Subject: Request for Immediate Resolution of Basement Waterproofing Failure and Resulting Damages…read more To Doug Secrest My name is Jason E. Charles. I am requesting a call back at your earliest convenience so that we can work through a matter of increasing concern regarding the waterproofing work performed on my property. Approximately five years ago, I contracted The Basement Guys to waterproof my basement. Shortly thereafter, I encountered an issue near the oil tank carrier -- an area that was not waterproofed during the initial service. Once the oil tank was moved, that area was subsequently waterproofed. For the next five years, the system appeared to function as expected. However, on June 19th of this year, following significant rainfall, the system began to leak. I contacted The Basement Guys using the phone number listed on my original contract. That call directed me to your company, Ohio Basement Authority. I spoke with a representative who located my information and scheduled a technician to visit the property, which I greatly appreciated. During the inspection, I showed the technician video evidence of water pouring into the basement during the rain. After reviewing the footage and inspecting the installation, the technician informed me that the system had been improperly installed and needed to be redone. He contacted your internal team and advised me that someone would reach out within 24 hours to schedule the repair. Approximately 45 minutes after the technician left my home, the basement wall collapsed. I immediately contacted the technician, who returned promptly and installed temporary supports. He reiterated that the collapse was caused by the improper installation of the original waterproofing system. In the days that followed, I spoke with Marc, who I understand to be the General Manager of your Twinsburg office. He sent out your concrete mason, Aaron, who provided a quote for repairing the wall. Later that day, Marc arrived and performed his own inspection. After cutting open the wall plastic and examining behind it, he concluded that no track system had been installed on 90% of the original basement area -- only around the oil tank, where work had been completed later. The lack of a track system, and the concrete pinching the plastic against the wall, prevented water from draining properly, effectively trapping it behind the walls. Over the years, my children had playfully pushed against the wall during rainstorms and noticed it moved like a waterbed -- not realizing that this indicated a serious issue. We never experienced any visible leaks until the event six weeks ago, which prompted me to contact your office. I have since consulted my own contractors, your technician, and your mason, Aaron. All parties have confirmed that the failure occurred due to hydrostatic pressure building behind the wall because the improperly installed system did not allow water to drain. This ultimately caused the wall to collapse. Over the past six weeks, I have continued to work with Marc. He has repeatedly promised, via text message, that your company would cover the cost of repairs and reimburse me for damages. I have retained all communications. My attorney has advised me that those text messages constitute a binding written agreement. As of today, those assurances have not been fulfilled, and Marc is now in breach of that contract. At this point, I am simply seeking a fair resolution and would prefer to resolve this matter amicably and outside of litigation. If, however, I do not receive a timely and appropriate response, I am fully prepared to move forward with the legal action that has already been initiated. Sincerely, Jason E. Charles

His quote was mid-range compared with the other two, but I chose him not so much because of price, but because of his responsiveness and communication. Getting someone to call back is half the fight it seems, I appreciated his efforts to respond to me. When it came time to actually install the septic system Gianni and his crew were efficient and got the job done without any problems or holdups. I have since had to reach out to him twice with questions and he has responded promptly both times. I highly recommend.

From day one he was super responsive, gave me a lot of good advice, he was very patient answering all my question and explaining things, he stayed right on schedule which was so important because I had a deadline to meet with my construction loan. He also worked so easily with my other contractors. He even gave me a great referral for the electrician I hired. Always showed up when he said he'd show up. When I saw that he was actually hands on doing the job and worked so hard to do a great job, I knew I could trust that it was being done right. He passed the required inspections with flying colors. He seriously helped save my sanity through the construction process since I had never done anything like that before. I'm so appreciative and grateful!!! Contractors that are reliable, trustworthy, responsive, are good at what they do, and are professional like Gianni are worth their weight in gold.

Ray and the crew at Imperial Waterproofing did outstanding work, and they rolled several separate…read moreprojects into one job at a very fair price. The main job was a full storm water drainage system. They installed commercial grade 4" PVC pipe tying in 10 downspouts and the sump pump discharge, repaired a bad downspout on the front right, and put clean out assemblies at the base of every downspout so the system is easy to access down the road. They trenched through the front flower bed, ran the line under the sidewalk, wrapped around the left side of the house, picked up 4 more downspouts plus the sump line, and tied into an existing 6" pipe they had located during the assessment. Then they handled the last 3 downspouts near the right rear, trenched past the driveway, and discharged everything out into the wooded area at the back of the property. No more standing water in my yard. While they were here they also graded the front yard and put down high quality topsoil, grass seed, and straw, and the new grass is coming in great. They removed dead trees and ground out the stumps, redid a gravel RV pad that a previous company botched, and built a gravel turnaround road around my backyard shed that works perfectly as an RV pull through. They also handled the city on the permitting side and pulled everything that was required, which took a lot of stress off my end. Ray is the owner of Imperial Waterproofing and brings 50 years of commercial and residential experience to the job, and it shows. He was straightforward from the first walkthrough, the crew worked hard and cleaned up after themselves, and the pricing for the whole package was more than fair. If you want it done right the first time, call Ray.

We needed our basement wall repaired and waterproofed. There was a large piece of information they lied about, the fact we had to figure out on our own about an electrician coming out to take off our electrical panel and putting it back. Apparently otherwise they were just going to leave the panel hanging from the ceiling. The funny thing (sad thing) is the salesman had said all of this would be taken care by their electrician. Their tune changed when we said we would go ahead and just do the wall repair until we could save up to waterproof to avoid financing. They were quick to take our almost $3000 deposit but since we were considered a "small job" we would basically be on call for the work. Not to mention we would have to have our electrician on call which, an electrician isn't always able to do nor is it fair as they have their own business and schedule to run. The owner was rude to us because we were requesting was better communication and know what was going on with a little notice. Seems like unless you have a job over $10,000 with them to do you are pretty much nothing to them as far as customer satisfaction goes. We went ahead and got another quote with very similar pricing from a reputable company and we are being treated a lot better. They set a date with us and explained everything clearly. So glad this worked out the way it did. Avoid this company if you can as there are way better out there that can do the same quality work but treat you better.
