First off this was my first trip to this restaurant, and I've lived in the area for my entire life. We went there for a family members birthday dinner. It was their request to go here as it is a fav of theirs.
To start the restaurant decor is dated. It was very 1980's especially the bar area to the left of the main door. That said it was very clean and looks well kept and tidy. There are many different levels in the main dining room. These levels give off a different dimension typical of many restaurants in the area.
The restroom, mens specifically is dated and cramped. It could use a redesign as there is barely enough room for one child, much less a man to walk behind the first person standing at the urinal. Maybe not a big thing for some but just giving context to the overall feel.
I had a beer to start and I have to say it was not the coldest beer I have ever had. It needed to be much colder for my liking. My wife had wine and I could tell it was nice and chilled.
The food was alright. There was nothing with the flavour or the general quality if it. The taste was really good and could tell the food was of good quality. I would however like more of it for the cost. I had the pork Souvlaki meal with fries. There was a nice side of tzatziki sauce. Both were very flavourful and tender. I would say that I had maybe 6-7 pieces of meat and the typical amount of fries for like $17.99. I would have liked a toasted pita which is something that is typical of other restaurants in the area. For that price I got my choice of a side house salad or soup or juice. If I wanted a Caesar salad it was a $2.99 upgrade and a Greek salad upgrade $3.99. In my view the $17.99 should have included the Greek/Caesar upgrade and no additional cost should have been born on me. I would have also liked to have more meat, again that would be expected at this price point.
My wife had the chicken souvlaki was one dollar more and the same observations I made of the upgrades would remain true. We actually said when we got out to the car after we would have liked the pita, as we were both hungry not much long after leaving.
My kids both had Linguine Alfredo one with chicken and one without. Their meal was in the $18.99 plus $3.99 for the chicken add on. There was no way that this plate of food should have cost $18.99. There was no more than maybe $13.99 worth of food there and the $3.99 chicken add on was no where near that. My son who is very cognizant of cost opted to not get the chicken due to price alone. I didn't say anything to him but he knew that $22 was too much for that food. He did however decide to take the Caesar add on but I doubt he realized this was at a cost. All in all my daughters meal cost $27 including the Caeser salad. No way she had even close to that much food.
In the end our meal came to $117 including tax and tip for 4 people. This was not a $117 meal. Not even close. In my mind this was at best an $80 meal including the tax and tip. I get and expect that this is a business and as such they need to make money. I fully support that they have bills to pay but their margins need to be trimmed in hopes to have more people come out. It is a very big restaurant square footage wise and was no where near full for a Thursday night. There might have been 10 sets of guests, where they could easily accommodate 30-40.
Service was OK, not great and what I would expect from a meal that would eventually hit near $120. The staff was very friendly but again for this cost I expect more. To add context to what I am talking about after we received the cheques (there were 2 parties at the table) it took us at least 10 minutes to finish the transaction. In fact we had to get up and walk over to the servers station as it seemed like the waitress forgot we were there to take payment.
In the end, for this price I would have rather gone to Trenton's other more updated restaurant, Tomasso's. read more
