was large enough for adults, everything was delicious and service was excellent. Nice place and great views of the river. We also had desserts the chocolate mousse, lemon cheese cake and the s'mores. Prices are a little steep, but if you are staying at the Hotel they give you discount coupons. Great location to sit back and watch the gorge while have a meal. Located in the Best Western hotel it is open for anyone. There is a bar as well if you need to kill time while waiting. We had a 45 min wait on Sunday afternoon. They looked a little short staffed so just be ready. If you can make a reservation that might be better. The patio is where it's at but they have plenty of inside seating. The wait staff were extremely friendly and paid attention to our table. We were a party of 5 including a child. We had water and drink refills. We ordered a corned beef Rueben sandwich which I split with my partner along with a side of fries. The waiter brought out an extra plate without us asking. The sandwich was good but a little too cheesy and the cabbage was not kraut which would have been a nice touch. Fries were perfect. The waiter even gave us togo cups for our sodas. Dinner with a view. The terrace was lovely tonight with a slight breeze and great ambiance lighting. They don't take reservations but we were seated in about 40 minutes, just had a drink at the inside bar to wait for our table. The sage peach cocktail was delicious. The beer was unfortunately flat, so we will skip beer next visit. Once we were seated outside, we had a delicious dinner of pasta with local squash, tomato, smoked pork cheek, butter and chili flakes. Astoundingly delicious!!! My husband had a pork shank which was fall-off-the bone tender with pickled beets and beans. Wow, amazing too! We finished with a tiramisu and left satiated, satisfied and smiling! They use to be our favorite restaurant. It seems they are under new management. We went there for my wife's birthday last night and we mentioned it was her birthday and the waitress didn't even wish her a happy birthday. Her meal was not pleasant and certainly not with the charge. Mine was ok. My daughter's salad was good. We were not impressed. They view was great. The waitress started out ok but did not check on us until we were obviously done. So, we were disappointed and will not go out of our way to go there again. We use to dine there at least once or twice a week, but when they changed chefs and perhaps even management it went downhill. It's really too bad. I have given it several tries since all ending in disappointment. The last time my wife's meal was gross. I was surprised when she wanted to give it one last try on her birthday. Just remember that each meal of dinner service could be your last chance to impress a customer. I give them credit for the view and ambiance. read more

My family and I have been going to The Riverside for 30+ years -- it's always been a place we look forward to. In fact, I'm rating this as 5 stars overall because of the decades of amazing food and service. However, this past visit, especially on Father's Day, was disappointing in a way we weren't prepared for. When we arrived, we were told there'd be about a 25‑minute wait for outside seating. That was fine -- we were there for a special occasion and willing to wait. But despite seeing many empty tables, the three hostesses at the desk weren't seating anyone. Time kept passing with very little communication. Two parties ahead of us actually gave up and walked out after waiting well past their estimated wait times. After 45 minutes, we checked back in and were told, quite meekly, that all the servers were on a break and "needed their rest." That response was enough for us to find another spot in town. As someone who's worked as a hostess -- including several years at this very restaurant -- I know a busy holiday can be unpredictable. But this level of mismanagement at the front desk, especially with three employees just standing around, was unacceptable. It felt like they weren't making any real effort to move things along or make guests feel welcome. For a restaurant that has always been a favorite, this kind of experience was especially disappointing. An enjoyable dining experience is about more than just the food; it's about making people feel valued and cared for from the moment they walk in. I truly hope they can refocus on that going forward. read more

