The menu is a mix of Vietnamese (pho) amd Thai (pad thai). They had a lot of pho choices, but I went with shrimp fried rice, because I wanted a soupless lunch. I also got two spring rolls with ground chicken, pork, and shrimp. The spring rolls were amazing. Crispy without being greasy, and a sweet umami flavor. I don't like ground pork when it has that bonus ammonia flavor, but this ground pork was just sweet and tasty. The dipping sauce was maybe a bit of vinegar, a bit of fish sauce, but its slight tanginess complemented the spring rolls wonderfully. The fried rice came very quickly after the spring rolls were served. Yes, they used frozen vegetables. No, I don't care, because the rice and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Smoky wok hay and a hint of spice, and no clumped rice. There was basil on top which I tore up and mixed in, but there was already some basil there as part of the fry. So some basil notes in most of my bites. The place was super clean and bright, with a nice peaceful vibe augmented by the soft music playing. I rolled into Belleville on a late Saturday afternoon. After I had checked in to my hotel room, I…read morewanted to have dinner and drove over to Pho Viet. The parking scene here is odd. There was a huge truck blocking the entry way. I actually cycled around the block before he left. There are roughly five tight parking spots at the back of the restaurant. I ended up parking next door at a bicycle place that was closed and walked in. A woman said that there was only takeout on Saturdays. How interesting. I was fine with that. Thank goodness I had already checked into the hotel that I was staying at, so I could take my food back. I ordered the rare beef and beef pho noodle soup. It only comes in one size. I also got a small order of pork and vermicelli rolls, with dipping sauce. I sat at one of the tables to wait for my order. There is wifi, which was helpful as I uploaded some photos and checked my e-mail. I'd say that roughly ten minutes later, my order was complete. You can pay using cash, and debit and credit cards. I paid with a credit card. The woman was nice and it felt like a family-run business. She told me to be careful with my order, as the broth was hot. I drove back to my hotel with my goodies. The broth was seeping out of my bag by the time I got to my room. The lid had popped open. Ugh! It's a good thing that I was staying in a hotel room with a kitchenette. I managed to put my vermicelli rolls on a plate. I needed to use two soup bowls to hold all my pho. The one-size-only pho felt like a medium. The vermicelli rolls were amazing. The skin part of each roll was thin and crispy. The filling was flavourful and yummy. Frankly, I should have ordered more of these rolls and called it a meal. The dipping sauce sealed the deal. My pho was disappointing. It may have tasted better all in one huge bowl at the restaurant instead of doing takeout. I only got a few bean sprouts, and my sprig of mint looked sad, wilted, and dinky. I did not like the broth. I don't like ginger slivers. It had some. It dampened my spirits. The rare beef was tough. On a good note, the beef balls were yummy. The pho noodles were done right, too. I really wanted to love this place. I will come back again for the vermicelli rolls, but will steer clear of the pho. I will also try coming back when I can sit there and dine. (335)