Great dining establishment connected to the hotel, Best Western. We ventured here for drinks one night, lunch the next day, and dinner the following evening. It was super convenient to have within walking distance of our room. The dinner experience was by far my favorite. We sat in the lounge area while watching the Olympics. My husband and I shared a flatbread for our appetizer. My entree was the bacon burger and it is by far one of the best burgers I've ever had. On tap they had our local favorite, double mountain IPA. We tried this place on a weekend late evening for dinner. Honestly, this place is exactly resembles it's name Riverside. It's beautiful. The ambiance is perfect. On a hot sunny day, it was very relaxing to sit beside water and have dinner. The service was really good. We wanted to order some ciders, unfortunately they were out of ciders for that day, so we just took some mocktails and then went ahead with dinner. We ordered: Beet Salad: One of the best salad I had. It was very refreshing. Flatbread: Apart from the one ordered, they usually give an extra flatbread for the table. Stuffed piquillo peppers: This was very interesting with quinoa stuffing but the sauce was very delicious. Funghi & Salsiccia: Both the pasta's were good but were on the creamier end. I'm not a fan of too much sauce in the pasta although we mentioned very clearly to reduce the sauce. The price point of this place is a little bit on the expensive side. After a day of sight seeing we didn't want to go out to dinner so we tried the restaurant at the Best Western we were staying at. The view of the river from the deck can't be beat! Service was fast and friendly. My shrimp scampi was very flavorful. The shrimp was cooked perfect and had lots of peppers and tomatoes. We really like this restaurant, it's one of our favorite restaurants in the country. Everything we ordered tastes great, every time we eat here. The salad is super fresh and they already mixed for you. Calamari is crispy and delicious. Go here for the river view not the food We have eaten here over 7 times firing the years and this time the food was mediocre and the service lacking We were seated outside with a very nice view of the river and then for 15 minutes, no menus no water no nothing finally a waitress who was assigned the tables beyond us stopped and asked if we've been helped and she took over. Their gluten free pasta was actually GOOD, I had the carbonara and it was just the right balance of cream and acid with enough pasta that I was full but not so much that I had to take some home. The pork loin with polenta and squash was succulent, perfectly seasoned and delicious. Wish I'd have had room for dessert! I had the hot to trot mule, which was a great mixed drink to kick things off. Service was quick, friendly and attentive; we were greeted and seated quickly and our server checked on us regularly. Dinner was another adventure. The item I ordered was not available but I wasn't told until after my menu was taken away. Finally got the lasagna. It was super salty. One person at our table ordered the cod. It was less than desirable. Overall- food was not worth the time we wasted at this place. He gave us excellent recommendations which lead us to trying these unique and flavorful dishes. The chicken was moist, yet crispy. The tomato soup was robust and herby, with extra virgin olive oil. The food was a miss. First, the "focaccia" they bring to the table to start wasn't focaccia at all and honestly was barely bread. It was so under proved/under baked that it was clearly raw. The minestrone also wasn't minestrone, as you can see the broth wasn't tomato based (which is crazy since that defines a minestrone soup) and was instead a heavy cream based soup. It wasn't refreshing and tasted like straight sausage. The gnocchi was really good, but the clams/Ciopinno were very bland and not worth the price tag at all. The restaurant itself is beautiful and our server was great. She clearly had a lot of tables at once and handled it very well. We waited only 5 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night. My boyfriend and I came this past Friday, and we were blown away by the beautiful views--watching the sunset over the Hood River Bridge was absolutely stunning. The food was just as impressive. We started with the focaccia bread and calamari as appetizers. For dinner, my boyfriend had the pork gnocchi while I went with the salmon. The portion sizes were perfect--not too heavy, just right. We especially loved the calamari--it had a nice twist with what seemed like fried pepperoncinis mixed in. Such a great touch! The only downside? The mosquitos. I just wanted to pass along my gratitude to the staff at Riverside- specifically Samantha, Luis, and Kelly. Last night as we were walking into the restaurant, we came upon a person suffering a life-threatening medical emergency in the parking lot. It was incredibly scary and heart-wrenching to be part of such a life-changing moment for them and their family. My husband and I stepped away later after the paramedics arrived, but we were in tears over what had just taken place. As we walked into the restaurant, we were unsure if we could even sit down to enjoy a meal. That's when the hostess, Samantha, gently took us to our table and gave me a hug and thanked me for what we did to help. Minutes later, Luis brought me a cup of chamomile tea to calm my nerves. Moments after that, Kelly introduced herself as our server and said she'd take care of us. She even brought me a box of tissues so I could dry my tears! Not only was our dinner absolutely INCREDIBLE (I am looking at you, eggplant parmesan), but Kelly was kind enough to give us updates through our meal on the person that suffered the emergency to help us feel reassured. She was also truly the most efficient and friendly server ever. I have the belief that working in the food industry is one of the hardest jobs a person can have. It's thankless at times, and I think patrons can be really picky and cranky about their food. The fact that Samantha, Luis, and Kelly have such difficult jobs and can still be empathetic and kind says a lot about them as people. All three of these employees deserve a raise! Delicious food (chilaquiles with homemade salsa; eggs benedict; veggie benedict; protein bowl). The menu offered several choices for both our gluten-free and vegetarian eaters. The salsa was some of the best I've ever eaten; the mixed greens salad was fresh and perfectly dressed; and the portions were generous. I drink my coffee black and it had a strong coffee flavor without acidity or bitterness. Perfect! While waiting for our table, I squeezed my hand in the heavy sliding door, so I asked the hostess for ice. She alerted another hostess who graciously--and quickly--delivered me a baggie full of ice. Our server, Mariah, was exceptional. We were immediately served water, coffee and tea and she left a stainless carafe of coffee for hot refills. She was knowledgeable about the menu, including gluten-free concerns (when she was unsure, she checked with the kitchen). She was attentive and checked back at all the right times. Our guests from San Diego commented on the reasonable prices and we all appreciated the comfortable chairs and private seating arrangement. We had a short wait, which gave us an opportunity to walk on the path near the waterfront. I cannot remember the last time I was 100% pleased after dining out, but today's breakfast hit all the marks: service, food, comfort, atmosphere and value. read more

Ordered Grilled NY Strip Steak - 14 oz, bearnaise butter, confit mushrooms, charred tomatoes, potatoes Dauphinoise. Steak was overcooked and the quality of the steak was NOT it! The potatoes were burnt from the bottom. Very disappointed in food. For desert I got Tiramisu - sponge cake soaked with espresso and Amaretto, layered with mascarpone cream and shaved chocolate. I love sweets but this dessert was so sweet I had to sip on water after each bite. It WAS delicious but TOO Sweet so be aware.
